oldtimeram got a reaction from derbydaz22 in Is our budget any bigger than last year?
I think you are probably spot on. I am disappointed with the forward line links so far. Defensive wise, I agree with you that we should be a lot more solid at the back

When I came to Derby in 1967.I lived about 5 doors down with 4 other RR apprentices. The Landlady was the Mrs Sayer who owned the corner shop in the picture. Lovely lady.

Pretty sure it’s Pete Daniel on Toddy’s left.
Best guess on the other Dave Nish or Steve Powell

oldtimeram reacted to Geriatram in Have you already seen the best Derby County?
My first game as a Rams fan was in 1955 in the third division north I was 13. I bought my first season ticket in 1966 the last season of Tim Ward as manager and the first season of Kevin Hector(the King). I have never wavered in my love for Derby County, so in those 68 years I have seen the best and the worst of them. And I enjoyed last season as much as the first. And speaking of the King my wife and I have received a card from the King and Queen this morning on our 60th wedding anniversary. UTR.

"Have you already seen the best Derby County?"
Yes, 75-76 before Charlie George's shoulder injury. Even better than the two championship winning teams IMHO though I saw more matches that season so it may have skewed my view.
But Charlie George and Kevin Hector....wow.
Throw in McFarland, Todd, Gemmill, Rioch, Lee, Nish, Newton.... You won't beat that.

1968 Derby v Chelsea league cup replay. Went a goal down then scored three in the second half to win. 30 odd thousand in the BBG sounded more like. 90 thousand. Never heard Rams fans louder, before or since. This was the start of the glory years.

oldtimeram got a reaction from David Graham Brown in We've got the best pitch in League One
It's a good pitch, but not as good as the Baseball Ground pitch in the 1970s

Swindon fans raved about him when he was on loan there in League 1 a few years ago

He essentially has a lifetime ban from ever watching Derby home or away again, he’d be lynched if he ever attended another game.
All things aside, as a fan at core that must be hard to swallow.
On the flip, he nearly took the club away from all of us so I don’t exactly empathise with him.

oldtimeram reacted to Normanton Lad in Derby v Leicester 1939
Those of us who remember the old ground can see that apart from the floodlights that ground was the same in 1939 as it was in 1969 before they build the Ley Stand. I imagine they spent nothing on it except a few bob for paint and whitewash. Very little money went into the club. We had shopkeepers as directors rather than oligarchs. They didn't spend much but at least they kept us on an even keel.

oldtimeram reacted to Gerry Daly in Derby v Leicester 1939
Many of us went to the Baseball ground loads of times. I'm telling you that was a 30,000 plus crowd easily. Its packed! OK putting up the Ley stand raised the capacity a bit, but in those days there was standing on the lower tiers of both the Normanton and Osmaston ends. Also standing on the paddocks. There was no areas lost for segregation
Great stuff anyway, thanks for finding it and posting it Oldtimeram
