  1. Resurrected this thread as I’ve had a change of heart. I’ve been a supporter of Mel, I thought he’d just made the mistake of giving supporters what they asked for: ‘sack this manager, sack that manager’, ‘sign this player, sign that player’. All good intentioned, genuine but just slightly misguided.

…But now I’ve got to ask, how on earth has Mel let it get to this stage? We knew we’d have to resubmit accounts - why weren’t they ready? Why are we so late on submitting the latest accounts? Why have we accrued so much debt with HMRC - The alleged £20m is a lot in anyone’s book but this has to be paid! Why have we not set payment terms with HMRC? How were managers allowed to spend so much with no care for the future?

Putting players out on loan doesn't take them off our numbers.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we ‘sell’ them all for nothing to any teams interested in loaning them and set a buy back price.

it’s a sad situation but releasing our home-grown talented promising youths might be the only way to sign some over the hill ‘experienced’ players

Anyone get the feeling that the potential buyers are waiting for (and wanting) the club to go tits up then buy it for the proverbial song?

…..or there aren’t actually any potential buyers at the minute

Think it’s been relatively clear for a while now that we won’t have a buyer before the start of the season. The accounts aren’t even due before the first game (although I’m sure we’ll try to submit them before then). No ones going to buy the club before the mess is sorted.

    Best case scenario is thus:

We get accounts submitted before the first game, and they’re fine(?!?!).

We sign the frees and get some loans in ASAP.

Mel finds a suitable buyer before the January transfer window.

Of those three steps, I’m most nervous about the last one.

Don't we need to also get HMRC off our backs (be it agreeing a payment plan or paying debts in full) and get the EFL to discount the Chorley game before we can sign even frees?

Think it might even apply to signing loans too - definitely if a fee is involved but maybe even if not?

I have wondered about Bird at centre back.

Has the height and good left foot so similar to Clark in some ways.
Would need to work on heading & positioning but that is not the toughest skill set.

When I occasionally played at centre back rather than usual mid field I always thought it easier.

Not like Wayne hasn't tried him there before

What ever is going on at the Rams this side of the pond it's nothing compared to the Rams in the NFL, If the city of St Louis win there lawsuit case (which increasing is a possibility) it will become one big mess for not only the Rams but for other NFL owners and maybe even EPL teams?

    Thanks

Both the DET & BBC Derby have confirmed we're in talks with American consortiums...how much more concrete do you need without the club making another statement which they can be beaten with if it falls through again

We’ve been in talks with various ‘American Consortiums’ since the last lot of Yanks (/Canadians) left.

I like the sound of Baldock's potential:

"Baldock on the other hand has often been a victim of system. The archetypal channel runner alongside a target man, typically in a 4-4-2, he was rarely given an opportunity in that setup at Reading. Attempts by various managers to turn him into a winger or lone striker generally ended in failure, and he given scarce opportunities in the first anyway under Jose Gomes and Veljko Paunovic."

Sounds perfect for us, we love playing strikers like this on the wing or up top in their own

I agree CKR would have a decent choice but I don’t really see that his admirable views and comments about racism should be a factor. We need a leader out there on the pitch. It remains to be seen if Tom proves to be that person but I’m prepared to give him a chance.

In my opinion Tom has not shown any leadership in his past 4 years here, so i'm not sure it's the attribute Wayne has based his captaincy decision on.....

  10. I find it odd that at a time when we were changing captain every week Tom never got a look in. I know injuries played a big part in his season but surely there were times when Wanye would have given him a go if he'd shown any kind of leadership?

Wonder if he actually wants to leave and this is an incentive for him to stay as 'our most important player' or whether this is a way to circumvent the contract restrictions we're under in order to give him a payrise (Captain bonus).

I feel like this decision isn’t about who is best to lead the team but more that Rooney feels like it might help improve Tom’s attitude and get more out of him.

Whenever games aren’t going his way he is soon to have his head down, so I’ll be interested to see if this changes him.

I’ll get behind him and hope he takes this as a turning point in his career to realise he’s no longer that young player with potential but now a senior figure in the squad that should be leading by example.

That’s the only reason I can see but is getting that extra 10% out of Tom at the expense of a good captain getting an extra 5% out of the entire team worth it?

Rather take my chances with Mengi than Stearman. Rather Roberts any day than Aluko. Agree on Gregory and Baldock. My bigger concern is how many games can Jagielka actually play.

As for Morrison. We took a gamble with Ibe and it failed. This isn't the same sort of gamble, but it remains a risk.

I would say at best we have got bodies in for bodies sake(if we sign them). It might be the best we can do but it doesn't suggest anything other than a long hard season of scrapping.

Decent loans these days require a fee, I believe these type of loans are also under embargo? Decent loans usually involve us paying a large amount of their wages, quite probably above our £11.5k

    More cryptic hints from Dawes...

In my book he shouldn't be doing this as a representative of Radio Derby.

If he's ITK then it's leaking of info, and if he's not then he's using his position and guesswork to gain followers
