From Crewe, I presume using A50? should be ok-ish, but you may want to dive through Chellaston and into Derby that way.

M1 been shut half the day, Lorries all over the place on A38 at Kingsway. A50 having issues onto Raynesway as a result.

Bobby Gould RIP, scored the first goal I saw live in 1976 for Wolves v Ipswich.

We just need someone to announce that there will be a ticket shortage from noon tomorrow and the mongs will be queueing round the ground within 20 minutes.

Definitely do it if you can spare the cash, Rev is right, it's a great way to put money into the club as the margin on it for the club must be significant, and yet it's something for your dosh rather than for nothing
We're doing the logistics on doing our bit, the two of us, possibly one of the later October games

This is a very good idea. I've never done one of these and I've always wanted to give it a go.
Anyone else who has thought the same thing, well now is the time

I was at University in Bristol during that time so only got to go to a few home games and a few away that were "close by". Football was different in those days: the grounds were draughty, concrete, terraced, peeling paint, and smelled of boiled onions and cigarette smoke. The referees were crap but genuinely so; they didn't give a penalty because they honestly believed it wasn't hand ball, not like today when they don't give it because they are following EFL Section 3 sub-section 5 ("If a defending player controls the ball in the area, award a penalty {except if Derby County are the attacking side, in which case wave play-on in a very exaggerated fashion, then book the number 9 for protesting too vigorously, then after the game inform Mr Parry so that 3 more points can be deducted}). The game I do remember like it was yesterday was Plymouth away in the FA Cup (when it still meant something). It was notable for a lot of reasons but mostly Derby took 7,500 for what was an 8 hour round trip. Plymouth were up for it because, although we were 20th in Div 2, we had just a few years previously been League Champs, and we were a "big name".  Listen to the great Barry Davies's comments in the opening moments "7,500 Derby fans have made the long journey; These are the most understanding fans in football..." It was an amazing atmosphere. We were lucky to get a 0-0, and of course Plymouth only had to wait 4 days to get their win at Derby. The other notable thing was that Michael Foot was the Labour Party leader and at the game. He had as much chance of becoming PM as Argyle had of winning the cup. But the thing that sticks out is the passion of the Derby fans, who went everywhere and sang loudly even at drab 0-0 away at Orient. If we stick together again ("coalesce"), we can do it again...drop down...and then come back.

You would always know when the Football Special had arrived, in a matter of minutes, the terrace became rammed.  I think I must have gone to about 90% of the away games in those two seasons, fantastic times and a real feeling of pride following the team. I always managed to avoid the trouble which was possible even in those days if you were careful.

Arthur Cox ran straight to him after the game. Best goalkeeping display he had ever seen which is really something considering Arthur was on the bench in the 1973 FA Cup final when Jim Montgomergy kept Leeds at bay all afternoon.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that I got my facts wrong!  Thanks for the correction!  ?
Proof, if anyone doubts I have my facts wrong!  ?

Your mention of the final immediately reminded me of a very brave diving header from Andy Gray, for the only goal of the game.  Having now checked, I see I got that wrong too!  That must have been a different final?  Maybe even different opposition?
Now I see it, I do recall this goal, and recall laughing my tits off watching it live on telly!  Also forgot Emlyn was there by then too!  ?

I was there too with my dad who was a Wolves fan. It was actually the quarter final and we went to the semi-final at Molineux v Swindon. (Wolves beat forest in the final!) Had to go in the away end as the rest of the ground was packed (40k). I was only a boy and it was the most scared I have ever been at a game due to the crush of the crowd trying to get into the ground. Hillsborough was still ten years ahead, and I always think back to this game when it's talked about. It was lucky that such a disaster never happened earlier. Amazing to think this was not an all ticket game and we just decided to go on the day!

Wolves v Grimsby at the BBG.  League Cup Semi.  Replay at neutral ground.
Went with the obvious choice, as I already had a scarf in the Mariners colours!  ?
Great game, great atmosphere (I was on the popside, instead of my usual Ossie End), but as usual, my team for the evening lost, as they so often do!
Took a right proper kicking on the way out, all whilst being called all the fish-related names under the sun!
Never been keen on Wolves ever since!

Martin ‘Crazy like a Fool’ Kuhl’s debut  at home.
Absolutely ran the show and Arthur said he was the missing piece in his jigsaw of a very young side he’d put together.

Substituted on 85 minutes to a standing ovation.
One other was the lad on loan from Wolves, Lee, surname escapes me, who also had a great debut, scored a belter. Didn’t do much after.

Although he played in more important games, I remember Peter Shilton almost single handed keeping Newcastle out at St James Park.
