looking forward to seeing him play in anger. He’s developing fast physically and it will be interesting to see how he’s come on past few months. If he nails down a starting place this season it’ll be great news for us. But it remains to be seen …

I would’ve assumed the loan would’ve had some kind of obligation to buy at the end of it, once out from under the EFL’s watchful eye? Not sure, but obviously that’s the only way this would’ve worked.
Always thought it was unlikely, no surprise it hasn’t gone anywhere. Realistically, we need the recruitment team to pull a rabbit out of the hat for the striker position - we’re seemingly looking at former players of the club, the manager and those who are out contract/favour who have decent goal scoring records still available. We really need them to find something, perhaps a non-league player with potential or a league two player? A player from abroad, a player from an academy… something, anything.

Morgan Whittaker with a goal and an assist yesterday.
I hope we remember that when our next young player breaks through to our first team, and give them some support.

I’m typically positive in my outlook and want Warne to succeed, however my big concerns with him last season and yesterday remain his in-game management, and therefor I suppose his tactical nous. We were in the ascendancy following the equaliser, and we had tiring legs out there, I wanted to see changes to help us over the line. I accept the bench was lacking in attacking depth, but Elder, Wilson and Washington all looked fit enough when they did come on and Thompson was bright in his cameo. It all happened far too late.
That’s the big frustration for me, I think the tactics can work (as they were at times yesterday), but Warne needs to play his hand sooner in games.

Bird was at his best under Cocu, same as many of our young academy graduates. Funny that... a manager known for developing youngsters gets the best out of young players.

No you shouldnt. Thanks for sharing it. I assume most of us took it in the spirit meant and that is what this thread is about after all! I didnt doubt we would be looking at more dynamic players and loan targets but loans must be difficult when there are so often conditions re squad selection attached and probably harder to assess than players featuring in senior squads. 🤞

As I said in the original post I was fairly confident some would see the negatives with the limited info I had, which is partly why I hesitated to share it, but it is what it is. Some will hopefully see a bit of positivity in the clubs intent where lots are worried about the age of the players linked publicly, others such as yourself have your concerns. I’m not gonna dispute those, it’s not how I see it and it is how you see it, we’re each entitled to our opinions after all.

You read correct. It was/is a young striker at a current championship club who is due to go out on loan, but as yet nothing has happened in that regard from the club in question. I haven’t been given a name, I do of course know which club my mate works for but won’t be saying openly on here at the moment.
I shared the info not because of the specific link to a player but more around the idea that we are (apparently) looking to make some deals for younger players too.

I get the impression that the amount David Clowes is prepared to stump up out of his own pocket is comfortably within any remaining constraints that have been mutually agreed with The EFL.
Personally, I have absolutely no qualms about David Clowes setting himself a budget limit, and keeping to it/within it.  In fact, I'm a big fan of such a sensible approach, and ergo, am a big fan of the guy that saved us.

Yes, thought the crowd was very subdued yesterday, from the first whistle there seemed an air of expectancy that we would just roll over Wigan, must do better boys and girls our club needs us

Its been mentioned by PW that we have a budget agreed with EFL, before Knight sale I think. But whether there were always limits to that budget from EFL or if they just sign off on the club's budget as long as they think reasonable no idea.
If the spend constraints are due to DC who has already saved the club from armageddon wishing not to
-further risk the money his family have made or the businesses in which the family has employed people
    - or manage the club sustainably after where we got to under Morris
then I am not worried at all. I think we will probably never know just how badly Mel left everything at the club and it is going to be a slow build. There obviously needed to be reinvestment in the decimated academy as well as the first team which presumably all comes from the same pot.

I am not shooting you down saying the above but just I do trust DC is doing things correctly for the long term future of the club. Having said that I do think its important we get out of this division ASAP as if/when crowds start to drop off longer term we will be more constrained

To be fair would you want your prob last contract to be at Rotherham - sorry nothing against Rotherham but surely the getting derby promoted, or proving those lovely derby fans wrong, or being besties with ryan reynolds, or helping poor beleaguered whoever back are more appealing narratives? If he comes to us he will so want to rub it in the faces of those who hate him - what motivation to score/assist and celebrate! I hope

Bird will only look good if the players in front of him make intelligent runs. If they stare blankly at him while heavily marked he’s going to look ordinary.
Any numpty can knock it out to the wings.
Warne doesn’t seem to appreciate that knocking it wide and getting the big centre forward to bundle it in went out in about 1973.
We have built a club of good young footballers. All we needed was one or two tougher characters to solve the soft underbelly we sometimes showed in the past.
We seem to have thrown the baby out with the bath water.
Too many players slow in thought and deed.
Plan A should be on the deck. Plan B can be route one.
