Talk about provocative questions ! .. If you intended to start a debate .. you succeeded !
”Lack of effort” .. you really don’t watch much football or watch Joz. … whatever else he is, he is a grafter.
“ Lack of Quality”.. compared to what ? … how many players do we have that can beat a man and have decent pace ? Then There’s the small matter of him being a recognised international, young and still developing.
“Disinterested” .. really ? Not noticed it myself .. ever .. always looks willing and combative.
He had a very average game on Saturday. Didn’t get much of the ball, got caught in two minds (shoot or pass) - once - on the basis of this and not scoring goals in a team where all are falling short you want rid when prices are at the bottom. Idiocy !
So on the basis of that you want to loan him out and get in what exactly ? .. “another player who would cut it in this league” .. available really cheaply at any corner shop are they ?

He provides competition for Festy, other teams know he’s dangerous so stretch resources to watch him. He also has excellent on the ball skills.

Well it should do. Grealish has just gone for 100 million mainly for his ability to draw fouls or throw himself to the turf whichever way you want to look at it.

Spot on. I think he’s a little isolated socially. Remember how Jim Smith signed foreign players in pairs.
we will see him play better. Just needs some time. Hangover from Euros and not had much of a break.

    Agreed.
    It should still be Lawrence

Only just returned to training after the Euros. If we had a squad he wouldn't have been considered while he brought his fitness up to speed, but that's where we are.  He'll be on it in 2-3 weeks and will score the winner against the Gumps. And this time it will be allowed to stand.

I quite like him. Wasn’t nearly as bad yesterday as some people are suggesting. I accept he needs to improve his ‘end result’, but doesn’t necessarily equate to getting rid. Keep and nurture.

Also he is a bit behind the curve on match fitness as returned later to training. He’s got quality, which is why he played for Poland in the World Cup. I sometimes despair at some of the nonsense spouted on this Forum, first game of the season FFS.

    He'll be fine.
You can cut and past the criticism of him with just about every wide forward we've had in the last ten years. We've seen these comments about Weimann, Russell, Ince, Lawrence, and so on at vairious points.
He's been disappointing because he was quite a big investment for us but I don't buy that he's either not trying or offering nothing. Given the state we're in we're going to need him. bit of confidance and some end product would be nice but lets not get all scapegoat after one inconclusive game into the season.

He has just become the new scapegoat for some.
He had an average game yesterday as did most of the team give them time and stop jumping on there backs after one match!!

I thought he was great when he was playing with Bielik last season. I think that must be a factor.

Disagree I saw plenty of effort he was no worse than any of the others Huddersfield pressing made it difficult to settle on the ball.

I’m sorry to say but I think his performance yesterday signifies that he is not needed in this team. Lack of effort or quality and I think he looks disinterested and disengaged. I think he’d be better off being loaned out or sold. That way we might be able to sign a player or loan a winger who could cut it in this league.
    what are your thoughts?

Yes, I think he is too. Despite  his parting shots, I liked Duane. He was a worker with some good skills. In that sense we have an “improvement” we just found it in the back of the cupboard. Lost a penny, found a sixpence.

I think you’re right. I also think, despite what the gossips say, that Rooney knows it. I think Rooney is doing it slowly, doesn’t want to throw him in to the ring too early and also Rooney has a cautious mind set. We will see more of Sibbo as the season develops.

It was a great ball in and a giant headed it in - it will happen again !
Lets not get on about zonal marking and man for man marking - we mark zonally for a reason, we are a small side and we have to have height in key places otherwise the opposition just move the tall players out of the way of an area where the ball gets delivered to another tall player.
I would actually like to see us leave two players up front from corners ( although this wasn’t a corner) just to keep 3 opposing players away and give us a chance of breaking on the opponent

I was right behind the goal and that cross was hit with so much pace and whip. Got to say how did they pick that Thomas lad up from non - league ? He caused problems all day. Good recruitment

I have never been a massive fan of Roos but I don’t think he was particularly at fault for the goal and actually had a good game. The smart save with his feet preserved a point and he came and claimed and awkward ball late on which impressed me.

Great delivery, pace and bend, would be hoping a defender could get a head on that if anything. Saddens me that Roos will continue to be picked apart because of this scapegoat tag he has been attached. For me he is 1st choice currently over Marshall, and no doubt considerably cheaper.

I watched Sibley numerous times for the academy and a few times for the first team. I genuinely haven’t see anything wrong with the lad’s ability to defend or help the defence. He’s much more likely to put his body on the line than 90% of the attacking midfielders in the Championship. He’s also the most accomplished ball carrier this team has, in all honesty that’s not even close to being debatable.
Sibley has the highest ceiling of any player this club has and he’s the only person we have that is capable of offering what we need. It’s football’s greatest crime that he isn’t in this Derby team week in, week out. It’s a travesty that he has to be at such a poorly run club whilst he’s developing, at least give him the freedom of pride park to generate some excitement for the poor bar stewards that are going to have to sit and watch through the season!

Anyone have any views on the two penalty shouts ?
I’m on the half way line, a Derby Fan and ahem, clearly have a leaning towards our guys .. all the same .. my view.
Lawrence was impeded for sure, don’t know if it was foul play or not, but he elected to stay on his feet. He then slumped down afterwards, maybe as a last ditch attempt at a sympathy vote from the ref. … Dunno ?
Watson .. He was through, no doubt, shot was on. Was his heel clipped first ? It certainly looked like he got a shove in the back.

Of the two, and trying not to be biased, I really think the Watson one was a penalty, or if not then a pretty honest call.

I’d prefer to dwell on the punch he did in the second half. Old Roos would have punched out to the D and caused a big problem… New ROOOOOOOS got a great well timed punch in and knocked it some distance out to his left and out of the danger area. That and the excellent right boot save when he’d been sent the wrong way. Think he had a great game . The ball in for the goal was a dream delivery well taken by the scorer.

You know what is great about this thread … we aren’t quite as threadbare as we thought we were.
Looking at everyone’s suggestions .. Bielik to come back later in the season. Knighty and Buchanan on the mend. The Sibley question, Watson starting to look more than elementary. Alternatives of Joz and Festy …. We are slow up top but that aside we have a team
