The Pope is handing out miracles to kids in Liverpool. Billy walks on stage and asks “Can you please help me with my hearing ?” The Pope says “Yes” then he puts his hands on Billy’s ears and prays, he removes his hands and says “How is your hearing now ...?” “Billy replies ”I don’t know, it’s not till next Wednesday.”

Derby College are going back in tomorrow. All students were asked to have covid tests on Friday and today.
In my lad's class of 13, only him and one other have taken tests. Absolute waste of time.
Wait for the inevitable spike.

Counselling works....
A desperate-looking woman stood poised on the edge of a high cliff about to jump off when a filthy tramp wandered by, stopped and said, “Look, since you’ll be dead in a few minutes, and it won't matter to you, how about a quickie before you go?"
She screamed, "NO! Bugger off you filthy old bar steward!”
He shrugged and turned away saying, “Okay, I’ll just go and wait at the bottom then."
She didn't jump.

What gets me is that we are told to stay home. Only go to work if you can't work at home. No holidays. No travelling unless absolutely essential. No visiting family. No driving to beauty spots. The list of places we can't go to is endless!
... and then they go and call this a bloody ROAD MAP!
Talk about rubbing it in our faces! ?

I agree with most of what you've put here. But the alternative way of looking at it, is that we've received £3m for 5 players that have achieved absolutely naff all in their playing career and never contributed anything of note to our first XI. Potential is only potential. There's a good chance that these players never reach their full perceived potential.

Good luck to the guy - but it's also just as likely he'll sink into football obscurity. Equally I think Wayne played a master stroke by bringing him into the first team and putting him in the shop window. It was clear he wasn't going to sign his contract - which had been on the table for several weeks, so he went to the highest bidder. As I said good luck to him, but the grass isn't always greener elsewhere is it....

Rams bench and first team football in 1-2 years or the A50/M6 for three hours a day?

It's not. The academy is a lot older than ours built in 1998. The head coach there is Marc Bridge-Wilkinson who played for us at the start of his career and then played many years at Port Vale, before coaching at Huddersfield, so I'm not seeing a marked improvement in coaching either. It's for the first team with some facilities for u23's who they expect to move to the first team soon. But there you go. No point arguing with you. I'll leave you to your opinion on it.

For the kid - you can look at Derby and see a pathway into the First team. We've shown that over the last few years.
Thing is - you can probably do the same at Liverpool (Trent, Williams, Jones of the top of my head). If he genuinely believes in himself enough, then he may go on and make it. I could see why you go to Liverpool over Chelsea or so on.
Still, you win some, you lose some and a kid who has not yet appeared for the first time, receiving a seven figure fee is probably a bonus for us. Lets be honest, in our P&L accounts, his book value is zero!

I agee with your point though not many go on to do much & getting an England cap says more about the state of the national team at times

And if he doesn't actually want to sign pro terms with us, what other option do we have?
I don't think £1 Million is bad business especially if there are plenty of additional fees linked.
How often do these star players at this age actually go on and become stars. 1 in 50 chance?
Go back ten years and find an England Under 21 team. I would guess most are not longer playing Prem Football.
Go back ten years and find an England Under 16 team and see how many are are playing Prem football? I bet none are.
In fact - here you go - this is from 2013 England under 16's - how many have become stars? I think 3 are in the Premiership today and none of them have played for England. Three quarters of them I don't even know.

Agree he should stay where he has the best chance of first team football as soon as possible but for him the allure of playing for a big club and a contract worth several thousand a week are most likely being offered to him already.
I'd also say - how many players like this actually go on and become future stars - 1 in 50? 1 in 100? Not that many go on to become, lets say an England International.
