kevinhectoring got a reaction from Chester40 in Wayne Rooney
Rooney was player manager, it was his job to keep fit for Cocu - which he didn’t do because he decided the time had come for him to regale us with his managerial acumen. The upshot was, Cocu spent 15 matches trying to work out where to play Rooney. (The correct answer was: nowhere, until we get a free kick)
Nor does it seem likely Rooney was taken on to increase the likelihood of a sale. The Rooney/32 deal was surely a last throw of the dice by MM in his uphill battle to get to the PL. He came close, but not as close as he did with his previous roll (Lampard).

I know what you say about hope. I'm a positive, hopeful kind of guy and I genuinely think think we'll be OK this season - not win it, and maybe not even make the play offs, but I think we'll struggle this side of Chrimbo, then, with new buyers, all the EFL cr4p done and dusted things will click into place and we'll have a really strong second half which will set the tone for next season. Whether that's positivism, or the mad thinking of a fantasist is open for debate!

To say funds have been lodged with EFl is quite a specific statement. Not at all Mystic Meg Nixon like. So maybe he IS itk. let’s hope he’s right and we’ll soon get an announcement, but surely will only be after EFl have signed off on the accounts. Must say that when the club said today that Rooney’s job is safe, I wondered whether it was MM or the next owner who had made the call. Don’t think WR is top of Mel’s Christmas card list

are 32 still sharing the cost of his princely salary ? If so, want to know what they think about it, and what their contractual rights are

Yes and several of Mel’s decision have in hindsight been poor but he came within a whisker of the promised land with the deck against him. Many others would have made worse decisions

Yes. Covid has prevented him selling the club and he keeps writing the cheques. If we had an owner who was not a ram we’d likely be in administration

IF Rooney goes this close to the season, surely we need someone lined up ready to come in? What happens to the triallists? They're here because Rooney wants to sign them, a new manager may not and that will set us back even further.

We should get sponsored by Horlicks which in Rooney's case is kind of two puns in one.

Rooney will be spending a great deal of his time and energy trying to save his marriage this week, when we needed all his focus on trying to help create a team to be competitive come next Saturday.
So disappointed in everything that is going on at the Club

Some people laughed at this. But last season he played what, less than a third of the season, and was arguably the reason we stayed up.

But we don’t know what happened. Accident, foolishness, machismo, malice? Got to assume the first until there’s evidence otherwise surely
