Go back a bit more and you come to Billy Davies. Football wasn't great, we won loads of games without ever knowing quite how, and got promoted. Entertaining? Perhaps, sometimes, mostly nerve wracking and a bit head scratching though. Successful? 100%
I'd take that again this season.

Using pre-pandemic numbers this article states the Royal Family costs the taxpayer £82.4M.  Their contribution to the economy is £1.9Bn.  It also states how having the Royal Warrant on a product boosts income.  So if it comes down to money, I think they’re well worth it.

Then we could go onto other things like all the charities, etc they support.

The good news folks is that tomorrow and Sunday cricket is on, rugby is on, golf is on, F1 is on and so is practically every other sport. But football? They’ve even cancelled kids games in Sunday….

I'm not surprised by the decision taken by the EFL and the PL. Don't agree with it, but can understand it.

A good option, he lacks any decent experience so presumably will play regularly with the 23s and bench for the first team. A bit a like Dobbin, can offer pace into the mix, but a front four of NML, Barks, Sibley and Collins works for me, with Dobbin switching in when needed.
Unless he can set the world on fire quickly, and with a recall clause for united in January, I can’t see him getting a lot of league experience, more so used here and there.

I can’t even bother with an angry emoji. That rates as the worst post of the day.
A new striker, in a drought at a new club and he bags his opener. You write that ?

For the record .. it was a beautifully weighted ball from McGoldrick. He was 1 V 1 against an advancing goalie with a split second to make his decision. It was a sweet clean shot reversed against the goalies movement slotted neatly in the back of the net. No panic, no fluff, no snatched blast. Good finish end of story.

Do people who just quote stats really believe that David Lowe is Derby County's most successful manager as he has a 100% win record? I presume so.
Stats have a part to play in areas of the game, but much of it is pointless without context. XG being the most pointless of all.
That said, I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a run at 10, simply because no-one else is tearing it up in that position. But (despite what the stats say) it's hard to argue he's more effective than Barks or NML.

I knew the point of the statistic, but I am getting a bit fed up of statistics. You can bend them any way you wish. It’s like you now promoting Sibley because of an ‘assist’. Come on, it was a good pass to Hourihane, but hardly an assist given the nature of the goal. That goal was all about Hourihane’s touch, creating a yard of space and ultimately his shooting prowess. The truth is I don’t dislike Sibley, but if you discount one ‘wonder 90 minute performance’ two years ago, his number of goals and assists don’t look overly great, even if he was dribbling in all of them at close to 80% (which he rarely does).  I really can’t see why so many get carried away with thinking Sibley is the solution.

For me Knight is doing a very good job at right back. The way our midfield is structured, he'd have to replace Bird or Hourihane, or play as a 10? None of those seem viable. Or out wide, but we know from previous experience that doesn't work.
The team I thought played well against Shrewsbury, who are a perfectly decent League 1 side, organised, physical and stubborn. We were nine tenths of the way there.
Sorry, but I'm both happy and encouraged by the way we've started and wouldn't be changing the team at all.

Think someone posted a link to FourFourTwo magazine other day which predicted us to finish 12th.
Got my copy of When Saturday Comes yesterday & they too had us finishing 12th - that was voted for by a representative from all clubs in our division (they average out predicted finishing positions from everyone).
Not even considering a top two finish at present but suspect we might do better than 12th - going to take last season's lesson of 'no expectation' though to enjoy our football, the matchday experience & see where the season takes us.

    Hello friends,
I hope this thread finds you all well on this warm Sunday afternoon.
As a club, we were strong supporters of the "Save Derby County" campaign as we strongly believe no fan base or community should have to face losing their football team and we were overjoyed when our friends at Clowes UK came to the rescue. Clowes UK sponsor Matlock Town including our away strip so it's fantastic to all be part of the same football family.
To celebrate the continued links, The Proctor Cars Stadium will be hosting Derby County on Friday 29th July with a 7:45pm kick off. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebrations as the Gladiators will wear our Clowes UK away strip for the first time ever, the Clowes UK Cup will be up for grabs and they will be in attendance and we get to celebrate together the saving and hopefully thriving existence of the club you all love.
Tickets are available now via the following link - https://matlocktownfc.ktckts.com/event/mtl2223hpre3/matlock-town-v-derby-county-u-21s
We are hoping for 2300 sell out which we believe can be made possible by two fantastic fan bases. We were encouraged by Rams fans on Twitter to add a donation ticket option for those who want to help us out but are unable to attend for one reason or another.
As a community based non league team which doesn’t have a wealthy owner we rely solely on our community to fund the club whether through gate receipts, sponsorship or donations. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all who took the time to read this post and we hope to see you this coming Friday.

Seems to be a lot of bitterness on here. Came to us as a young lad with very high (unreasonably high you might argue) expectations after one good season at Ipswich. Went through some very tough personal times as he grew up with us, and yes he made some stupid decisions (don't we all in our mid 20s?) but I think he has handled himself very well since the Joiners incident and had matured last season, which was the best (imo) he had with us.
I think it's a shame he's leaving but wish him all the best.
