Stive Pesley reacted to sage in Surviving on £1 a day for food and drink
With the spiralling cost of fuel and other essential items, particularly the cost of heating your home, it has been been reported that a further million people will be plunged into poverty over the next month, with half of them children. Many families will be faced will the awful choice of eating or heating.
The UK average spend of food and drink is £40 a week. However many survive on a fraction of this. Therefore to shine a light on this, experience a little and raise some money, My lad and I will be living on £1 a day each on food and drink for a week, a total of £14 for the two of us.
We are going to start this on Easter Monday (a kind of belated lent) and hopefully manage the full 7 days. Obviously this won't be easy but I won't pretend this is anything like suffering many people will be going through around the country.
Almost 2 years ago, David and I launched a campaign on here to raise money for the Derby Mission Food Bank when many people were laid off due to Covid. I am looking to do the same again, with anyone who can afford it donating to the same cause. I am hoping we can raise £1000. I will be donating the difference in what I would normally spend on a supermarket shop for the two of us.
I will set up a specific DCFC Fans donate account and provide a link in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, maybe posters could share experiences and ideas around this area. Many on here will be able to donate but many posters may also need help, so I hope we can come together and help each other.
I will do a diary entry on here on how we manage, how we shop, what we eat and how we feel.

It's like a sketch from a comedy show, with the joke being that it's so over-the-top that nobody's ever going to believe it.

I see sanctions against Russia don't go as far as being inconvenient to our Chancellor of the Exchequer's family fortune.

Went to the petrol station today. Started filling up and looked at the cost going up. I started feeling sick and got sweaty all over and felt dizzy.
    Apparently I’ve got Carownersvirus.

If you want to get in and out of Russia for personal (or business) reasons you can but it's not easy. You can fly out of the Middle East hubs such as Doha or Dubai and a lot of traffic is going through Armenia.
For tourists there are apparently stalls in Moscow offering Italian visas that have popped up, given lots of places are going to be a little more tricky to get to. Not sure how they will travel but be sure they only want sanctions to apply in one direction. Some of the traditional locations such as Goa and Turkey are still open for business for Russians. Vietnam just removed all visa restrictions for Russians and most of SE Asia is happy to receive them.
But they should be careful what they wish for, I would be more likely to be supportive of Putin before I would endorse the actions of the average Russian tourist. If you think Brits abroad are something special you've obviously never encountered a group of Russian holidaymakers at an all inclusive buffet.

There has to come a point surely where you have to stop and wonder, if it's irritating you so much, and causing you to dream up as many arguments as you can as to why you think it's wrong - maybe the problem is you and not football?
Have you ever considered, you know - just not letting it bother you?

It's so utterly depressing - when you consider that the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty was signed in 1968 and has been in force since 1970, the fact that the so-called superpowers have continued to stockpile and develop new nuclear weapons, despite having signed a treaty that was supposed to lead to complete disarmament. The Arms industry has won, and always will
The only true purpose of the treaty seems to have been to ensure that the US, UK, France, China and Russia get to have nuclear weapons and no other country is allowed to. Has that kept world peace? Maybe...until now
But I'd love someone from outside the Arms industry to explain to me why these 5 countries have (and more the point, need) something like 15,000 nuclear warheads between them. 50 years after they signed a disarmament treaty
    Damn them all to hell!

That's a little unfair - he also has a poor final touch
One of those frustrating players who can beat a man, get into a great area and then either blast the ball into nowhere, or get himself surrounded by defenders and then fall over
No denying if he works on those elements of his game, he could play at the very top level

Seemed to be a very pleasant young man, but genuinely not convinced he will make it to any great level. Blistering pace and strength clearly, but has a poor first touch, and only one foot. And as @Boyciewould say "he were rubbish anyways".

I didn't know that - but I do remember reading a science book years ago about how they proved if you force people to stay awake for long enough, eventually they start to have terrifying hallucinations - essentially waking nightmares
I digress but in the same book they also experimented with glasses that turned your vision upside down. If the test subjects wore them for long enough, their brain would correct itself and turn the image the right way up. Then if they took the glasses off it was like the whole world was upside down

Of course I may have dreamt all of the above ?

The pandemic couldn't have come at a worse time for our club. I know other clubs lost an equivalent amount of income but they didn't have the shocking amount of debt that we had built up or the jaw dropping level of financial mismanagement.
But that seems to be the way things go for our beloved club. Nothing ever easy or straightforward and it's the fans and the staff and those who are owed money who suffer.
Those responsible should hold up their hands, admit mistakes and make reparations.

Before the pandemic - he made no secret of the fact he was trying to sell the club. He couldn't get any serious parties interested in the deal that he wanted. In other words a good deal for MM was a bad deal for the buyer
Then the pandemic hit and he realised he stood even less chance of selling, so he put us in administration because he thought that would make for a more attractive deal for buyers. He was wrong
The only attractive deal left for any buyer is to pick up the pieces of a liquidation
    It's one man's fault
