ck- reacted to RadioactiveWaste in Paul Warne
If he does, hi Paul, you should really stop reading the forum, there's good reasons why posters on here are from just about every walk of life except for successful careers in professional football.

Would be a statement of intent.
Some good players from Iceland and fees are notoriously low, hence why mums go there.

Players back then could play football no matter what age even into their 40s but players these days after 30 they fall apart on the pitch they don't put in the work but the kind of players back then could run circles around our team today

If he’s been injured and injury prone they we surely must be interested….

ck- reacted to MadAmster in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
PW with Rotherham in the SBC.
1st time, relegated playing crap football
2nd time, same again
3rd time he had put together a better side playing decent football (source Rotherham forums at the time we poached him). He had them 8th after 9 games. All the sides above then had played 10. Win that game in hand and they would have gone 5th. He came to us and Rotherham ended up 19th. Just maybe, the 1st 2 seasons were more down to RUFC's inability to attract the right players? Both the results and the style were better 3rd time around...
IMO, forget anything he did at Rotherham. Derby is a totally different kettle of fish. Let's see what he can put together over the summer.

ck- reacted to Simmo’s left foot in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
I think the key to becoming established and aspiring to be pushing for a top six is keeping the group as a tight nit bunch, which was very obvious and contributed a lot to us getting over the line to promotion. More of that and astute signings is the way forward.

I was a vocal critic of Bradley and was apoplectic when he got sent off.
However, when you make a mistake it’s how you react and he came back stronger.
I don’t think he’s the player we hoped he would be but I think we need faster and younger support for Cashin, Nelson and Nyambe.
If he goes, he goes with my best wishes.

ck- reacted to CapeTownRams in Lionel Pickering
One thing that consistently irritates me is how little fans talk of Lionel Pickering. Folks often talk about the great Jim Smith years (really our last glorious period) but they would never have happened without Lionel.
We also forget that Pride Park was also Lionel’s dream and vision - and he paid a good chunk of his own money to make it happen. In fact one really has to wonder why it wasn’t and isn’t called the Lionel Pickering Stadium.
Lionel in many ways reminds me of David Clowes albeit the latter is a more business-headed person. Lionel was a lovely man- maybe a bit gullible when he listened to everyone throwing their own advice and opinion in his ear at the pub……but a real Rams man.
Crikey, if there was one person who deserves a statue at Pride Park then it’s him.
(I would also like David Clowes to have the Club build a museum at the ground).

Joe White at Newcastle would fit the bill as a talented youngster who needs game time.
21yo attacking midfielder with a great pass on him.
nb I missed the p off pass first time round and am really glad I didn’t press send 😊

I disagree. There was a home game mid season and Fozzy was in a race for the ball with a younger attacker, can’t remember who, no half yard, right foot advantage. He won it, (just !)
Also .. watch how he heads a ball .. one of the few who can direct a defensive header to a white shirt. He’s also cute enough to play the line ball inside or outside to a runner he has actually seen. No he isn’t the dynamic striding forward man that he was 10 years ago but he is an able and intelligent footballer with another season in him. Not retrograde .. intelligent use of a loyal and experienced player.

I understand there is a facility to add additional members to the squad during the summer.

Looking at just the league table its been an amazing year by any reckoning. Amassing 92 points, securing a record number of away wins etc. Pompey had to come up with something pretty special to beat that. And yet, it seems weird how there is still a feeling that there were so many unnecessary points that we seemed to drop. Obviously, that's just the way it goes and you can't win every game but in amongst the excellent wins, there were definitely a decent number of soft points dropped.
Just glancing down the results list - failure to see a poor Cambridge off at home, conceding a gutting late equaliser vs Pompey, really poor official decisions at Bolton, drawing at Cheltenham who hadn't scored in 12 games, conceding a 98th minute penalty equaliser against bloody Wycombe, the late collapse at home against Peterborough from leading the game at 84 mins to losing it, chucking away a lead at home to Charlton to leave empty handed, conceding 87th minute equaliser against Shrewsbury at home. You then realise how many points we could have actually ended up with - well North of 100 which would have been truly remarkable by any means !! 😃
Sure, there were times when I'd loved to have seen a bit more swagger and flair but by any standards, the relentless points accumulation was hugely impressive, and ultimately it simply broke the spirit of the chasing pack. PW and the lads earned that.

I don't think it's predictable he left for those reasons, but it is a possibility.
I agree it's slightly sad.

It has - but only because it’s given an insight into how great the group of players are. Celebrating with the fans from the final whistle all the way through pubs in town. Genuinely nice blokes happy for themselves, the club and the city.
Compare with other stuff I saw this week with Leicester players celebrating going up by gathering in the safety of one of their mansions and having a few drinks around the kitchen island. Soulless and removed from the fans.
Really shows what Warne has built and hopefully he can keep the spirit even through squad changes over summer.

I would like to see a minor tournament played by pro teams without any offside, just to see how it panned out. It might be a total disaster, but I would like to see how it worked. The argument against is that it would encourage goal hangers, but it's up to the opposition to mark them. It would certainly spread out play and would put a stop to one of the most contentious issues in football.
Would the benefits outweigh the negatives?
On a side note, 5, 6 and 7 a-side games are played without offside and fun to play in and to watch, with far fewer disputes.

You can thank me later, but there is a young midfielder at Bristol City that looks decent - not made a first team appearance for them yet, so could get him on the cheap.
I’ll do some research and see if I can get his name…..

ck- reacted to DarkFruitsRam7 in Wildsmith
Haha, I love Fozzy but I wouldn't put him in the upper echelons of League One centre halves.
I think Wildsmith is a good goalkeeper, and we could do a lot worse than him. I also think we could do better if we wanted, but I'm not sure if I'd make it a priority. Whatever happens, he'll always be a Derby hero.

Honestly guys, that last 20 mins was horrendous, my poor heart haha
One positive I can take from it is that we got the job done despite never really playing well in either playoff game (partly because barnsley arent great) and also that I think Oxford suits us better than Posh (and tbh as much as I'm desperate to win, if we do lose, I'd rather lose to Oxford than Darren Ferguson).
Fingers crossed we turn up and get it done. Our last 2 trips to Wembley are Bolton 4-0 Plymouth last season and Bolton 0-5 Stoke in the FA Cup semis about a decade ago so could literally be anything based on our history.
Got some Rams fan mates who were at your QPR Wembley trip that I sympathised with and was gutted for at the time so I hope more than anything we don't experience that kind of pain and we get a good day out, the boys give it their all and make us proud

A bit niche, but I have always had a soft spot for “He’s round, he’s round, he’s round he’s round he’s round, Steve Round”, which I remember ringing out from the away terraces at Barnsley, many moons ago.
