This is what I thought Rooney felt about Sibley all along. Wayne knows a good player when he sees one. Sibley like every other player needs to fit in with what their manager wants if they want to play long term. It is always easier to modify the way he is playing when he is already getting games. Sibley wants to play for us. There is now a golden opportunity to make himself undroppable. He is very forward thinking and will prosper if he can score more goals. Whichever two out of Joz, Tom and Sibbo score the most goals will play the most games imo.

(All right ! Playground talk now ?

RR’s only passenger vehicle engine in the 60’s was their standard 6.7 litre V8 but allowing for the futuristic setting and the technology of the day I suspect it’s motive power would have been a high efficiency Gas Turbine.

Rover had one that worked and Howmet Corp had a GT racing car that was surprisingly effective.

You are a mine of information, Jono....what an engine guy.

  3. Just watched the game through again. A lot of potential in this squad. Experienced base is ideal for the younger players to prosper. Looks like Sibbo will give way to Tom but I would start with Sibbo.

Enjoyed watching that. Good to get different perspectives and more informal interaction of the players.

Interesting tactical meeting with Curtis Davies and Phil Jagielka with the management team.

And Jozwiak looks a lot happier than some are making him out to be!

Looks to me that Jag and Curtis have reorganised the defence by themselves. Everybody looked like they knew what they were doing all of a sudden.

I think this is all about negotiations, my thoughts are that they are negotiating a penalty that we will agree to not appeal as both parties want to put an end to this. I am expecting a 3-6 point deduction maybe some of it suspended based on failing to file accounts, little bit of FFP, failing to pay bills. Things put together that we will accept.

3 points now plus 3 points if we win the Prem. Half decent offer imo.

Couple things I found interesting about the game:

    • As expected Baldock helps stretch the game out which has a compounding effect on the rest of team making it easier to play
    • There was a nice balance with the attacking three midfielders today. Morrison was the only one who would drop deep (often very deep) whereas both Sibley and Jozwiak would stay high and narrow alternating between offering for the ball or looking to run beyond the backline. This had the great effect (combined with Baldock) that Sibley and Jozwiak often managed to get in a lot of space to turn and drive at the defence which I think is the major goal of what we are trying to do tactically.
    • There was a bit of a change in how we approached build up play and I think it's the major reason why Bird could flourish. As opposed to both DMs splitting, only Shinnie would pull into the left back slot and in fact Bird would often come more central than his starting position with Morrison often dropping into either side of him. What this meant was Bird saw a hell of a lot more of the ball and could open out onto his stronger foot more readily than when cramped up on the right. It also meant that we could limit how much off the ball was going into Shinnie. I think (but I can't be sure) a lot of this is because Jagielka can be relied upon on the ball on the right so doesn't need as easy an outball to the right off him and is comfortable stepping into that space with the ball. I think to compensate slightly for this Byrne was less forwards.

    Super post, brady1993.

The things that make me laugh now, was the baddies being “Boris and Natasha” with suitable Russian accents and Steve Zodiac treating Venus like a skivie, “make us a coffee honey”

We need a Jim Smith topic on Supercar, Fireball, Space City, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO and the rest. ?

    Lady Penelope's car was a V6.

I never missed an episode ?

As an aside, A few years back I bought a Ford Focus, It's number plates had 3 digits along with others and were XL5, I bought it for £900 in the hope of selling the number plate, Got the V5 back and on it it said "number plate can not be sold seperately", Also it had a lowered suspension, My drive was on a slope so when driving on and off i'd scrape the sills, A couple of moths later sold for £350...ouch lesson learned.

We all seem younger since we won our last game in 1066.

I really liked Venus in a prepubescent sort of way … and I wanted a hover bike. I got a scooter with a brake on the rear wheel that you activated with your heel … not quite as good somehow.

we clearly belong to the same era ?

Some Rams fans appear to have developed a sense of humour again since yesterday's win. Woohoo.

Very good Rampage, ??. Thorough, detailed and witty, as usual.  You get your first gold star anorak badge for research. When our Phil was born however ?.. the XK straight 6 was Jags pedigree. It is Jaguars version ofa Brian Cloughie Derby team Multiple Le Mans 24 hours winners. It starred in road cars from the XK 120, 150, and went on to power Inspector Morse in his MK 2 and then the E Type, (the first production car that could do 150 MPH and at less than half the price of a Ferrari ) It found its way in to the XJ6 towards the end of its days

On the track it was in the Beautiful C type and the king of them all , the magical D type .. iconic piece of motoring history

The XF was somewhere between a Ford and a Tata motors creation for a different world. Good engine, but Championship play off motor when compared to a Top 6 Premier league XK.

I haven’t even started on Ferrari’s Columbo V12. It’s basic block and head design didn’t change for 40 years. ..Don’t get me going ? … if you have ever heard a 4 cam 275 GTB at 7,000 RPM … it’s the crowd when we win the Prem

ooooh .. this might be just a bit off topic !

I had a Reliant Robin. I strapped a Jag V6 onto the roof. I got my mate to try it. I have not seen the car or my mate since. Apparently if I had used the straight 6 it would have had a similar effect. Haha. With such good acceleration you can not only go off topic but you can do it very quickly and none of the mods have a car that can catch you so no problem there. Haha just about to watch a rerun  of the game and keep an eye on Jag (...).

It is, I agree. There are that many Rooney out threads I find my self getting wound up with them all. I'm firmly with you in the "give Rooney a chance" brigade.

I posted my thoughts on this somewhere a while back and stand firm on it.

I like what he's trying to do. Would be better if he had players he wanted as opposed to those available in the bargain bucket.

Time will tell. I think he'll prove to be good.

Only if we look back and think it was the best.

Agreed. However, Shinnie wasn't responsible for the missed chances so no blame attached to him and re your point about better players - yes please but we are a struggling Championship club and if we had those better players then come the end of the season we'd probably be in the automatic places.

Would be nice. I was pretty much saying that everyone did very well last night. They played as a team, they worked very hard, they kept calm in their shape, looked confident and showed determination to win the game. Some of these factors have been missing, especially during last season.

You say that but of the two of them Bird has been the better defensively this season. His positioning is a lot better and he doesn't get drawn out position in the same way. Personally I wouldn't necessarily punt for Morrison and Bird as a two as it could have problems defensively but so would Morrison-Shinnie because Morrison is an attacking player who drifts around and liable to not get his positioning right in defensive areas. I have doubts about getting rampaged through but the flip side is you get rampaged through a lot less if you don't give up possession cheaply in dangerous areas.

Honestly Shinnie is a completely different player than Eustace. People view Shinnie as a Eustace with legs but really he's better tackling worse attacking Bryson. Eustace was excellent at being in the right place at the right time, screening the back four and generally marshalling space all whilst being reliable in possession. Shinnie's main strength is energy and going out to harry players, he's a ball winner rather than a holding midfielder. To be honest there are very few things I'd consider essential in football it's all about trade offs with player's qualities. Do they bring enough X to make up for Y and for my money Shinnie is falling shy in that regard right now. As an aside I do think Shinnie's physicality is somewhat overstated; he's garbage in the air and is pretty easy to disposses shoulder to shoulder and if you want a very controversial take Bird is becoming a more physically robust player than him......

The only way I see we could have done better last night was taking more chances or having better players doing the same roles as last night and so eliminating errors which would have been punished by better teams than Hull.

Proper Jags were straight/in line  6’s ( with 3 twin choke carbs) 3.4/3.8 or later on 4.2 litres

    I’ll get my anorak ?

Quality input Jono as always but yes, get your anorak please.
