Forget the Reading game, forget what happened to Forest, those were 2 out of form teams trying to grimly hang on to 6th place. This is an in-form team riding high in 2nd with 1 defeat in 10 and only 4 goals conceded. No comparison.

Most away wins in a season, most points in a season, a promotion (we hope) and getting the best defender in the league to sign a new long term contract in his first full season. All of this with very little spend and spotting some gems in the rough (Adams and Wilson).

When we talk about the success under Jim Smith or Clough, we rarely talk about style but the results they had. If we go up this year I think Warne will be remembered in 10-20 years for the results he achieved.

This. I truly thought we were going in admin. Everyone always says it'll take a big club to go before anything changes and I thought we were it. Added to that the terrible stuff we were going through with my dad's dementia (his first awful episode was the night we went into admin) and it was really rock bottom.  Have felt quite emotional many times at PP since Christmas because of what going up represents and it hit me again yesterday at the game esp as Camb away was first match dad took me to. I cannot imagine what it feels like for David Clowes and his family.

I dont care if other teams mock us if we do go up and celebrate it as if we've won the champions league as its not just the promotion and until it happens to their team in the same way they will never understand.

That’s the position I am in. I was ‘around’ for the promotion in 96 but too young to remember or appreciate it. And although I’ve technically been to the BBG, too young to appreciate it again.
For those who witnessed previous successes, I have nothing but jealousy. But for people like me, my entire experience of Derby County has been misery, disappointment and heartbreak. Where I grew up, it was all Premier League clubs, nobody even supported the ‘nearest’ professional team because Plymouth was still too far away. I’d go into school on sports days in my Derby County shirt, and get laughed at by those wearing United, Liverpool or Arsenal shirts.
To experience success, an outpouring of joy and probably relief,  at Pride Park, is going to be special.
I’m sure lots of people here have other interests outside of football and Derby County, I don’t really. I’m not really into other sports, for me football & this club is everything. Since Covid really, it’s been hard. From not being able to go to watch, to then being plunged into administration & feeling like we were kind of Death Row waiting for the inevitable was very, very hard.
We’re going to do the job on Saturday and I can’t even begin to imagine how good that’s going to feel.

He strikes me as being a volatile character, capable of astonishing lapses in concentration but also brilliant saves.
His unpredictability is probably the thing which has held him back.
Some of his kicking today was unfathomable but his one-handed save was instinctive and impressive.

His form has been abit up & down at times this season but as it stands he has the joint hightest number of clean sheets in the league, he is joint with Jensen for Lincoln but Wildsmith has played 5 less games.
So a clean sheet vs Carlisle (or Jensen conceding for Lincoln) will mean Wildsmith gets the golden glove this season which is a very good achievement for him & us.

Can you imagine what that season would have been like if we'd had social media/this forum?!
'Smith out' after four matches with only two points.
'John Harkes is stealing a living.'
'Why is he playing 3-4-1-2? That's never been done before, so must be bad'
All those draws in Jan and Feb would have created an intense debate whether it was good to keep the unbeaten run going or two points dropped.
The feeling on the way home from Tranmere was so strange - we'd been thrashed but I'd seen a football god playing in the second tier and for little old Derby.
Anyway that's enough reminiscing. Let's create some more memories next week. COYR

Exactly. Anyone who accuses us of being tinpot because we’re celebrating finishing 2nd in league one (baring a disaster on Sunday) needs to be reminded that it’s more than simply promotion we’ll be celebrating. The club, and its supporters, have been to hell and back over the last couple of years and this will be the first chance we’ve had to celebrate anything. Even the last day survival against Sheffield Wednesday was in the Covid year.
OK, so we’ve not won the cup, we’ve not even won the league 1 title so let’s not get too carried away with open bus tours or anything but let’s celebrate the moment.

oh, and if you do go on the pitch, can we please find a way to still allow the players and their families to do their lap of appreciation?
Although the club probably felt they had to publicly ask supporters to stay off the pitch, if it does happen, perhaps after a short period of time, they could announce that if those on the pitch would return to the stands the players would do their lap (advising the players in advance that this is the plan if there is a pitch invasion)?
Such an announcement might encourage those still in the stands to hang around as well.

I do think that Paul Warne will fall in to the category of you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.

Fair enough tactically there’s a question mark and in the transfer market there’s a smaller question mark (Adam’s and Gayle) have bought him back some credit. But his interviews are interesting in my opinion. Much rather listen to Warne waffle than the usual media trained cliches.
Warne has also clearly changed the culture in the club. We were suffering an admin hangover when he came in. Now we’re 1 point from promotion with admin far in the wing mirror. The players seem to love him as well.

Assuming the nightmare scenario doesn’t occur next week I suggest everyone enjoys the promotion, sips or chugs a beverage of their choice and enjoy the summer.

Warne may not be a tactical genius, or have the wherewithal to train a team to play the technical possession game which is most desired these days. However, I do think he's a great coach when it comes to man management and creating a positive club culture and that cannot be disregarded. Obviously you want a coach who does both, but Klopp ain't gonna drop down to Derby's level, lads. Maybe I'll change my opinion in 6 months time, but (for now) I'm happy to have a man at the helm who is trying to create a happy working atmosphere around a club which nearly dissolved 18 months ago and wants to bring in players who have a good attitude.

David Clowes rescued our club and appointed a manager who he believed would get us promoted back to the Championship.
It looks like that bit has been done barring a ridiculous turn of events.

What happens next? Lets leave it to David Clowes to continue to make good decisions, He's doing ok so far.

I’d argue his Rotherham spells indicate very much that he can get more out of players as his promotion seasons from league one all coincided with “bigger, better resourced” clubs (the likes of Bolton, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Sunderland) being in the league and yet he got plucky ol’ Rotherham up into the championship at their expense.
It’s also clear that he’s not then done the business when he gets to the championship, that could be down to his ability as a manager/coach, it could be down to resource.
We will recruit in the summer, there are a number of players out of contract and loan players who will return to parent clubs. For every “duff signing” some folk will be at pains to point out, he’s also shown he can pick a player with the likes of Adams, Nyambe, Nelson, Ward and Wilson all looking like good additions.
He’s earned a crack at the championship with Derby, provided we get there, but as I’ve said many times before…if we’re struggling when we’re in that league and fans turn then he’ll likely be shown the door, so these statements about being bottom 3 or bottom 6 and going down with him as he’s not a top coach almost feel like hollow hyperbole to me.
He’s the manager for now, he’s probably won promotion, he’ll probably get a crack and if it’s not working he’ll be replaced and maybe they’ll do better.
How did Watford and Hull get on in the end?

It might surprise you to know that most of us know we have certain aging players in the autumn of their careers. You don’t need to be a genius to realise that going up a league will mean we need reinforcements and replacements. Are you after another medal for stating the obvious. ?

Your posts seem to have particular themes .. this is one of them : State the obvious like it is some revelation that the rest of us have never even considered. So condescending. Pssst quite a few of us have been around a while, played the game and watched it at many levels over a lifetime
Alex Ferguson once said .. The first rule of intelligence is to remember the other guy isn’t stupid.

Funny you should mention Bielsa when Warne is criticised for running the players into the ground.
Anyway, you're comparing managers that have much longer CV's and been at clubs where the base level of player has been better than what Warne has had at Rotherham to work with.
By going up, we are entering new territory with Warne having a club of this size to manage, we are not Rotherham.
I just can't understand the eagerness to write him off as being this incapable fool, surely the bloke deserves a little respect and a chance to manage this club in the Championship and prove his inabilities?
You went from this team wouldn't stay up, well duh, shifting it to his inability to get the best out of players whilst we're 1 point away from achieving promotion.
Feels like you've just set out to moan and piss on peoples chips on a day where we have moved to within a point away from promotion, no matter how much you may dislike or not rate his abilities, the timing is just bizarre, why can't we just sit and enjoy the moment instead of playing Nostradamus.
Whilst it might not be promotion to the Premier League, it's still a promotion and a significant one at that, if you can't just sit back, crack open a beer and enjoy it, I don't know why you bother with the game. It's not often we will have moments like this where the club has achieved something.
FA Cup, League Cup? Not a chance, the only other things we have left are promotion to the Premier League and Premier League survival, now in a week where the FA and PL have colluded to F the football pyramid over, to think the only time we can celebrate will be when we join that lot is s sad state of affairs.
And that's coming from someone that's desperate to see us back in the Premier League as well.

No promotion at this club in 17 years (over half my lifetime btw, I was in primary school) and you’re sat here posting that we need to be better next season, cheers you bloody football genius

Not sure why this ever needs to be said.
How many football clubs have been promoted and not made a single signing?
We have players out of contract, Bird and other on loan players that will return to their clubs, what this exact team could do in the Championship is not worth even thinking about as it isn't going to happen.
