How is the 22/23 wage bill at all relevant to the squad that they've had this season? Typical Maguire.

I was with you until your last paragraph.
I'd rather reinvigorate the cup competitions than invent the NBA play offs (the NBA invented a cup this last season) and absolutely no to relegation play offs, they'll just end with teams who proved they should go down over a whole season having a get out of jail card.
I do agree with scrapping FFP as it currently exists. My thoughts are along the lines of controlling a clubs debt, as it's debts rather than spending that gets clubs in trouble.

He wasn't sacked by Derby, he was the interim manager who they decided not to offer the permanent role to.

    Very true.
I remember Uncle Colin larking about with the Bluebird Boys in the snow on the PP car park, (Back in the days when it proper snowed... and I mean "PROPER"!) and when I offered him my sledge, he went down that really long steep hill down to Costco, before making me drag it all the way back up again.  He said it was the most fun he'd had since moving to Cardiff.
    "I don't doubt that, Colin", I replied.
Oh, how we laughed... before he said "Who the duck is Colin?".
Turns out, he was actually christened Neil, due to his Aztec ancestry.  Who knew!
    Ah... Happy days.

I think we can all agree that although some older heads are necessary - ultimately where we are paying for players we need to ensure they’re of an age whereby they’re a prospective investment. The problem under Mel was that we would sign 27-28 year olds on long-term deals and by the time they were coming to an end of said deals they barely had any resale - mostly because they were s****, but we really didn’t give ourselves a chance as we signed the wrong demographic (usually).

Not sure of the relevance of the total wage bill of the club to how well Warne has done?

Considering letting Sibley or Thompson go is madness IMO. Sibley's versatile, and experienced in the Championship. Thompson played in the Championship and has improved significantly since then. Both young, home-grown talents, that we should be making the most of, not discarding.
    For my money:
    Loans end: Bird, TJJ
    Release: Loach, Hourihane, Waghorn, Gayle
    1 year deal/coaching role: Forsyth
Extend: Wildsmith, Smith (1 year), Sibley, Thompson, Barkhuizen, Collins (1 year)
Extend & Loan Out: Robinson, Fapetu, Weston
    Sign: Adams

Nobody is saying we were poverty stricken. And before you accuse me of doing this by using the word "shoestring", let me just clarify that I used that word simply to describe the small amount of money we had to work with and the balancing act the club had to go through to sign a player: CBT being the most obvious example of this. Fornah and Kane Wilson two others.
Our budget, even under restrictions, was almost certainly competitive when compared with the division as a whole. I'm sure Cheltenham Town and Bristol Rovers would struggle to match us ever with the EFL looming over us.
But we certainly weren't in a position to splash the cash either, were we?
Other teams were managing to beat us to the signing of players because they could pay fees that we couldn't. Warne even acknowledged this when speaking about a striker that had joined a rival (believe it was Lang going to Portsmouth?).
You're trying to make out that we had money to spend and just chose not to. I don't think that's true or even fair.
The wider point of this whole discussion though is around whether Warne and the club did an impressive job recruiting this season with those restrictions in place. I think they did.
You don't seem to want to engage in that discussion, but instead you would rather play the role of an English teacher marking an exam paper, dishing out big red crosses for the use of terminology you find "erroneous"
I've agreed with many of your points over the season on Warne and his style of play, but it's starting to feel now like you are just entrenched in a position of constant criticism of him that isn't particularly fair.

At the start of the season, I thought with the restrictions we had in place , that the play offs would be a good season, Warne thought differently and got the job done by getting us automatic promotion , as for coaching, defensive best in the EFL for goals conceded, scored from set pieces and defended set pieces the best I have seen a Derby team do for years, I have great belief that we are moving forwards as a club and a team, half way in the champ next season would be a good season, then lets build on it the season after, I enjoyed this season, and that is thanks to David Clowes for saving us and Paul Warne for getting us back to the championship . Once A Ram Always A Ram.

As I said earlier in this thread, the wage bill is probably that high due to the contracts of players not signed by Warne, so I’m not sure it’s fair to use that against him.
Think your second sentence is pretty knowingly unfair, too. You know as well as I do that there were still restrictions on spending; restrictions that have now been lifted!
I’ll say it again: there are areas that you can rightly criticise Warne on, but this surely isn’t one of them!

They may have been lucky in that respect, and good for them and especially for the Bellinghams. However they were completely without restrictions. Their owners screwed up big time. Their choice of manager meant that 3 separate managers whose individual records would have kept them up completely ruined their season. The players although they possibly achieved what was expected of them or more under those three managers, basically downed tools under Rooney. The owners and the players have been relegated because they deserve to be.
The fans follow the team through choice. They don't have a divine right to success. We fans have suffered relegation through the team not being good enough. I never, and indeed never heard anyone else, asked for sympathy because we had been relegated. We took it on the chin when we got eleven points in the Prem. As I said, no sympathy whatsoever for their relegation. I bloody love it though that they have been. I hope that they spend the next five years trying to get out of the 1st Division. Their fans for their "sympathy" towards our plight can suffer that 💩 league and I'll delight in each year they spend there.

I'm working my way through the highlights from every game at the moment - it's amazing how everyone does something through the season. Fornah's great run and cutback to NML for the late winner against Bristol Rovers (getting us 2 extra points), Wash's goals against Burton, Northampton and Exeter, Bark's scoring glut over Christmas (4 goals), TJJ bagging 3 points against Port Vale, Gayle scoring 3 in 5 and netting us 9 points, Thommo's goal against Oxford helping turn around a 0-2 deficit....

Fortunately, we beat 22 League 1 clubs in the only metric that matters.
And yet, here we are again having a debate about Warne's coaching ability one week after those scenes against Carlisle......
