nottingram got a reaction from Ghost of Clough in Derby Managers In Focus (March 2021): From Nigel to Wayne
He took over a team in free fall and was a silly decision (may not have even been his decision, I don’t know) in the play off first leg away from taking us up, imo. We went to Brighton and bossed them, spanked Hull 4-0 playing amazing football. I think people put way too much stock into a stupid draw with Rotherham which wasn’t even Wassall’s fault. The reaction to that game both at the ground and on here was the most pathetic I have ever seen, I think. And over the last few years that is no mean feat!

It all needs context. If I was ranking the job each manager did Clement would be comfortably bottom of the pile, maybe aside from Pearson who wasn’t given time, rightly or wrongly. That goes beyond win percentages.
Likewise Clough would be higher because the majority of his tenure was necessary pain.
The only manager(s) on that list who did a good to great job were Mac 1 and Mac 2, maybe Clough and maybe Wassall, when putting everything in to context, in my opinion.
Shows what a farce it was that Mac was sacked not once, but twice.

nottingram got a reaction from Andrew3000 in Louie Sibley
Rooney seems to be holding Sibley to a higher standard than everyone else for some reason.
Its easy to say he has to do more in his cameos but we are all sitting there watching Waghorn do nothing and watching Jozwiak stand on the ball by accident a million times a game while doing nothing else so that excuse really doesn’t wash. We are completely insipid from open play and we have an exciting and creative attacking midfielder twiddling his thumbs. It’s really bizarre

Just a shame it wasn’t their official account tweeting it this time or else you really would be in the money

For 90 minutes I was pissed off with him
Once the game was finished I was pissed off with Rowett and also Mel for hiring the Bamford. How can you force a player like that out the club so you can pay Huddlestone and Davies’ wages for a couple of years. Just horrendous.

nottingram got a reaction from Red Ram in George Thorne
Urban Dictionary seems to say it could be either, but in my head the whole story fits a lot better if it is used in a negative way in this context. Can’t imagine anyone in the squad taking too kindly to it really.
Anyway, doesn’t really matter. Pretty obviously a really stupid thing to do when you first join a club.

I think in this case “belter” is used in a negative sense, as in being a bit of an idiot. Looking back I think Thorne would agree it was idiotic hence “understandable” that they called him a belter.
Might be wrong but that was my take on it.

nottingram got a reaction from AGR in George Thorne
From the outside it looked like Rowett threw Thorne (and Keogh) under the bus after Sunderland which was a woeful team performance, but in fairness it doesn’t sound like Thorne had too much issue with being dropped. The fact he was never picked again was odd but in fairness the form of the team also picked up. However that season he showed he could be a useful option in a top 6 side.
At times in the Lampard season we could have done with more options in midfield, such as when he randomly decided he wasn’t going to pick Johnson after bite gate before having to go back on that. It’s maybe fair enough to say that an extra midfield option wasn’t worth £15k per game but we spent £3m and probably double Thorne’s clause on wages for a rotation left back that season (before giving Lampard’s mate a contract to play there as well) so not sure it really washes. Sounds like Lampard was an arse if he didn’t like you which corroborates with the stories coming out from Chelsea now.
Ultimately a fine footballer was robbed of two years of their career thanks to a clause, negotiated by ‘businessmen’, that he didn’t even know existed.

nottingram got a reaction from CBRammette in Kaide Gordon - signed for Liverpool
It is a shame but good luck to him. If he’s as good as people seem to think then he should rightly back himself to get in at Liverpool. People can say it stinks all they like but I would imagine there were no such complaints when we profited hugely from the sale of Jayden Bogle who we took from a smaller clubs academy, or as a slightly different example when we capitalised on Wigan’s situation to bring in two top end Championship players for about a quarter of a million. It is unfortunately the way the game works.
From a hard nosed financial perspective it would be better for him to go to more of a middling club as there is more chance of a sell on being activated that way but never mind.
