Dumped out of the cup at home by Cambridge.
Must be Ashley and Bruce's fault.

But the academy is providing a conveyor belt of talent that will save us in having to buy players or enable us to sell for big money. The last thing that I would cut….

EtoileSportiveDeDerby reacted to Big Trav in Coventry City (A) FA Cup 3rd Round Matchday Thread
Must say. I think joz is starting to settle a bit. Looks a lot happier on the pitch and looks a lot more involved with the team. He’s been given a hard time in the past year and I’m happy he’s starting to play well

The thing about Mike Ashley is he knows how to run a profitable business (i share some of the points of @IslandExile about how he goes about it) and he knows that profitabilty and eventual growth in value of an asset with a view to sell means one thing only and that is PL. Providing you got a good manager you dont need hundreds of millions of investment to get out of the championship, we know that he wouldnt do that, but he has got the means to invest at championship level. Cost cutting isnt an option as there is really no fat to trim at the club, we are already at the bare bones. Putting all the points together. I think I can see that not only it would get us out of a really bad situation but could lead us onto better things.

Good point but as we stand with the amount of players coming through into the first team a shrewd business man will see the value. It is one thing producing academy players for a championship team and another for PL team, even a very average one like Newcastle.

They are the most deluded set of fans ever. It is very unlikely to happen to be fair, but imagine for a second their face if next year Derby County (owned by Mike Ashley) beat the richest club in the world in a championship fixture. The cruel beauty of the football gods at its best.

When it comes to football, money talks. The Personality, behaviour, actions of rich people arent judged by the same rigour as long as they are willing to "help" in our desperate case, or just splash the cash like the Saudis at Newcastle or the Qataris at PSG.
From the various post in this thread, it seems like your moral compass is on much higher setting than most, thats fine, it should be commended and is not controversial.. However, ultimately we may not have much of a choice in the matter, it is not like there is a long queue of bidders and when the admins talk about prefered bidder, it is most likely to be the lone bidder.

Don't worry about it.
It seems I've offended everyone by saying that I wish we could get an owner other than Ashley.
But yes, I've supported Derby County for 54 years..... Of course I want them to survive, of course I want the best for them.
I do think a forum should be a place for discussing things - and for people to express different opinions. Someone accused me of being naive earlier. Perhaps I am... It seems you cannot offer an alternative view.
If it's Ashley that saves us, believe me I will be delighted that we still have our football club ?
