So when we re-submit our accounts to the EFL, if they're not compliant to FFP, we face a points deduction.

Until we submit the accounts, we're under a transfer embargo.

After struggling, and avoiding the drop by the narrowest of margins, with the squad we had last season, we've since lost players out of contract along with the loanees.

Our star player is out injured. Our bright young things have regressed.

We have a threadbare squad and, judging by those on trial, we're drinking at the last dregs saloon. Well we would be but we can't even afford a round there.

There's no real sign of an imminent takeover and I believe Mel will keep us ticking over but, understandably, he won't do more than that any longer.

So what chance do we have this season?

This of all seasons, the 50th anniversary of our first top division championship.

Where we are now with an even weaker  squad from last season whom fail to score goals and fail to keep clean sheets. With Rooney plus the coaching staff who so far have been appalling under two managers still in charge. With the Dads army recruits and misfits currently training with us highlighting our transfer capabilities for this season, we’re down.

As it stands now? With no points deduction?

I would say no, but it's marginal for me, bottom 5 definitely.

With a points deduction? Yes, absolutely if it's 6.

With no points deduction, a takeover and some players Rooney wants, I see mid-table.

Agree with this.

nothing more I want to be than positive, but you just have to look at the facts in front of us and be realistic I’m afraid.

New owner, new management team 5/6 quality new players and we’re on the up. Stay as we are, I’ll be looking forward to following the Rams on a league one tour in 22/23

If Bielik comes back and can stay fit we might be alright, if we can also find someone who can score goals....

the problem with Bielik is that he's due back in December and after such a long time out of the game he will take a while to be 100% match ready, so end of January.

The season for Derby could be over by January if Rooney doesn't transfor into a match winning manager between now and then.

Older players released on frees from other championship clubs were released on frees for a reason.

Rooney who has more than 100 million can walk away from the club at any time, he threatened to do so if we were relegated.

I dont see Rooney in a back to the wall moment, accomplishing more than last season.

Derby need a manager who is a specialist at getting results from a team that's weaker than last season.

So no transfers and a points deduction, with the teams in this division this season, top half is incredibly unlikely.

Bottom 5 and another dog fight if Derby don't get no owners to turn the club around.

Derby are still capable of getting a points deduction from the efl when the accounts are released.

When is Mel going to walk away, I dont see him continuing to pay salaries indefinitely.

Do Derby need to centre backs the wrong side of 35, Davies leaves the club and jagielka replaces him but at nearly 40 how does that help Derby.

Last season we got to watch Rooney as a player, he didn't look the player he once was.

If Jagielka is the best Derby can manage for free agents, we have a problem.

The best younger free agents are going else where.

That might be to do with the efl transfer embargo that states we can sign free agents if the salaries are reasonable.

Mel is unlikely to pay for transfers if the embargo is lifted.

Only new owners can save the club.

Voted the only way is up. I watched the Palace documentary on Amazon (would recommend it) filmed when they were in serious trouble. They started a season with something like 8 players under contract (something like that), one of which was none other than Claude Davis(that's got to be worse than 10 points deduction). They survived. New start of the season, new hope

I do agree, my comment was purely tongue in cheek

If we can keep at least mid-table to the next window then I think Rooney will be able to convince 'better/younger' players to come join us. That is if it's too short a time to do that this window. "We are the Derby, the famous Derby" after all!
