It’s interesting. Let’s contrast opinions, results, owners.
Fans get us out of league 1 asap
Clowes : get promoted but this aim is not necessarily within one season. We want to endure
Hull : gimme gimme gimme .. or else

How many of us were calling for Warne to be sacked because we didn’t make the play offs ? Yet how many of us are saying it’s harsh to sack Liam because he didn’t either ?
Results .. a bit of patience and we made it, they have to start again. Foolish in my mind as, whatever the finishing position they had an incremental improvement.
There are comments on this thread about itchy trigger fingers yet so many of us are just the same and will be again next season. For me, for at least the next 2 years, we don’t need to think about sacking a manager unless we are in danger of relegation and its force majeur . Building things takes time. Keep your powder dry.

Probably Cardiff where their centrehalf- Morrison? was giving it the biggun on line .  Smashed the s*** out of him and got 2 goals.

He wasn't sacked by Derby, he was the interim manager who they decided not to offer the permanent role to.

What a jolly way to make a living, writing meaningless pap that washes over the eyeballs.

I think there are very few 10 million payers in the championship other than those with Parachute clubs. We cannot and will not be competing with Parachute money. I suggest that there will be no signings above 1 million. There will be deals, trades, swaps, loans and hopefully surprise finds.

If the Adams conversation is all about the difference between 250k and 500k then we have an idea of the sort of funds we are going to be talking about.  If a business has a turnover of 30 million a wage bill of let’s say 20 million and an owner who wants it to more or less break you don’t need to be a mathematician to make a reasonable guess as to likely expenditure. Well that’s my deduction anyway

Apologies, I didn’t read the post you quoted. I still don’t necessarily think that wanting to spend £250k on Adams rather than £500k indicates how much we will spend. It’s been a while since we’ve freely spent frees on players, but going back to meeting club’s asking price at the first time of asking isn’t what I’d want to see us doing.
Adams has been excellent for us but he still is a player who has never proven himself above the third tier and isn’t wanted by his parent club. If we don’t spend £500k on him, then I don’t think it means we won’t/can’t spend £1mil on somebody else.

Probably one of the teams that played at the Baseball Ground. White shirts mixed with that pitch is going to leave the kits looking rather dirty.

Wimbledon in the late 80s early 90s had more "hard" players than most.
Even teams like Liverpool would have one...think souness or McMahon.

Don't think that's ever happened. We've had the odd player.....eg Robbie Savage with his ankle taps.....but a whole team of hard nuts? Not in my lifetime.....

But you do give Warne credit for the job he’s done this season?

    I repeat
    - record points
    - record away wins
    - joint record wins in a season for dcfc
    - best defensive record in the EFL

Yes? Or are the above just to be ignored

That’s an interesting view.  Ward got injured in the 3rd game of the season against Oxford, that’s why he wasn’t picked.  And he playing as a wing-back, his best position.  Wilson then played and by the time he was fit we’d also signed Nyambe and we’re playing with a back 4.

It’s complex isn’t it ? There will be new players to integrate and I suspect some variation in style tactics and a whole management learning curve with new pieces on the board. I anticipate a slowish start but just hope we get some wins early to keep the momentum you mentioned coming

So sad. I remember the peno shootout at old Trafford. A real gutsy player who seemed to have integrity.

The Joiners, his behavior, the gall to sue, the lack of humility ? Well may that’s life, survival or whatever we all have to do but he wrecked his name in my view. Pity. A courageous player on the field.

I think it is more than funds though; my guess is we will have a bit of money and some latitude but I am hoping the difference that will help Warne may is that we are Derby County … not Accrington Stanley. There just must be ambitious players who want the right stage every bit as much the big pay packet ?

    Ah, the great Richard Keogh.
I remember being ridiculed here when I said he doesn't look much of a captain to me. He was blaming others for his own mistakes, mostly Bogle, maybe because he was an easy target as a teenager. Blaming others is not a sign of leadership or being an accountable adult, never mind a captain. I don't want to piss off our supporters so I left it there, but in hindsight, you could say, there's a difference between blind support and support. What we are witnessing with the notts forest is blind support and I wish we never get there again.
Later we learned that being accountable is hardly his strength off the pitch either. With that night out he also showed how bad example and guidance he gave to younger players.
Just reflect on it a bit: Keogh whining and mutinying to Morris about Pearson. It's all just pure toxicity and such persons shouldn't be close to our team ever again. Big thank you for Clowes and his recruitment. No wonder I kept losing my love for the game.
Keogh was a decent Championship footballer though. Shame he wasn't much of an adult. Maybe as a pensioner, he can grow up now.

Interesting to hear him say he's flying over to Denmark and Netherlands to watch some players, think we need to be a bit more dynamic next season to get results. Genuinely intrigued to see what kinds of players he signs.

    Pinched from elsewhere.
This decision is based on the club failing to meet the 10-year security of tenure at their stadium, required for new teams applying to enter the EFL which was required by 1 March 2024.
The club requested a 10-year security of tenure from Gateshead Council. This was refused. The National League wrote to the council in support of the application by the club highlighting the impact on the club, its supporters, and the local community if the security was not given.
Unfortunately, the response received was not supportive of the club’s requirements and placed the club at risk of a refusal of membership to the EFL and therefore forfeiture of any right to participate in the play-offs.
Being a member of Gateshead Council could well be a rather precarious pastime at the moment!

The EFL will no doubt hide behind their usual "rules are rules... and the clubs make the rules" nonsense. Well, seems yet again that the rules are just plain daft. No common sense. Just about everything that comes out of the EFL, EPL and FA seems designed to make life for football fans worse and, with it, the game.

From what I've read of the situation National League teams have to apply for promotion to the Football League at the start of the league season which was accepted so the EFL and National League both knew of Gateshead's ground situation which I don't think has changed for years.
To just boot them out at this stage is just cruel. Why should there need to be a 10 year security on a stadium when EFL clubs for example aren't required to show an equivalent financial security for that long of a period.

It fascinates me that the gamble is the thing in the championship.  MM was the extreme example but so many owners are rolling the dice rather than building from foundations. I admit that I am a steady Eddy but that doesn’t mean risk averse, just that risks need to be calculated and have a back system if they go pear shaped.

Love ‘ academy fruitfulness’. (Sounds like John Keats.)
The recent chaos has forced us to pi$$ away the historic value of academy investment but DC seems to support the academy model.

For that model to be successful, the first team ethos needs to be aligned with it and its objectives. Cocu bought into this, it seems. Possibly unrealistic to ask Warne to focus on it in div 1, with such pressure on promotion. But now he’s succeeded in that I’d hope that promoting the academy and its products will form part of his approach. Good coaching of youngsters is a big part of this

I suppose the counter argument to that is our spell under Clough
We did everything right, we built slowly, we developed the academy, we spent what we made in sales, we had a bottom third budget in the division*… we were still losing £7,000,000 a year.

*just for comparison, the QPR Final team’s wage bill was less than half of last season’s
