Think there’s been a global pandemic in the meantime that has drastically affected revenue streams everywhere, which potentially affects our ability to give out new contracts.
We might have been able to afford Martins contract but we might not have been willing to give him a THREE YEAR DEAL given that in a years time we might have a new manager that doesn’t rate him, although fingers crossed that wouldn’t be the case.
It might be that if Mel had foreseen this pandemic he mightn’t have committed to Rooney but ultimately no one knows the answer to that and no one saw this coming.
If only it was as simple as ripping contracts up. Unfortunately it quite clearly isn’t that easy. It might well be that the sponsorship income Rooney brings in is absolutely key currently, and Rooney is more important to the team than Martin is, in my opinion.
I don’t understand why people can’t grasp that he wasn’t let go. He was offered a contract the club felt was fair. For far too long we have been held to ransom by players so I don’t understand why it is such a bad thing that we aren’t willing to bend over backwards anymore.
He has been and is a good player but goodness me, he is not Derby County Football Club.

I think at some point, you are going to lose the ability to keep on replacing these players over and over again.
Take Southampton when they first went up, they had an amazing knack of selling Lallana or Shaw or Lambert and dipping into a foreign market and finding someone as good for half the price. Didn’t take long until they started struggling to do that, as other teams caught on. It won’t be long before an agent finds out Brentford are in for his or her player, and knowing their reputation, will be telling other clubs who can pay them a bit more how good he is. So the trouble with them not being promoted yet, is how much longer can they keep being good for when they can’t pay particularly high wages (despite their wages / turnover ratio being one of the highest in the league, I read). Things like Exeter only wanting half the money for Watkins from them as they did us, for example, won’t happen any more.
Last season felt like it should’ve been the one, what with them spending big on players outside their model, such as Pontus and attempting to sign Lyle Taylor in January, so I wonder how they will replace Watkins, or Benrahma, or Dasilva if he goes as well.
They deserve credit for their model and normalising analytics in football, which is an interesting subject in itself, but as with Bournemouth the plucky underdogs tag starts to lose its credibility when they are paying £5m for Mbeumo, or when they spent the most on a keeper as a team in this league has done for years if not ever, or signing Danish internationals from top flight La Liga teams.

Forest setting themselves up for some last day squeaky bum time, thanks to resting half their team when needing a point to guarantee play offs
We are all Stoke, Swansea and Cardiff

Not sure what it is but I really, really cannot stand Bristol City. Think it’s their little weirdo manager.
I remember after they beat us at PP earlier in the season he said he took no joy from it because he used to play for us. Thought it was when he was young and before my time but turns out it was in the Nigel Clough era. Clearly the club left a longer lasting impression on him than he did on me.
    Also, this:

I pretty much exclusively play Fifa and have reached the end of the cycle for this years Ultimate Team where my team is amazing but still do the same things as when it wasn’t, so wanted something new and spotted how cheap it was so thought I’d give it a go. Would never have paid full price but not much to lose at £4 and so far it is genuinely enjoyable

I picked up NBA 2k20 on the PS store for £4. Without knowing anything about basketball (literally I had to google the positions) I am enjoying it. The career mode is very slick and feels rewarding when you do something good.
Everything fifa should be but isn’t really. Maybe if I knew more about basketball I’d spot flaws in it

It's just finished after 11 series and does tail off a bit but the first few series are excellent. I must have watched the yard sale episode 10 times. Love that one.
If you like that, then I'd recommend Life in Pieces as well.

By all accounts Keogh and Mel are/were very close. If someone had to make a hard nosed business decision against someone they were close with, it is fairly likely that it would leave someone upset I’m sure?

I am quite sure it isn’t something that the club wanted to do, but the head probably does have to rule the heart when you’d be paying out the best part of £2m in wages for a player who’s injured themselves by being an idiot
