I only saw it on newsreels in the cinema, because I lived in Malaya, but the first snows started on 28 December 1962 and there was still snow on the ground 11 weeks later. There were 20 foot deep snowdrifts, the sea froze at Herne Bay and Pegwell Bay, the upper Derwent froze and footy ground to a halt. That was the year they set up the Pools Panel.

Little-known fact - one of the original pools panelists was former football referee Arthur Ellis who went on to greater things - working with Eddie Waring et al on "It's A Knockout".

Small world, I was living in Malaya in 62 as well.

Are these steroid type roo’s common?  I thought they were like the ones near the tent?

I'd poo myself if I saw one like that. Most of ours are eastern greys so not as big as the Reds. A 6 ft grey earns a bit of respect.

is it too cold for salties at this time of year

We're still too far south for crocs and stingers. Funny seeing 6 ft Roos wandering through people's yards in the afternoon. OS tourist would love it.

    Well, quite.  So I gather.
I guess my little quip was borne out of sheer envy that you can use the term "Winter" and "27deg" in the same sentence!  ?

No worries mate, I was just taking the piss, I do worry whether my Aussie sense of humour comes over a bit weird sometimes. Last night here before we head inland to the bush. Here's a dusk shot looking north.IMG20210830171941.thumb.jpg.568578758056f1649621ca43522e7745.jpg

  5. Trip to Melbourne next week canceled since they’re in lockdown so we’re throwing the tent in the back of the ute and heading north up the coast to Woodgate then across to Cania Gorge in Central Queensland and to Mundubbera, Central Queensland (my hometown). Love camping in the outback. Early October off to Tasmania for a couple of weeks and flights booked for the Uk May 21 next year.

See below article. 28 days?! Are you sure you’re heading in the right direction? Lol

That’s a surprise because all the athletes were supposed to be quarantining at Howard Springs in Northern Territory. A bit silly taking them into a lockdown area. I think you might find that it will only be NSW personnel going into Sydney but if that’s  not the case it won’t go down well. Time will tell.

Just read the local paper and there are indeed 16 SA athletes quarantined in Sydney. What a total duck up. The AOC were told they would have to do the normal 14 days in SA after coming from a lockdown area. Hope someone gets reamed a new one over this.

My daughter's partner has just out this together, she did a bit of the camera work and appears occasionally.  Hope it raises the spirits a bit

Top video, amazing how much of that reminds of Queensland. We were booked to go over there next week but they have shut the border?so we’re going to Melbourne in a couple of weeks and then to Tasmania early October. Our year has been a bit like that, traveled everywhere from the Snowy Mountains down south up to the tropics in Far North Qld a few times. Makes you realise how lucky we’ve been. It’s been the one upside of not being able to go OS it’s been able to finally travel around Oz.?

We are slowing down a little on the vaccinations but the key is all those who need it have it.

Step by step we’re just getting on with life. Politicians are wasting energy with the will they, won’t they on vaccine passports and in my eyes, just trying to coerce younger people into taking it. I don’t see a court ever allowing them to be honest.

Still, I haven’t worn a mask since freedom day and neither have many others when I’ve been out. Went to an indoor play this morning, maybe 10% of parents were. Maybe 5% at the Derby game and that was mainly in the concourses.

Basically in a few months the only person who will be is Eddie.

Hopefully another couple of months we’re at that stage but in saying that we’ve been spared the worst of things compared to Sydney and Melbourne. We still haven’t given up hope of flying over to the UK next Easter.

Although different states seems to have different rules now but it looks obvious the delta variant is taking off?

When you get the vaccine supply do you think folk will take it? Maybe the case load taking off will will encourage people to take the vaccine?

Ours seems to be back under control with the seven day lockdown finishing yesterday. The big difference was the 2 three day lockdowns we had previously the cases got back to zero where yesterday there was still 9 cases but they had been in quarantine the whole time. Not sure if it’s the same over there but the majority of the delta cases here were children linked to a karate class, the teacher is a student doctor working at a main hospital.

I believe you’ll find vaccinations rates will soar when they become available. Noticed Sydney will give exemptions to tradies from the western suburbs (around 80% of their tradies live out there) that have vaccinations so they can get back to work.

On a brighter note the PM’s ratings have tanked over the last week and with a election due early next year the libs will have to pull their fingers out to have any chance of another term.

It’s been interesting to see how things have gone over there with your vaccinations rates, gives a glimmer of hope that things might calm down shortly.
