Strange isn’t it. That couple of years we had Keane, Bamford, Thorne, Lingard, Butland, Ince and Ibe on loans.
I think if you were to Rank their subsequent careers based on what I’d have expected after their stint at Derby, it would almost exactly inverse to what has transpired.

Not bad after losing two England internationals and Harry Wilson!

How much further do we take it?
Clearly the stadium has had to be sold because we overspent, that much is clear and you aren’t some wise oracle for pointing that out.
But I could take that one step further and ask why we overspent? Maybe it’s to appease a fan base who are spoiled and crave success?
In truth, Mel can’t win. He doesn’t spend a penny and he’ll get stick for milking the club dry. He overspends in order to try and do best by the club and the supporters and it’s his fault we’ve sold the stadium.

No we should absolutely not be selling Marriott at pretty much the very lowest point he could possibly be on his value curve. Also hugely misses the point that we need to cut costs and Martin is out of contract thus easy to shift
This season, West Brom, Cardiff and Swansea didn’t have a 15-20 goal striker. Leeds did (just) as Bamford meets your arbitrary good striker level with 17. I don’t believe that a good, functional team requires an excellent goal scorer, as goals are spread further between advanced midfielders and wide forwards. Chris Martin is also not a 15-20 goal a season man anymore really so not sure of the point of this discussion
You said we only got by with Marriott and Waghorn because we had goals from midfield. I explained we’re likely to have goals from midfield again this year, probably more so than in 18/19, but for whatever reason you’ve ignored that and just made a different point.

And next season will have Lawrence, Sibley, Knight and Rooney supplementing the attack, at a minimum 🤷🏼‍♂️.
2018–19 saw four players get double figures in  all competitions - Wilson (18), Mount (11), and Waghorn and Marriott (both 13). No one else got close.
Last season was a much more even spread. Lawrence got 10, Rooney 6, Knight 6 and Sibley 5 in a quarter of a season. Waghorn’s output has remained pretty constant but can’t imagine there’s any way Marriott will be as unlucky / poor again this season. Our midfield will be full of goals, so that isn’t a concern, so it comes back to our strikers. Marriott and Waghorn were enough for a decent campaign under Lampard, and we have Whittaker and JHI added into the mix who could hopefully chip in with a few each as and when required.
Dont think it’s an extreme scenario, a good right sided forward would remain a priority over a CF for me

We survived with less in Lampard’s season, if we are counting JHI. Not necessarily saying we would again, but Marriotts fitness was fine then and Waggy had an excellent season under him as well
