You’re dead right. I’d say we lack a security blanket for injuries but we can put out a decent team no doubt at all.

I just watched the highlights of the Notts game. I didn’t see any one from either side holding back and despite the difference in leagues Notts had some skilled footballers .. that triangle they created for the cross where they hit the bar was quality football in any league. We beat them. More to the point Ebesole, Hutchinson, Watson, Sibley Bird etc are all going to be better players with each and every game they play.

it’s a fragile thing given the squad size. We won’t be challenging for the play offs, but as it stands we have a side that can hold its own. Add Some defensive cover, a cutting edge up front and critically some confidence .. things can only get better.

I love the lot. Jeez who wants to live in an echo chamber. I just lurrrrrv explain to everyone, precisely why I am right .. this is quite distinct from arguing ? But if other people have a different view then fair doos. ( obvs they are either misguided or just plain wrong and I will do my best to help them which gives me great satisfaction, without which the forum would be pointless)
yes, the occasional post can get my goat, just as the occasional opinion might make me shift a few degrees but mostly it’s chewing the cud with a gang of folk who all just want us to win games.

Well if you believe what you read in the press of course you’d be worried. But I don’t accept the squad will be that weak.  A number of our academy players are - we can already see - developing fast. Beilik’s return is likely before Xmas. We will miss Clarke for sure but (tho I may have missed something) I hope we will sign Menghi as well as some of the more experienced trialists. (48 hours from Sunday, according to Rooney...).  I think it will be a squad that many a manager could do pretty well with - we may be in the headlines but many clubs are in the poo financially and don’t have Mel’s firepower as a safety blanket. I’m just hoping Rooney has learned from his experience last season. And that he will look to others for advice. Of course we can’t yet rule out a points deduction ...

Whatever happens before Saturday, signings or no signings, the fans have a big part to play to create a good atmosphere before, during and after the game.

No boooooooooing, get behind whatever team starts and finishes.

Before everyone panics themselves to death…..we have a good enough squad to beat Huddersfield and Salford without any signings as it stands today. It doesn’t have to be done this week

Who are the wrist slashers who want the team to lose? We have been over this numerous times haven’t we? It’s not that difficult to understand. You can be critical of aspects of how the club is run and some decision making by the club, the appointment of a novice with no management experience just at the wrong time for example. You can question posters that wanted Cocu out but are very vocal at wanting Rooney in. But come a Saturday we all want the team to do well don’t we? I certainly do and will cheer the team on regardless of who is Manager and who is picked to play.

    Why not both?
It would be super boring to have just one set of views. The whole point of the forum is to allow varying opinions to be aired. I know some people get upset when people disagree with them, but they really need to lighten up.
The absolute worst posts on here are the people who regularly target other posters just because they don't share their own opinion.
I want both types and many more in between otherwise the forum would just end up bland and sterile.

Quite quiet on here today. It would be of course - we won!
So tonight I have read mainly happy clapping posts suggesting we might yet reach the playoffs this season, that Rooney is beginning to prove himself in the most difficult of circumstances, and that we have discovered another couple of young superstars from our Academy who could be revelations in the Championship this season.
Now we all know if we had lost, there would have been a far higher number of wrist slashing posts suggesting that we are League 1/2 material, that we should get rid of Rooney (with multiple offers of being the taxi driver), and that our youngsters are nowhere good enough yet for the rough and tumble of pro-Football.
Except for a small few, most on here will be very happy to know or have watched us win. That’s take that as a given.  But in respect of reading posts on here, and entering into a bit of back and forth, do you prefer:
    1) The quieter, nicer posting environment where everything looks pretty positive, or
    2) The noisy, often vitriolic atmosphere where everything looks like the world is going to end?

Yes its a non league team but we have now won 2 games in a row including vs a La Liga team who finished 6th, plus 2 clean sheets.
However, what I do want to say is im sure during this weeks build-up alot of media will be reporting about our 1 win in 15 at the back end of last season & make out that negativity continues into this season, well these 2 wins are very important as it can dismiss any of that negativity as they are just as relevant as last seasons form.

Really good first half that. Absolute control for probably 35 minutes of it & played some neat stuff - final ball saved Notts from being further behind.
Ebosele & Cashin the absolute standouts though. Festy's pace is a must for the league XI & Cashin has been excellent in every facet of CB play - good in the air, positionally tidy, good on the ball & even seems to be playing wrong side (left footed but playing on the right side). Fully deserves his goal. Also liked the look of Thompson - good set piece delivery, good weight of pass & generally very composed in midfield.
Watson & Jozwiak been quiet though - both need to start demanding the ball more in dangerous areas, playing closer to Kazim when the ball gets to him & being more mobile to find space in the final 3rd when it doesn't.

So if that was your boss you wouldn’t work as hard, respect him and accept being disciplined by him, true?
It’s not making excuses for him, it’s just not judging another man to a higher standard because he so happens to be a football manager.
Manager of Tesco or Derby County, they should be judged on the job they do, not their private life  unless it’s illegal and impacts the job they are paid to do.
If any fan doesn’t want Rooney as manager that’s fine, no problem, but use results, performances on the pitch to judge him by, don’t use this incident to strengthen the case to get rid, just no need.
It’s chip paper now, nothing more.
