I agree. Not living in Derby and having undertaken many sports events trips with my children and Uni open day visits to UK cities over the last few years, I agree its no worse than lots of others and much better than many. Most cities have good bits and bad bits and city centres generally are in decline matching the reduced income with increased working from home and people moving out during of post covid. Many cities with large soulless shopping centres have suffered in the areas outside of them. Huge mistake building them. Anyway around Derby is just lovely, its so central and the people are wonderful. If its so bad strange so many ex-players stay in the area.

Successive city councils have been guilty of gross incompetence for decades. Essentially, as a city it's become a good place.....to leave.

I'd say Derby is no worse than many other small cities.
The Museum of Making is an internationally award-winning museum.
The Pickford collection is world-renowned for being hosted in the city.
Our engineering past and present is awe-inspiring.
Festivals like Format and Feste attract thousands to the city.
Derbion, not to everyone's tastes, but is an excellent shopping destination.
Darley, Markeaton and Allestree parks all in walking distance, Peaks and Dales a short drive.
Yes, St Peters St had a drug problem, but has improved from 5-10yrs ago. It still needs help, lots of empty shops but no different to any other city.
Huge numbers of homes are being built in the city centre, the Goods Yard is being rebuilt, a new performance venue is imminent, as is a new business school.
It's not perfect, but efforts are being made to improve it and if you are linked to the city, it would be better served by not running it down all the time.
Articles like the Which one are lazy, reductive and usually written by sneering journalists who haven't left London in a decade. So yes, Derby isn't as easy to get around as the capital, and it doesn't have the same level of cultural facilities, perhaps investment in our region that matches what other regions receive would help.
And it's a far better place than Stoke at the very least!

I can't say I disagree with this article. I commented in a thread a while ago when people were saying PW couldn't attract players that moving to Derby city isn't the most attractive place for a young lad to move his life to.

Its such a shame our city is in major decline, can/will anything be done about it? It has a great football club, great people it deserves some investment.

I think if we better Forest's 19th place when they came up from league 1 in 2008/09, we'll have done OK.

That would be the bribed ref in our European Cup Semi final 1st leg v Juventus. All our players who were 1 booking from suspension got booked and couldn’t play the 2nd leg. Juventus allowed to get away with butchery as well. The 76 one a close second

If Warne remains in charge we will Yo-Yo between Championship and League One.
Oxford and Plymouth will probably struggle next season. I’m trying to see who else we can finish above, especially after QPR, Sheff Wed, Stoke, Swansea and Millwall all improved following managerial changes.

He just seemed to spend the whole fight on the back foot. Oddly, it made for a better match-up as there was no smothering going on until mid-fight. I fully agree that Fury was shocked by Usyk's power. I was too, indeed it struck me that both camps had somewhat emulated their opponents; Tyson trimmed to the max, seeking greater mobility and Usyk for the first time, seemed to carry the bulk of a big HW, even if he remains a deal shorter than some, perhaps having focussed on developing greater power a little more this time around?
Irrespective, I thought Usyk wanted it more and was prepared to take what Fury had to offer in order to get inside and land some shots of his own. I find him a deeply impressive individual, not only for his god-like natural ability, but his fortitude and sheer bloody-mindedness too. I love too that he's a throwback to the days of gentlemen pugilists, never really feeling the need to get involved in the Fury clan's crass antics. Usyk seems to be class personified inside and outside of the ring and I think the game needs that kind of champ right now.

That’s interesting isn’t it. And aresenal would've won the league.
Not to mention they wouldn’t be in the league in the first place without VAR.

I'm asking this genuinely - surely you must feel a bit weird about the fact that your owner makes Mel Morris look like Mother Theresa? I don't think I could ever support him if he owned Derby.

Conor did his best and his best was often pretty classy, but essentially playing a 2 in MF did him no favours, indeed, even Bird struggled in a league where you have to have legs in the middle of the park. Irrespective, I think it's telling that the lads themselves made him their skipper and it was noted that he stuck staunchly by the team even when effectively benched late on in the season. No bitching, no ego, just help the team get over the line. I respect that. He's a good egg and has shown himself to be a seriously talented footballer and I wish him well in his future career as a coach. I'd not be at all surprised to see him do rather well.

Roger Milford in the play off final v Fester not giving a blatant foul on Martin Taylor for their equaliser and letting Steve Walsh and co kick our players all over the park .
