I guess someone who has been promoted 3 times from this league doesn’t know how to get out of it. We are where we are because of people’s expectations and demands that we match the glory days of the 70’s. Buying player after player for inflated amounts to satisfy chairmen, fans and reach those expectations.

The news is we are starting again rebuilding the Club from its grass roots and it does take time. In 1967 when Brian Clough first came here, moving from 4th Diivision Hartlepools to 2nd Division Derby, his first season was underwhelming, we finished in a lower position ,18th, than the previous season. We didn’t start the next season that well and things only improved after we signed Willie Carlin. Not saying for a moment that Paul Warne is in Brian Clough’s league, but he needs and deserves time to achieve success.

I don't think anyone's demanded that to be honest. Most are clued up enough to realise that won't happen again short of a multi billionaire deciding Derby is going to be his new toy for 10 years.

We haven't won a league title since the 70's  but have had a competitive midtable top flight team on a few occasions that have been denied and occasionally dallied with a European place.

That should be a realistic aim.

It's interesting hearing Israeli press conferences where they seem to be telling the lie that dead Palestinians are collateral damage for a greater cause. I'd like to see what the region looks like with Hamas gone. Is it Netenyahu and Abbas running through wheat fields together surrounded by Jewish and Muslim children? Seriously, Hamas gone. Then what?

So to be clear, Hamas killing 1,400 Jews in an area under constant surveillance and heavy security near Gaza Strip, carried out this attack because they are evil?

Some might suggest that if we are talking about people like they're pawns on a chessboard that Hamas, who can't possibly defeat IDF in combat, resort to guerilla warfare and/or terrorism (from Roman civil war to Suffragettes, we've seen forcing change has happened this way) knew Israel would respond like this. So why did they do it?

Some might suggest they did it knowing all this would play out. That with the power of social media and off the back of the Ukraine war people would be able to see beyond their limited news sources. That there would maybe be international pressure on Israel.

I mean why else kill 1400 civilians? It doesn't put even a dent in Israel's power. So maybe the 1400 were "collateral damage"

However Israel's collateral damage makes less sense?

    Will this eradicate Hamas? Nope.

Will this bring back hostages? If Hamas are just pure evil then those hostages will be dead either by knife or bomb. So no.

One could argue even further that Hamas took hostages to release them during this period to perhaps improve public perception. Especially as some of the hostages are being treated fairly well. Even calling Hamas militants friendly and kind.

Imagine if what Hamas did on October 7th actually had more of a noble cause than what Israel are doing now. "Collateral damage" they say? Ok let's go with that logic

What it will do is drive thousands of people who wouldn't have thought about it before, straight towards the very organisation that is supposedly being eradicated and they'll be even more hard line and pissed off.  A solution to being made to feel worthless and inadequate is to head straight to the strongest point of support on offer whatever that may be.  It's always been the same way.

    Warning, fruitful language.

2 games in.  I keep hearing about how terrible our fans are for some shouting sat in the middle of League 1.  We have a lot more patience than most as I always knew from 40 years on the DCFC rollercoaster.

What did Mendez-Laing do after the goal? I was busy celebrating so must have missed it.

Which on?.  If it was the one before Tuesday I'll have to dig out the Sepia film from Pathe news.  If it was the latest one he made some weird hand movement to take the piss out of some fans who paid too watch him play. Classy.

Couldn't tell you, surprised they are still open. When was the last time you heard anyone say I fancy a Burger King?

Sauce in the burgers is a lot better than McDonalds.  Stays hot for longer as well.  Bit like betamax was better quality but got beaten out the market by a lower quality rival with more promotion cash.

McDonalds is crap nowadays unless your drunk.

I pulled the comments from an Insta footy account showing the clip of Hourihane being abused by our fans, in no particular order:-

    Embarrassing from the fans

Why do Derby demand so highly of their players when they've clearly found their level in League 1

Too many fans think you win football matches because of the size of your club and fanbase. Shrewsbury are a good league 1 side expecting to just turn up and roll them over is disrespectful to the Shrews players

Having a go at the wrong person to be honest he didn't play amazingly well but neither did anyone else. If anyone should reassure the fans it should be Warne.

I suppose they've never had a bad day at the office either disgusting behaviour!

Feel sorry for Hourihane he shouldn't be answering for this should be Warne answering why we can't break down average teams.

Most self entitled fans on the face of the earth.

    Derby fans so embarrassing

These fans live on past glories and think they have a god given right to success

At least 5 of them will be from the missing links at the wrong end of the A52. They can stick it up their arse.

Rumours last night he was suing the BBC for wrongful dismissal..allegedly that he was being made redundant, but yet replaced with someone on less money??

If that is the case unfortunately he won't get too far.  It's standard.  They'll take a few bits out, re name the job and crack on.  Been on the receiving end of that one.

Have you ever known a manager resign because it's the "decent, caring and honest" thing to do?

Most managers, I would suggest, will only resign (for footballing reasons) if their position is untenable, due to lack of support from the owner. You can't expect an employee of the club to have the same passion or level of caring for the club as us supporters.

How many of us would resign from our jobs and make ourselves unemployed because things weren't going so well?

Depends if I had 3 yrs on a contract with no promise of another and I could have the lot in one go.

Living in the city centre close to the river, it feels like we get a flood of this proportion every 1 to 2 years now, whereas it used to be a freak one every 30-40 years or so

In the 1930s the town centre flooded when Markeaton Brook overflowed. They then did loads of work to build a diverter tunnel from Markeaton Park down to the Derwent at Darley Park, so now Darley Park/Darley Fields acts as a huge flood plain.

Then they built huge floodwalls down there to contain the water and stop it flowing into Chester Green and surrounding areas, but each time they do that - it just moves the flooding further down the path of the river.

Suspect it's no coincidence that they just finished the flood works on Bass's Rec and now the Pentagon Island floods for the first time ever...

Saw some poor bugger on telly from Chesterfield slamming the council for allowing a load of new builds on a flood plain.  Apparently they increased the ground level to build by 18 feet and the run off has been a major issue.  Don't know how accurate he was.

Going back years gardens were larger, flatter and had grass and hedgerows.  Anything new tends to be on large soak ways areas with the inevitable removal of trees replaced with a lot of tarmac drives at an angle.  You'll be talking millions of litres of excess water with no place to go, running into road gullies that have been half blocked with stones from cheaply repaired road surfaces.

    Not a good combo.

Shots and goals as per Whoscored

I'm wondering if some of those shots to goals ratios were improved by Ince drawing 2 players at a time to him like terrified leeches on his arse, leaving lots of space for others to have the time to position their finishes. I note that the top 3 alI played with him. I recall a fair few of his goals being the beating of two players from the angle.  Remember scoring one like it against Forest which almost made their away support combust.

He scored about 1 in 3 as well.  I'd take that from a wide player today.

I was watching Tom Ince slotting them in for Derby on Sky Sports this morning. Strangely he was never too popular with the supporters.

We didn't know when we were well off.

I liked him cause he scored goals and didn't need many chances to do it. I'd accept the odd game where he didn't seem that arsed, for the majority of games where he could, as we had a hardworking if less headline grabbing swop in Weimann.  Now we have Wash For Collo.

Seriously how can you tell? The longest run of games had to be those he got at fullback? There'll be fans saying Wilson needs time, but for some reason not Sibley? I have no idea what level he can play to, but one thing I am certain of is that he needs a run in a team not just a game here and there. He should have been sent out on loan to learn a forward position if Warne doesn't trust the best finisher in the Club!

I meant Wilson.  Re Sibley.  He needs a run of games at 10.  He's a more useful outlet there than Waghorn who weirdly would be better out wide than Sibley or playing ahead of him up top.  Round pegs.  Sibley has the smell of Ramage about him who never seemed to get enough time in the team or if he did not in the correct position under Pickerings multi million team of youngsters. He probably needs to go elsewhere and have a season as a 10 and he'll no doubt get a 1 in 3 average.

I agree with some of that, but when he played with Sibs in front of him it seemed to work well, one game against whoever, but I'd start him and Sibs for a home game against Exeter.

He had a really good half against Blackpool, despite the miss of the season. That's all I've seen good so far in terms of making a difference.  Maybe because they set up to play and that gave more space.   He has the look of a luxury player to brought on when your winning 3-0 to keep stretching a defence with pace when they're leaving gaps.

Its a great question. It my have something to do with us getting the ball put wide and upfield as quickly as possible in a team set up for counter-attacking. So the ball speeds off up the pitch leaving the olayets trying to catch up with it, so the whole tram is stretched out, with large haps between defence and midfield, and between midfield and the front line.

So instead of short  or medium length passes, we ate having to attempt long “wonder-ball” type passes which are harder to execute. This is typified by Cashin, who used to do the shorter passes interspersed with the longer glory balls, which he was good at. Now all he has left to do are the super long passes, so his success rate is now much lower, so he appears to be a worse player.

It’s down to tactics, I’m afraid. Which I seem to think nay have been mentioned on this forum a time or two.

Yeah I just feel like we should give the players who are good with the ball at their feet a shot. like Wilson, Bird, Sibley etc I think he's an option as a second striker.... not permanently I agree

I'm not really getting Wilson.  He has no real positional sense or strength as a full back and seems to try and beat a player twice when in possession.  He isn't terrible as he has quick feet.  If he learnt to pass and move into space for a return more he'd probably be more effective.  I guess thats why a championship side let him go after a year though.  Quick feet were worth a gamble, if a quick brain can be added but they didn't see enough.   I do feel he was a 250k makeweight to get a deal done and allow a club always on an FFP knife edge the facility to free up wages to get the player they wanted, rather than a player we had particular interest in.

put him in the middle instead of collins, and tell him not to move out of the opponents half so we always have an outlet instead of being under constant siege

Yeah.  I thought that myself weirdly last few games but hadn't paid much attention prior.  Keeping a midfielder and striker further up is always handy.  We need to do the same if we're attempting those bizarre corners where everyone stays outside the box as we never get a sniff and everyone's out of position for the break.  It's a very strange routine.

NML needs to find his shooting boots, and some confidence!

I suspect he's that tired from travelling across time and space he'd struggle to find his boots.   We lost him as a decent player when Knight was moved from full back as he did all his running.  We've lost any usefulness at all now he's playing football at 3am on a 5 weekly rota.

He will only be effective as a sub, standing in a 10 yard radius, without any tracking player duties.  Basically not much at all

They will come to frustrate & nick a goal on the counter.

Hopefully the aftermath of Saturday results in the players coming out on fire & we get an early goal or 2.

No idea on lineup as Warne said a few have niggles but I personally would go with -

Wildsmith - Nyambe Nelson Cashin Wilson - Fornah Bird - NML Waghorn Barkhuizen - Washington

Vickers Bradley Ward Smith Hourihane Sibley Collins

A mobile front 4 with abit of pace to press from the front & really get in amongst it, then you have energy in centre mid from Bird & Fornah. Wilson at left back would give us more of an attacking outlet than Fozzy.

I've looked at the strikers we have and can see a slight kink in your cunning plan😃
