I think I'd rather have played well and gone out. More cup games do us absolutely no favours.
Instead we've played crap and scraped a replay. Worst of both worlds.
Did we play crap?
Completely dominated but couldn't score until late on....our problem,as ever,is out forward line against teams that sit in the box.
We need a new centre forward in January (no s*** Sherlock)

You bloody beauty!!!!!

Great strike by Mendez....

How many times have we seen this when we play teams who sit deep, pack their box and play on the break?
Warne has got to find a way to get around this because it's how every bloody team in league 1 (and clearly league 2) play.

I knew that when my lad was young,I was forced the watch the bloody "night garden" on TV every single day and it became part of my bloody waking consciousness (I still hate that thing that endlessly pushed stones around in a pram)
Perhaps warne suffered the same fate with his kids watching Disney 24/7! 🤣

He will make life easier for himself by stringing a few successive victories together. When was the last time we won 2 league games on the bounce? March perhaps?
I still feel like he doesn’t have any tactical know how. We really need to be giving Barnsley a good game next Saturday. If this was his first season I may have thought the same but we went on a 17 game unbeaten run last season,so presumably they do have some ability to produce suitable tactics.

I watched it. The crowd were fairly quiet you should have shouted a bit louder kash.
We played football on the deck under Rosenior. There was an abundance of possession across the back at times and I wasn't his biggest fan. But after more than a year of Warne we are back to where he started.
You watched it on TV.....nothing wrong with that but you would appreciate the sound and atmosphere if you had attended the game live...I remember you saying you haven't been to a game in a long time.
It's hard to judge via a monitor.
You may even have enjoyed it,it was a nice change to some other games this season and that made it all the more enjoyable.

There's a good selection of grub at derby nowadays, they are spread out amongst the separate buying areas however,so very easy to miss if you traditionally stick to your closest serving area.
Shame they don't just get a local baker like birds or Stacey's to do the food throughout the stadium tho, having some decent fresh cobs or sausage rolls etc would be great and good for the local economy.

We weren't playing like that when warne took over Roy,all we did under rosenior was play side to side, endless pointless passing football, this was nothing like that.
Last night's performance was a vast improvement to that style.
Swift and accurate passing, the ball going through the middle as well as the wings and 4 lovely, technical finishes.
You would have enjoyed it if you had been there,I did and I've been a critic of our gameplay not being slick or enjoyable enough.
Credit to warnes management team where it's due,the changes last night were effective and there was a lot of attractive football on display.
Let's hope it continues.

A genuinely excellent performance tonight,we looked like a team from the league above against Northampton.
Great movement and aggression and some lovely touches and control throughout the team.
And,what a lovely set of goals, all well crafted and taken.
I was especially impressed by Washington tonight, every ball stuck to his feet and he looked full of confidence.
I actually enjoyed that very much tonight.
Hopefully the start of the revival.

also I don't think Warne would've signed NML as remember someone saying he had a chequered past
I do believe team spirit and good personalities in the changing room are important but I've also played myself in teams where there were players who were not as sociable as others and kept themselves to themselves but were very good players and done the job on the pitch.
As far as recruitment goes lets be honest here Rosenior signed some top players for this level , players I don't think PW would've got to sign
* Rooney was the reason rosenior was able to sign those players*
And then he f***** off

Would you really go from top six in the Championship to League One?
He’s apparently on Bristol City’s three man shortlist and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on the radar of a number of bottom half Championship clubs.
Well warne was 7th in the championship with Rotherham when he was persuaded to join us.

He’s on borrowed time clearly. I think the only way he saves his job is he needs a decent winning run now. Lose or draw Northampton pressure will grow that coupled with being knocked out by Crewe which is a dangerous tie for us then it will be curtains. He needs to win both these home league games and start picking up points away he does that he might last to January and then see how it goes.
Assuming he does go, Clowes must think carefully about where we want to head as a club, style of football, academy etc, we need a clear strategy and we need to stick to it and recruit managers in line with that strategy. There are some decent managers out there but we need someone who can build something. I’d have had Warnock to the end of the season to give Clowes the chance to figure out the future strategy but ship looks like it’s sailed on that one.
Options:
Carsley - probably unrealistic but would love him here. Decent record as a caretaker and done good job with England U21s but he’s always preferred academy coaching and turned down opportunities to be a permanent manager in the past. He’d be my no 1 choice though.
Eustace - everyone seems to be mentioning him, not sure has been highly regarded for a while.
Rowett - Some will scoff at this but Snakes football IMO wasn’t that bad (playoff semi aside), he has a proven record of building things on a budget, he laid the foundations for Burton, and did an excellent job at both Brum and Millwall with limited resources. I think he would be a safe bet to not only get us promoted but get us to top half championship in next 3 seasons. Would he lower himself to league 1 and would he want the pressure/focus of the Derby job again, maybe he would now presumably his kids have grown up.
Luke Williams - Risky appointment but plays good football and is one the most highly regarded coaches in the EFL right now. Wouldn’t mind seeing him here.
If we could find the next Kieran McKenna then great. Would be a risk.
If we want nostalgic appointments potentials could be Simmo, or Chris Powell.
Chris Wilder i wonder if he’s a busted flush. Same with Steve Bruce, the latter definitely fits the Jim Smith profile maybe with one last successful gig still in him, but we were a much better team at the time smithy came in than we are now.
Christ, not rowett...I hated every minute of him being our gaffer.
I think that came from resenting that he replaced Mac,completely needlessly and had an accent that could sour milk.
Plus the football was horrible and I think we could go with a change from that.

I had no interest in either....warne wasn't even on my radar and roseniors football bored me to death and appeared to be completely ineffectual.
It's a shame that Mac had just gone to Man utd as I really do think that as a long term manager and coach he would still have been the perfect fit.

because it was in its infancy! it needed time... time he never got...but lets give Warne time to turn us into a real L1 side eh!
Both Rosenior's and Warne needed time to implement there game, one has had enough time for me and I also know which one was better to watch
I wouldn't say either were good to watch, both boring in their own pointless ways, neither of which produced a great deal of goals.

How many had already bought season tickets, 21k? They are counted whether they turn up or not - there looked to be big gaps in the crowd.
Well it's capacity is 32 or so,so there will be gaps....
And Exeter brought very, very few fans so the home crowd figures were excellent in the circumstances.
I believe the cub doesn't automatically include the 21k season ticket holders every match in the figures Roy 🤣

I think that the problem comes when the unhappy supporters do decide to stay at home.
Dwindling gates under 20,000 will become reality unless something changes soon.
Over 24k turned up on a Tuesday night, even after Saturdays poor performance....I think you underestimate the fans resilience.

Completely dominated but couldn't break them down until the 89th minute...they scored on the two breaks they had.
We spent too much time crossing into their box because they gave us no space in the middle.
