Gaspode got a reaction from MackworthRamIsGod in Paul Warne
As I watched us collapse from a decent first half to a turgid 2nd last night I thought to myself that the Charlton team were exactly the sort of squad that Warne would wet himself to manage - a group (May excepted) of big, strong, atheltic players that ran all night and got in our faces. Unfortunately, Warne is trying to get our group of players to do the same and they're simply not up to it - whether that's physical limitations, type of player or simply that they're struggling with the intensity demanded and are close to burn out.
Sacking him now would be a crazy move, but promoted or not at the end of the season, Clowes needs to have a heard-headed review of the manager and decide whether he's up to the job in hand - my opinion is that he's a small club manager who is way out of his depth with the level of expectation at PP - and in the Championship, his obvious limitations will only be more apparent.....

To be guilty of tactical cowardice surely he’d need to either use tactics or at least demonstrate he was relying on more than one?

This is descending into politics, but the suggestion was that the SNP were far more interested in causing issues for Labour than getting their motion through - ask yourself which party is the greatest threat to SNP seats at the next election? - and then ask yourself why Starmer was so set on obstructiong their plan (whether that involved applying pressure to the Speaker or not)? The slaughter in Palestine was very much secondary to the domestic politics of the opposition parties on the day.....

Even more ridiculous is an Astra for close to £40K and a Mini for over £50K - those are the manufacturers that will realy suffer if BYD undercut them....

After being highly critical of his commentating, I thought I should give him a chance and see if he’d used his absence from the airwaves to possibly listen to other commentators in order to improve - and to be fair, there were some improvements.
More often than not, I had a rough idea of where the ball was on the pitch (something lacking during his previous tenure), and I don’t think he mentioned anything about pigeons or trains (though I only started listening at kick off, didn’t listen at halftime and switched off at the final whistle so maybe he filled other parts of the program with his usual obsessions.
What I struggled with (other than the depressing tone of the whole affair with him and Eric trying to outdo each other in fault finding) is his utter obsession with proving how clever he is because he’s managed to qualify as a ref - several times he banged on about one of the Barnsley players having illegal shin pads - he kept putting himself in the place of the ref (“Don’t you talk to my assistant like that”) and tried to show off about his knowledge of the rules (“Most people don’t know that rule”) - geez it was tedious. He’s like the boring bloke in the pub that you try to avoid…
i wish him well in his recovery from whatever struggles he’s been going through but I can’t help thinking he’d be better served by joining his lad in the away end (has another RD football commentator ever felt the need to mention their family during a game?), possibly dressed in his full referee’s kit and waving cards towards the pitch. Dom (and dare I say the listeners) have been harshly treated by his return…

That's absolutely not what I want - just asking for a basic level of competence when describing what's happening on the pitch - preferably unhindered by mindless drivel and showing off.....as I've said before, a radio commentator should be able to explain what's happening by painting pictures for the listener - Dawes couldn't paint a shed door....
