    Playing devils advocate...
Having a (non political) king or queen as a constitutional head of state is a calming leveller and the sole reason the UK is one of the very few European countries that haven't had political extremes... ie Italy, Spain, Austria... Germany.
The saving we get from abolishing the monarchy does not outweigh the pleasure the pomp & ceremony gives to so many people.

Not sure I'd quite describe it as a "great" away point. But it's another point on the board.

RebelScum reacted to Sentient Pulse in James Chester - Signed 1 year deal
    Hey;
    Another post..... ?
Villa fan here, just wanted to come and say 1) good luck with getting back to the Champ, and 2) Chester....
Chester was a huge asset for us in the Champ, a real leader and loved by the squad, Grealish specifically said he was the single biggest leader in the dressing room during our Championship years.
He is a great player for L1 level for sure, in terms of his injury record, Steve Bruce destroyed his knee by playing him week in, week out with a serious injury after we failed to sign any centre backs and bought 50 right backs instead, terrible really, but Chester soldiered on like a warrior for the team.
looks like he played 21 times for Stoke last season, so fingers crossed he will stay fit for you, if he does, great signing (probably the reason for the 1 year deal).
    Good luck.

RebelScum reacted to Macintosh in Andrew Ward, son of Tim Ward
A lot won't know who he is, and some may not know who Tim Ward is, but I think it deserves a mention. Sadly, Andrew passed away recently after a battle against cancer and dementia. He had already won a previous battle against cancer.

Tim Ward was one of Derby's greatest players. Signing for the Rams just before the outbreak of war, and missing the Cup Final because of national duty. His time in Germany saw him miss all but one game of Derby's 1946 FA Cup campaign. He played 238 times for us, and also gained two England caps as a right-half. He later left to play for Barnsley. His managerial career started oddly, having been appointed manager at Exeter. However, Barnsley had not released him and appointed him their manager eight days later. He won promotion for them from the Third Division and was there for eight seasons. He then managed Grimsby and got them out of the Third Division. For five years he was Derby's manager, signed Kevin Hector, and a lot of the team that went on to gain promotion under Clough: Durban, Webster, Boulton and Daniel. After a short stint as Carlisle manager he is to thank for the Ex-Rams charity matches, and the formation of the Derby County Former Player's Association in 1991.

Where does Andrew fit into this. Well he was an accomplished author, and he co-authored The Derby County Story with Anton Rippon in 1983. It was hugely successful and following soon was the Derby County Complete Record and the success of Breedon Books, whose importance to the world of football publishing cannot be ignored.

I thought I'd start a good book thread as we have a 'watchable telly' thread. Just got through the cicero trilogy by Robert Harris, despite being about 1,000 pages long in length it's only taken me a week to read. It's a real page turner, written in an accessible style yet constructed like a classic so that's something I'd definitely recommend.

RebelScum got a reaction from Boycie in The Great Escape
Guys, for as long as I can remember we have been after a song of our own, scratching around with members posting their favourite pop song suggesting we can change the word 'horny' to 'Rooney!'
Now we have a chance - 'The Great Escape theme', unless there is a physical or mental breakdown and it becomes 'A Bridge Too Far' (2 classic war films mentioned in a single post, good eh?), we will do it and this season go down in Derby County folklore.
We must have 4 fans that can play a musical instrument? stand together in The South Stand... We can be 'that club that plays that theme'.
What a way to honour this season for years to come - we will be telling our grandchildren of this... and mightily bored they will be! (get it?) ?
Well, I've proposed it, now someone better than me needs to sort it.
