Raich Carter reacted to TigerTedd in All time Legendary Left-backs - Craig F Ranking?
Don’t make excuses for him.

Raich Carter reacted to Carnero in All time Legendary Left-backs - Craig F Ranking?
I'm judging their career in a Derby shirt, not their overall career. Otherwise the thread is pretty pointless.

Raich Carter got a reaction from Ellafella in All time Legendary Left-backs - Craig F Ranking?
Jackson was a right back and a bit of a dick off the pitch.
Micky Forsyth - had forgot about him. Loved him back in the day, a proper grafter.
Chrissy Powell wins it for for me. Olsson and Dorigo get honourable mentions.
Fozzy - in the top 6 for me I'd say.

A mention for Tony Dorigo who did well in the short time he was here.

Raich Carter reacted to Carnero in Young Derby Players who didn't/haven't have the career we thought they may have done
Nyatanga, Holmes & Bennett spring to mind as highly touted youth internationals that didn't come to much.

Never too early for a moan.....I like to pack half a dozen in before breakfast but I've been distracted today by the women's soccer....

Sorry to hijack this thread but when looking for photos for Baiano, I found this... It'll be a long time before one of our players sits on a bench with a player like Maradona...

I'm really not sure that's the case anymore. Players careers are definitely much longer these days. I remember a lot of players being done at 32 but there are many playing much, much longer now so I'm not quite so bothered as some about 30+

Which is why you need grafting full backs who are good decision makers to avoid that scenario - I.E. early crosses from deep (as we've seen in the pre-season games) so they can get back as opposed to driving the the by-line as that's a loooong way back. And that's why you have a back three to block/buy time for full backs to get back.
We had many great seasons under TBE playing this system and I personally love it - think it's much more dynamic and exciting that 4-4-2.

You're both correct and very welcome sir!

Despite Ward being a long way up the pitch at times on Wednesday evening he made some great interceptions to prevent counter attacks, too.
You could immediately see the improvement from when someone like Mendez-Laing was in that role last season.
It's a bit more difficult on the left hand side with Thommo as he's just filling in, but Cashin notably covered across a bit more there for him. And he was terrific going forward.

@whiteroseram listed 4 players (Davies, Stearman, Chester and McG)
You responded thus... "Average age of those 3 is..."
Anyway... the moment's gone now... apart from thanking you for calling me "Youth". It's been a while! 😁👍

Agreed on Barks but not sure I agree about NML. PW always seems to fuss him on the little video snippets we see and despite NML really tailing off last season, still played lots. I suspect he'll try him more central to see if he's got it but he's an out and out winger for me. He was awesome at the beginning of the season - really fast, really powerful - seemed a level above but then for some reason, just seemed to disappear later in the season.

Raich Carter reacted to MackworthRamIsGod in Bradley Johnson….U21s Player/coach
I would be more than happy with Bradley Johnson coming on with 10 minutes to go to help see a game out.
I would probably be happy to see if he could play the John Eustace type role.
A good bit of under the radar type business, we may never see him in the first team, but what a back up to have.

He looks like he'd fit right in with our front line this year:
PS I jest. I'm not age'ist!

Sorry to bring this up again but just stumbled across a stat here.
The average age of our outgoing players is 29.9 and the average age of incoming is 26.2 with two eldest players being 31.
This is slightly higher than the average of L1 but I think, as per other comments, that's because we're trying to find players to get us up ASAP with the knowledge that if we go up, they'll be replaced as they're on short'ish term contracts or be good enough to stablise us in the Champ. Whereas the likes of Stevenage, who have a lower average age of incoming, are looking to stabilise in the L1 and develop their players over a number of years and get promoted that way.
Also, according to the same source, no L1 has paid a transfer fee this season thus far.

Yeah but that wasn't Rich's point. He was talking about the age of strikers we are being linked with and he is totally correct about that

Yeah, they've just done '?' on transfers where it's not been a free transfer for all of them at the moment. We know Charlton didn't get Alfie May for nothing, for example, plus there's been plenty more. As I said, I think Blackpool fans were of the belief that Joseph cost them between £750k-1m but transfer fees in general aren't disclosed anymore.

Transfer window isn't over yet fellas. Like I said on another thread, it's musical chairs now I reckon.
