The EFL don't have a dispassionate justification, Ken Tram.
They exist in a spiteful, insular parallel universe where objection to their vapid policies and initiatives, like the feeble broadcasting rights deal, or intervention in the imbalance of 'parachute payments' is admonished and suppressed in a harsh, lengthy and painless fashion.
Derby are major criminals! Their plans and projection must be disrupted and their competitiveness damaged for years.
However, in the other irregular football universe, six self-appointed 'elite' Premier League clubs join a clandestine mutiny for a European Super League which would wreck football pyramids around Europe, have to back down in disgrace - but 'endure' a rapid judgement within weeks being required to pay the equivalent of a £3.7 million donation apiece to football funding.
They suffered no points deduction, no embargoes, no banishments from cup or European competitions, no relegations.
The 'elite six' can still spend freely - indeed, Manchester Utd spent £73 million a few days ago on one player, Sancho, and are mooted to be spending another £80 million+ on two more players. The normal order of things continues.
Well done, EFL, you've really got your house in order.

Outstanding post @Woodypecker the point regarding the “Big Six” makes this long winded drawn out witch hunt ever more indigestible.

The most straight forward answer is Derby are being made an example of. The EFL are coming down harshly on any transgressing of their financial rules. They see this as benefitting the league competition and being fair to all their member clubs. The fact that we're guilty of very little is of no interest to them when compared against the pressure they are getting from certain other club owners.

Stearman and Jagielka might be training with the club, they might even sign up as squad players, who knows. There's no transfer fee and they're not going to demand massive wages are they at their ages? If they did, we wouldn't be able to sign them anyway.
But, you know, we need bodies in the CB position. We also need experience in the CB position.
Who better than Stearman, Jagielka and Davies to teach our U23 CB's about that position?

Regarding Mel and your assertion that he was responsible for the accounts submitted to the EFL, I am sure he would be the first to admit he is not an accountant and that it was a job best left to the CFO at the time Mr Pearce obviously.
Here is what Mel said earlier this year in February " I’ve got a few other health issues as well. I’ve had a few bits chopped off here and there, from my bowel and my back, that haven’t been helpful.’ " so my comments were not supposition but based on a document I thought very credible the selling agent was a French financial house and as such perfect English not likely, and an interview with Mel available in the media.
FWIW they do not remove part of your bowel unless it is serious and is usually accompanied by Chemo and I speak from some great experience with a close friend who had such a diagnosis and the chemo associated with this particular disease is very brutal. Also the need to remove part of the bowel would be stage 2 which almost always is accompanied by Chemo.

I missed the word overall in front of running.
My post was in support of Mel Morris who according to many document leaks on the internet had very serious health issues over the past 12 months including in one document which was headed as an "offer for sale memorandum" which contained the statement that he was suffering from cancer earlier last year and undergoing treatment, I therefore get angry and take exception to assertions that he has gone missing has lost interest and is lacking in communication with a very hostile subset of supporters, all of whom appear to pile on without quoting anything other than their opinions which invariably are suppositions about conjecture.
Give the guy a break.

So when we re-submit our accounts to the EFL, if they're not compliant to FFP, we face a points deduction.
Until we submit the accounts, we're under a transfer embargo.
After struggling, and avoiding the drop by the narrowest of margins, with the squad we had last season, we've since lost players out of contract along with the loanees.
Our star player is out injured. Our bright young things have regressed.
We have a threadbare squad and, judging by those on trial, we're drinking at the last dregs saloon. Well we would be but we can't even afford a round there.
There's no real sign of an imminent takeover and I believe Mel will keep us ticking over but, understandably, he won't do more than that any longer.
So what chance do we have this season?
This of all seasons, the 50th anniversary of our first top division championship.

I have mixed feelings about this season. I am dreading the final chapters of EFL’s vendetta aimed entirely at getting us a points deduction. It sickens my fair play gut .. they, for whatever motive, want to kick us while we are on the floor. It’s toxic. We have gained no advantage from anything we may or may not have done. The almost visible hatred that emanates from that organisation is palpable.
That said, we are where we are, with a thread bare squad but some talented young players mixed with some old soldiers. There’s a kind of spirit that can come from that. Just maybe some of the young ones really can step up. Maybe Wayne is genuinely learning on the job and will find some magic. I don’t think for a minute we are looking at play offs but I think we might just find something that stops us being whipping boys. You know what … adversity can just provide the spark that makes a team. Jeez and with the restrictions being dropped .. I might just use my flexible friend for my season ticket .. I’ll tell you what, whoever is in our team, if they turn up and fight then I am right behind them.

Having worked for one of Big 4 and now a smaller firm you are correct that top 45 is not top 5 and I know which is more thorough. Accountancy websites awash with cases against top 4 firms doing bad jobs. Would be interested in cases or disciplinary hearings (as yet!) against the firm we used?

I think it means its more a good basis to start from, clearly holding the academy players in high regard.
Good to see about the loans owed situation, players are fully paid & the accounts delay with Companies House had been agreed.
Just nice to have abit of an update and clarification.

Depending on where you look, it seems there are well over 30,000 accountancy firms in the UK so, to be ranked in the top 50 (which they are based on fee income) means that, whilst they may not be Deloitte or EY, they are one of the biggest. So, I suggest they do possess a reasonable amount of credibility.
