Is soon to be upon us, 80 years ago, An Invasion that nearly never happened, The weather put it off on the 5th of June, There was a gap in the weather on the 6th so it was on, 150,000 was the initial landing...Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, Britain, USA and Canada, The Atlantic Wall awaits them.
I watched last night "D-Day The Unheard Tapes" on iPlayer, 3 1 hour programmes of tapes from Soldiers that were there(with actors lip syncing the words)It's hard to put into words what I think of these Soldiers that put their lives on the line, 1000s of them never came back, 1000s of French Citizens lost their lives.
Not many left now as time moves on, Just the 1 Soldier from York.

I played in goal for a couple of seasons after having an arthroscopy(Cartilage)at Bretby hospital, The last position before the knackers yard, Played in Belgium(Easter tour)the goalkeeper in the Belgian Sunday team didn't show so I was asked to play for them against a team from Burton, We won 3-1 and I scored from a goal punt(with a good tail wind)
Got to a final at the Municipal Bowl and lost 4-1.Made a good few saves in my time...made some howlers too, Some very comical in my time 🙄, Best game was when we played Alfreton Blue Bell in the Cup on Chadd Park, I got the headlines in the "Green Un" for that game, They were a Prem side we were division 3, So a pasting was on the cards, We were 1-0 down after 5mins, Then I took a goal kick...one of my boot laces got caught in my studs when running to take a goal kick...I fell over, The pitch erupted in 😂 even the Ref 😔, It seemed to spur us on as we won 3-1, In the changing room after they all complained that we had Ringers in our team, We had 1, A good 35 year CH...Pete Jackson we sent for him as he lived on Meadow Lane in Chadd a 5min walk away 👌
And it's true...you have to be a little mad to be a keeper...but what great fun it was.

I see everyone is staying nice and patient. Willing to throw everything up in the air and take risks, just to see a premier league game at Pride Park. Unfortunately for them, I don't think Clowes will take chances with the Rams' existence and they'll just have to chill their bones until he believes he's found the right investment partner.

My recollection is of Charlie being clattered - a technical term meaning deliberately taken out - by Denis Smith who had been trying to get close to Charlie all evening without success until that point.
With Charlie’s injury went our very realistic hopes of the double that season such was his form and influence. A time when doing the double assured a club of footballing immortality so hard was it to achieve.
Charlie was a football genius and was playing that season at a level to match that description. Denis Smith struggled to match a description of footballer.

I did, Hartlepool away in the FA Cup around Oct/Nov time, Their pitch was worse than the BBG, Coop came off the pitch cleaner than when he ran out of their tunnel at the start of the game...an absolute turd of a player for DCFC 🙄

90 minutes? I played getting on half my career there before retiring at 53.
My best season? That would be 98/99. The team had a perfect record. Played 22, lost 22. We averaged 8 or 9 goals against every game. It could easily have been 20 a game, hence a good season. 8 or 9 a game good? IMO, yes. I'll explain...
I was 44 at the start of the season. The average age of the side was about 50. The back 4 were all good players but the left back, at 52, was the baby of the defence. The central defenders were 56 and 58 and the right back was 60. We were ahead come HT in a few games, level in some and, even when behind, there was usually just the one goal in it. Around the 65 to 70 minute mark, all 4 were done for. That was when the deluge started. Kept me on my toes but you can't stop 'em all although I did stop a lot. I would think a good 80%+ of our goals against came in the last 20 minutes of games. The opposition teams were all 20s to early 30 in age.

Much as I liked Lewis Dobbin as a player for us if he really, truly got a pay rise of £31k per week over and above anything he got with us then no wonder Everton, the PL, football generally in the UK is a financial shambles.
