I wonder what others in LoG thought of him?

He’s messed up on a monumental scale. Covid was the nail in the coffin he’d already made on the advice of others that he was too vain or foolish to question.
it’s going to go on for 3 years or more to know where we stand even if we manage to survive.
The EFL are not a worthy representative organisation
The rules and regs as they are currently constructed are full of flaws and loopholes. They are policed unevenly and in a way the encourages self interest rather than equitable solutions
Mel’s windfall when involved in world changing industries like cyber dating and mobile gaming convinced him he was a skilled entrepreneur rather than a bit of a chancer with an eye to an opportunity.

That’s poor form. He had huge support from the club. Low blow, cheap, expected more.

But how many of his detractors now were the ones saying “Uncle Mel” .. “pay what it costs” .. “yeaaarrr we got our man” .. “genius attracting Lampard” .. “Wayne ducking Rooney” etc etc etc
He has effed up big time. His legacy is failure, reckless foolishness, lousy decision making, misplaced trust and dire, desperate uncertainty. No equivocation.
but he wasn't and isn’t the 3 amigos and there are a lot of folk spitting bile on here that need to look at their own changing views over his tenure.

As with most polls, surely it’s not as simple as selecting one of the four options for question 1.
Can I select a combination of all four (except I don’t think he’s mean an vindictive)?

Well perhaps you should. I see nothing weak in noting that empty vessels make the most noise. I was pretty sure at the time that the Butterfield / Johnson purchase was skewed and the later Chris Martin long contract seemed at odds with FFP but assumed the pro finance people knew what they were doing. Mel failed on that score .. big time. They were his people. He deserves criticism and vilification but a heck of a lot of folk didn’t care at the time ., they were greatful that Mel had seemingly deep pockets and cheered to the rafters. I haven’t the will to sift through 4 years of posts … but they know who they are ! And I’d bet some of them are crucifying Mel right now.

Yes, and I was on board despite reservations and unease over loads of things. He sounded measured, responsible, wealthy. It all looked good. Somewhere along the way the financial advice he was taking was wrong .. but that’s no excuse. He employed these people, he was the pro businessman. It’s right that he is hammered, in part I suspect because he made enemies with bigger guns than he had.
But bottom line, I still feel he was doing what he thought was his level best within a budget and terms he’d written for himself. He failed on a grand scale .. can’t escape that.

I just feel sad for all of us but blame game is pointless

It’s a post mortem .. I am not really interested and the past
what happens next is the most critical thing
I seems reasonably certain on the basis of this that we will get -4 for the FFP and -12 for the admin (if it happens) so -16 If I understood it all
After that it rather depends what other suspended or yet to be found “crimes” that the EFL want to stick on us and if they will come all at once or we get hit again next season.
None of this matters at all unless administrators keep us running and new owners step in. Until then it’s all fog and speculation

I barely remember him as a player but he was Saturday Morning - before my Granddad came to pick me up for the game.
He was like a favourite uncle, wit, knowledge, humour. I remember reading about his struggle with booze, such candid honesty. Waking up in a bomb site car park, seeing 6.00 on the car clock and not knowing if it was morning or evening. Sorted himself out. Huge strength of mind. Real football hero

If Derby ever managed to buy a player for less than they were worth the EFL would DEFINITELY investigate, because who would believe it possible?

honestly I have reached the point that the punishment doesn’t matter .. we will be wherever we land, right or wrong. The thing that’s toughest is not knowing. I also get the feeling we will end up with penalties that go on for 3 seasons. I see no integrity, rationale or proportion in any of that.
You broke the rules .. take your punishment. Correct.
But if the rules are so badly drawn that punishment is disproportionate and dribbled out for years it is as disgraceful as it is unsporting.
what is going to be interesting over the coming months is how many other clubs face sanctions and deductions. There is no way on earth that every other champ club is squeaky clean. Then what does a league table look like. It’s a farce.
