Before the race on Saturday Sky were suggesting that Toto would spend the summer break deciding the make up of the team next year - Bottas did his cause a lot of harm and Russell did the opposite. Pretty sure he'll get the seat - if (big IF!) they think that him and Lewis can work together.....also I can't see Mercedes wanting to let someone with such natural ability move to one of their rivals.....

    It's very harsh on Seb.
But as far as I understand it the difference between technical regs and sporting regs is if you break a technical regulation you are disqualified from the session, no IFS, no buts, your car did not meet technical regs.
Sporting regs are what cover the driving, so that's up to what the steward's think the penalty should be (based on the rulebook sporting regs)
On the technical regs side I think that's always going to remain absolute (can you imagine Horner and Wolf if that was anything but the case?) But on the sporting penalties, I'd generally want racing incidents let go.
I did see Aston Martin are appealing against the decision because they thought they had 1.44L of fuel left in the car. I don't know if they succeeded. Could be it needed more time to drain back out the fuel system into the tank or perhaps just a mistake from Aston.

You’re right that they can’t complain, but the penalty for such a minor infringement seems to be disproportionate to the crime - Bottas takes out a quarter of the field and gets a 5 place grid penalty whereas Seb is disqualified.
There’s also ought to be an acknowledgement from the FIA that the reason Seb was short on fuel was because he’d spent the whole race within a couple of seconds of Ocon chasing for first place - almost unique in modern F1 that a whole race has the two leaders so close together….none of the normal pulling away and then easing off or accepting positions….. would the authorities prefer that he’d thought about fuel levels and eased off thereby making the race less exciting?
Additionally I think they need to decide where they’re going with F1 - fans and broadcasters want close racing and excitement yet the authorities are becoming increasingly involved with penalties for minor infringements which are having a direct impact on the races - the stewards are becoming like an F1 version of VAR - constantly looking to interfere in everything rather than only dealing with the serious stuff….

Certainly his decision - but they’d just had 20 minutes sitting in the pit lane to discuss possible strategies. Rosberg on commentary said it was so dry that they should all pit for tyres - amazed they hadn’t put that forward as an option or if they did, that he chose not to…..

Mercedes make up for it with Hamilton’s second stop, but that restart madness has still cost him the race unless he can pull off something extra special

The name of Derby County has been radically sullied in the press of late, some of it very unfair. Does the Club have a communications strategy to set the record straight over some of the issues eg how we cheated relegation? How we fixed our accounts? How we sold the ground to ourselves? What we value as a Club eg fairness, community spirited, ambitious.

My other questions would be to ask what we are doing to improve recruitment as its largely to blame for the mess we find ourselves in? We are undeniably one of the worst clubs in the country when it comes recruiting players for both the ability we recruit and in resale value of the players we sign. As far as I know, it hasn't changed since Mel walked through the door. If I was him, I would've chemically castrated the entire lot for wasting 10s of millions of my money. He seems a patient man in that regard.

It's been the case all through the pandemic that the figures being used to justify the decisions are flakey - and without accurate data, you can't make decent informed decisions. Hopefully one of the many lessons that need to learned from this will be that governments need to check where the figures originate from and what the likelihood of them being skewed by other factors are. Covid death numbers are clearly inaccurate as are covid admissions - yet the public are excpected to follow rules to protect the NHS based on the smoke and mirrors estimates predicted by the 'experts'....

Not sure if you've seen but the club announced that season tickets should be on sale in the next 7-14 days, once they do it should clear all this up with your seat reserved for you from last season.
Understand your frustration, first game back, you want to be sure you're around all your mates, but looking at the fixtures this should only really effect the one game, Huddersfield, that's if a season ticket holder has no morals and selects yours and your mates seats before you all get chance to.

So how long have they had to work out a plan to offer people (who've paid up over a year in advance) a guarantee of sitting in their own seat? It's lazy and taking people for granted....
Most long-term season ticket holders get used to their seat and the people around them. I sit with a large group of friends - the half-arsed system they've implemented means that we could find that a number of those people (who are unable to get onto the website this morning) being displaced - that's not because things have been hard for them, it's because they couldn't be bothered to do it right....
Most people may well choose their own seat, but there's no guarantee - it's a free for all - any other season ticket holder can sit in my seat and I can alternatively sit anywhere else - they know our normal seats, so why not just make those available as they do for cup games?

Carsley to replace Boothroyd as England Under-21 coach - BBC Sport
"Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Lee Carsley has been appointed as England Under-21s head coach.
Carsley replaces Aidy Boothroyd, who stood down in April after the team finished bottom of their group at the European Championship.
It was the fifth time in six tournaments the under-21s had exited a competition at the group stage.
Carsley, who played for Everton and Derby County, will be assisted by ex-England player Ashley Cole."
