This!  There's not much I get on my soap box about but this is the one that lights my touch paper.  Relegated teams not only often come down with the core of their PL squad still intact, but then get given millions to aid their cause. It's no wonder they'll invariably either get promoted straight away (aka Norwich / Watford) or at least be fighting for the play offs (aka Bournemouth / Swansea).  Whilst the rest of the clubs, Derby in this case break the bank to try and compete.
By regaining immediate promotion the PL recoup something like £83 million for Norwich and Watford.  Add to that what Bournemouth / Swansea would have got and you're looking at over £100 million.  I know the EFL are supposedly looking to ask for this "back" but it's not the policy so is unlikely to wash.  Distributing that money across the EFL clubs instead of back into the already overflowing PL coffers would provide a huge lifeline for many clubs.  Whilst I know it's money that originates from the PL pot, so they'd see it as just keeping "what's ours", as it would have been paid into the EFL, why not still do so - it'd be a massive step in helping to keep the 69? EFL clubs afloat.  Grrrrr

A reminder of what the EFL are appealing...
The second charge (amortisation) was split up into 5 particulars.

    1. The EFL withdraw the first particular,  so nothing to look into.
    2. This is not in contradiction to the financial standard FRS102
    3. As per the 2nd particular
    4. Unreliability in estimating a player's value does not mean the policy contradicts FRS102.
    5. Inadequate disclosure is punishable. As it doesn't impact passing/failing P&S, it is impossible to receive a points penalty against this particular.

Great thread and one that's incredibly valid.  We're all aware of the fact things happen to others but only generally focus on what happens to us. It's very humbling to read what others have gone, or are going through. My thoughts are with everyone here dealing with horrible events, having gone through a hugely stressful 2020 personally (wife and I contracting COVID then wife having a mastectomy for breast cancer, now all clear fortunately) and for other reasons this year hasn't been brilliant so far. As I've said before on another thread, this forum has been great for me personally in helping to act as an escape from some of the poo we have to deal with in real life.  At times though, even the forum has been a hard read due to negativity and borderline spite at times, but that's comes of an open forum, full of very passionate fans but all with very different approaches to life and respective communication styles. I've had to accept at times communication by word is sometimes hard to do and is often miss-construed rather than take personal offence at something. Not always easy!
On a personal level, much as I love DCFC, yes I'll be gutted if we get relegated, but will soon move on and "look forward" to next season's games, albeit with less glamorous clubs. It won't detrimentally impact my longer term well-being to that effect.  For some here however, that may well not be the case hence why it's a great post by @Ken Tram.  As a long distance supporter I don't have the closer interaction a lot of you on here do, and I'm sure many of you know the more vulnerable people here, including those who wear a huge heart on their sleeves.  For me, Derby is part of my life, but I know for some, Derby IS their life.
If you do know of people who are likely to be impacted, it's important to provide support, but that those individuals know too that people are here to support, to act as a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on or indeed help get you professional support where needed.
We all have different lives, different opinions, some of us are blunt and to the point, some read and re-read their posts before publishing to make sure there's nothing in there to offend (yep, that's me) but one thing we all share is a love for this club so keep the love all and lend an ear, arm or shoulder whenever you can.

I thought 2020 was a tough year, 2021 has been absolutely mental so far.
5 weeks ago my brother-in-law committed suicide and then last week my wife lost our baby whilst 4 months pregnant and we spent a rough couple of days in hospital having to still give birth. Tough times.
I was at least hopeful Wayne Rooneys Rams would cheer me up slightly on the Saturday, but it wasnt to be.
My escapism has always been the Rams, but at the minute it's like going on holiday to Normanton to get away from it all.

I'm so very very sorry to hear about your baby. People do not talk about miscarriage. We had four. And yet before then, I had not known anyone who had experienced one. There are so many things that we face alone, and which are still fairly taboo.
(I always light a candle for all four of my lost children when I visit a church.)
And I have a lovely son - although I often forget how lucky I am!
The suicide of your bother-in-law is terrible. I was close to doing so last summer.* It is quite extraordinary how the mind can work. And I am sorry for him and everyone affected.
    * And I've never told anyone else that - only you, and the forum!

Firstly, let's start off by looking at the minutes of academy graduate involvement in the league since Mel's takeover in 2014 (excluding Hughes and Hendrick):
    14/15 - Hanson (160), KThomas (65), Bennett (36)
    15/16 - Hanson (892)
    16/17 - Lowe (716), Hanson (251), Bennett (23)
    17/18 - Hanson (50), Bennett (41), Thomas (6)
    18/19 - Bogle (3485), Bennett (1108), Lowe (270), Bird (110), JML (7)
    19/20 - Bogle (2902), Lowe (2281), Bird (1910), Knight (1808), Sibley (739), Buchanan (276), Whittaker (269), Bennett (178), JBrown (6), Trialist (6)
    20/21 - Knight (3302), Buchanan (2421), Bird (1838), Sibley (953), Whittaker (207), McDonald (199), Watson (133), Trialist (57), Stretton (29), Cresswell (8), Ebosele (6), Gordon (1), JML (1)
Up until 2018, academy graduates were limited to cup games or being their in case of emergency. Lowe was the only one to get a run of games and impressed in them, only to get dropped back to to 4th choice when, Forsyth, Olsson, Warnock or whoever else was flavour of the week at LB. Lowe looked ready for that step up but his progress was blocked because of the sheer number of high earning players in front of him - this is what Mel wanted to prevent in the future as it stalled Lowe's progress for 2/3 years.
In the 18/19 season, Frank wanted to loan Bogle out for experience. Because we chose not to give him the odd appearance in the league previously no-one wanted him. However, it's hard to argue against Bogle and Bennett deserving their game-time under Frank.
Due to heavily focusing on the first team, we could no longer afford to keep such a large squad under P&S, hence a cut back in 19/20. Let's not forget we were under and embargo? Bogle deservedly retained his place as 1st choice RB.
Lowe started the season as 2nd choice LB due to Fozzy's long term injury, and only came into the side following Bogle's injury. By the end of the season, many felt he was our best LB.
Bird came in to the side half way through the season due to an injury crisis at CM (Bielik, Huddlesteone, Shinnie, Evans all out?). He was some people's player of the season despite only playing in half the games.
Sibley was head and shoulders above U23 and looked ready for Championship football, as shown by his 5 goals in 11 games at the end of the season. You could also argue Knight came into the side too soon, but again, he proved he was ready with consistent performances and a respectable 6 goals in 31 games.
Buchanan again only came in due to an injury crisis.
Others invovled due to not being able to add any more depth without failing P&S
On to this season, as you know we are still feeling the repercussions of our heavy spending early on in Mel's reign. Under another embargo, if i recall correctly?
Bird, Knight and Sibley rightfully deserved to be included in the squad base on their performances in 19/20.
Buchanan started off as Fozzy's backup due to selling Lowe and loaning out Malone to stay within financial restrictions.
Are we really arguing over 200 minutes of football given to the odd remaining player?

£5m seems reasonable to Norwich, Reading, Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Stoke and even Sunderland
