Plenty were when Waghorn had his little purple patch before getting injured.

Washington was always a risk as he was injured, but is Waghorn's injury record that bad? He could easily have had a similar impact as McGoldrick at this level if he'd stayed fit.

As we saw in Jan, the market we are shopping in isn't great, we can't get any better with our budget with those willing to come, hopefully there will be more wiggle room in the summer.

It’s not even about better in Jan for me.

I’d rather prime Theo Robinson up top tomorrow than force one of our wingers too have to do it.

Paul Warne is an inferior Gary Rowett.

And Gary Rowett’s team was a horrible watch, despite having top six Championship players.

Now imagine Warneball with a bottom eight Championship squad. It’s going to be grim, worse than what Sheffield Wednesday fans have endured this season. That is, of course, if we get promoted this season which I think we will.

    Complete poppycock.

Weds made a risky appointment and the players clearly didn’t play for him. For all of Warne’s faults he knows how to cultivate a good dressing room.

I imagine we’d be bottom 8, which is to be expected with our financial clout. But even the admin team would’ve stayed up.

Plus if things were as bad as you say. We’d just get rid and hopefully the new man would keep us up.

  3. Forget the January window. Personally I think it’s poor that we didn’t recruit within the month but acknowledge we seem to have been unlucky with a last minute change of heart.

But why haven’t we looked in to the free transfer market? Don’t give me Wag and Wash coming back, they’re still 2-3 weeks away and hardly top end quality.

Not saying Gayle or Joao are the messiahs but rather them up top than having to force NML up there.

Surprised there hasn’t been more comment on what he has said about our Business Plans, transfer strategies (pots etc) and transfer windows. Plus it seems absolutely clear that both David Clowes and Pearce both hold Paul Warne in the highest esteem in respect of his management and man management. Clear he is not going anywhere.

Thought the anti-Warne brigade would be all over this.

Not listened to it yet so i'm unable to pass comment. But if DC and SP are as besotted with Warne as you allude to then that's concerning.

I guess its finding the balance as an owner between knowing what goes on behind close doors and knowing maybe that PW is a good man thats genuinely giving his all. Against if all the fans decided to walk away because of his loyalty to PW (an exaggeration to make a point) there would be no football club.

I think even the staunchest of Warne fans would be tested if we failed to go up this season. As I've said in other threads and I'm not a psychic but next seasons LG1 looks disgusting to get out of. Do i think another summer of PW recruitment at this level would see us as an automatic promotion team next season? No

  5. Pure speculation at the moment and for me its too early.

Lets face it, even if our form completely nosedived i doubt DC would get rid before the end of the season.

If we do go up and its a big if at the moment then it would be incredibly harsh to sack Warne as despite his many flaws he has objectively completed his mission whether its been nice on the eye or not. With PW a nice guy and DC seemingly a nice guy I somewhat doubt we'd be this harsh upon promotion.

If we miss out on promotion this season then I think there's need to discuss PW future. Personally i'd like him gone under this proviso but once again DC backed him once before, maybe he'll back him again.

Ultimately none of us have a crystal ball and if Iain Dowie can get promoted from the championship as manager then anyone can. Lets worry about the championship if we get there.

  6. First half was typical Warne ball, looked out of ideas and one paced. But we went in to half time 1-0 courtesy of Max Bird whose turned in to prime Zidane since his move.

Second half two clinical finishes and then smart subs (albeit 5 mins too late) saw us see out the game with ease.

Win on Saturday and I’ll wager that either Pompey or Bolton will drop points.

    We signed anyone yet?

I'd be surprised if we do.

Wash and Waggy are allegedly back soon so makes no sense to add unless we think Gayle or Joao will drastically improve us.

Personally i'd happily bring another in but thats because i don't rate Wash or Waggy.

Maybe but he wanted to leave and so he did

@MadAmster I think Rowett has shown that counter attack football is his way.

I don’t blame him for signing Huddleston, Davies etc. Mel had a reputation for sacking quickly so why would GR plan for the future?

Anyway we digress, I think ultimately some fans will never warm to Warne even if he got us to the prem. He’s shown during his career to be a good Lg1 manager, but whether he’s a good fit for Derby is up for debate (which has been done over and over again).

  9. I think if we do go up Warne must be praised as its mission accomplished.

However Warneball is up there with the worst football I've seen at Derby. Although i will acknowledge that maybe myself and others are so down on PW as we probably expect to go up. Maybe if he had us 17th in the Championship next season playing Warneball me and others wouldn't be quite as critical.

Although maybe that last sentence is rubbish because half the forum couldn't stand Rowett (I could) and he had us top 6.

I do think sadly promotion or no promotion Warne's time here will never be looked upon too fondly. He seemed to have fans against him from the start and now i'd say at least 1/3 of the fan base either despise his football or want hm gone. Sad for everyone really.

  10. After 30 odd games it’s in no coincidence or luck we’re in the running for promotion. You don’t get there by fluking wins.

But we do seem to win in spite of ourselves as opposed to blowing teams away or crushing them with our sheer class.

Think ultimately our season will hinge on the results against the teams in the top 8. Win more than we lose = good chance of autos. Win a couple, lose a couple = play offs, lose them all = 7th place again?

Think we’ll churn out the same level of performance, think results depend on whether the opposition can match us in the dirty part of the game or not.

Judging by the reaction to this result, I think I’ll be all alone in the away end on Tuesday.

It’s disappointing to drop two points, but as we have seen that’s the norm for sides in our position. Why some people think we should be above it is beyond me.

Some people just fail to take any kind of perspective from the game. Look at the outpouring of anger after a draw. Can you imagine the reaction if we were getting hammered at home by Orient like Pompey were a few short weeks ago? Or getting whipped by Wycombe and conceding five like Peterborough today? I dread to think what it would be like if that was us.

Every game is a potential trip hazard at this stage and teams will do their very best to disrupt us which it sounds like Shrewsbury did very well, similar to Cheltenham before them.

Every team in the run in will look to do the same. Exeter on Tuesday will look to do a job on us too and it will be another tricky game to negotiate. We will do well to win.

Every team in the mix will have games where they contrive to take a poor result from a winnable game. This time it was us. We have 15 games to play and there will be highs and lows, twists and turns, good performances and bad, good results and bad, but we have to stick by the team.

Fair assessment but not sure about good performances to come. We’ve not had more than 5 all season.

  12. Thought we’d draw today and thought posh would lose. Bolton dropping points is a bonus, but Barnsley joining the autos race is a little annoying.

Didn’t watch the match so can only go off comments from you guys and twitter. But it is concerning that home games are no longer the banker they were in previous seasons. Seems even when we win at home it’s bloody hard work.

If we do go up whilst we’ll all be cockahoot. I wouldn’t describe this season as enjoyable.

  13. I imagine all forums are the same.

I'd actually say the reason why ours can be so infuriating at times is because of the bigger fan base. Passionate fans who want to see Derby back fighting at the top. Also the fact that this forum is run to a very high standard and doesn't look like its ran on a potato.

Surely that all depends on the circumstances of him not scoring another goal. Him missing chances and the club relying on him solely are different issues. It’s not his fault that we don’t have enough striker opinions but equally it’s not the clubs fault if good chances were arriving at his feet or head and he kept missing them.

I think you’re confusing the team not scoring enough goals (which may not be Collin’s fault if he’s chipping in his “share” but the team are over relying on him) and him not scoring enough goals or another goal (which may be down to him if they were good goal scoring opportunities and for which he could be criticised).

Im not saying he’s free from criticism but I do think he’s been unfairly critiqued at times this season.

Last year he underperformed and I had no hope that he would come good. However, this season he’s pulling his weight at the very least.

I guess it’s a forum and everyone’s entitled to post on who and what they like. But I was just surprised to see his ability under the microscope when we’ve got players who have contributed far less and seem to go under the radar.

Depends on what you mean by “drops a stinker”. I have said only this morning that we need to recognise all the hard work he puts in but hard work alone shouldn’t be enough to exclude any player from fair and reasonable criticism. If he continues to work hard but misses a load of sitters or gets himself needlessly sent off in a critical game them I don’t see why we shouldn’t discuss his performance before the season he is out.

Fair and reasonable criticism doesn’t mean we aren’t getting behind him. Same with any player.

Fair enough I take your point,  but ultimately if he doesn’t score another goal this season, is that his fault? Or the clubs for relying on him solely?

I think discussions around his season and his future and maybe a review of his time here will be a lot more fruitful. I was just surprised to see this topic growing in posts when it’s irrelevant whether people like him or not now.

  16. Doesn’t matter now if he drops a stinker for the rest of the season and we drop out the play offs. Providing he gives 100% we have no right to moan at him. Not Collo’s fault our hopes and dreams hang pretty much on his shoulders alone.

Got to get behind him and then come the end of the season, win, lose or draw we can discuss his performance this season and whether or not he deserves a new contract.

FWIW I think Collo is an average to good league 1 striker. Do I think we could’ve attracted better or had better alternatives? Yes. But that’s history now. Let’s back him and hope CBT and Adams can improve us enough to get us over the line.
