Wsm-ram reacted to Ellafella in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
The clue as to what might happen was always in the title "INTERIM..." so there was always a plan to REVIEW and the Board have decided to appoint an alternative. Looks and sounds like logical and calculated stewardship to me not "...David Clowes playing Football Manager."

Very strange. I think he's done a decent job. If Warne is available, obviously you can't look past a manager with such a proven track record of getting a team promoted, but it's tough on Liam.
If Liam wanted to take a step back and does want to stay at the club then that's another thing. We can only be very grateful for his service to our club during these most tumultuous of times. I honestly just want the best for him and his career at this stage, maybe this will prove to be it? I don't know.
How we go about getting Warne from Rotherham is a completely different story, but I'm sure we don't make this move without some form of deal in place.

Better than expected for me to. At the same time, incredibly frustrating. Having been a home and away fan in the 80’s I know what is involved. The away “statistic” isn’t just a statistic- it’s firm evidence that the approach is wrong & needs changing. LR needs to understand that and not just harp on about being more clinical. Look at the evidence and put it right.
I think we have plenty to work on and we have a good amount to improve and I think we will improve. We need though to score more at home as well as away. I’d like to see us control a game for 90 minutes and win with some comfort - thus far it’s been fingertips stuff and yesterday but for Wildsmith’s 92 minute save it would’ve been a draw.
Id like to see us below the radar until January then get into a strong canter and string a series of wins together to gain a solid 4th or 5th place play-off spot. We won’t win the League but we are a good bet for play-offs.

I hope it works for LR and Mr Clowes - both deserve success. To LR I’d say don’t over-think it, get the team to enjoy the game, change the defensive approach and be a tad more experimental and bold.

Better than expected to be honest.
We all know what state the squad was in back at the start of July without repeating it, the recruits were better than I initially expected yet I still couldn’t buy into the idea we would walk League 1.
I thought we would be around 17th, 18th now and hopefully starting to look like a team as we near Christmas, best case scenario pushing for a play off place.
Being Derby County, having 2 league titles in the cabinet with an FA cup and 30,000 seater stadium doesn’t count for anything in this league, all my expectations have been based on the situation and the time it takes to build a team. You can sign 22 players in a matter of weeks, ask Cooper, yet building a team on and off the pitch takes time.
To be sat 7th, level on points with 6th, 7pts off top is incredible really in my opinion and if this is the start of the journey, I think we may not be down here for as long as I first feared.

Has to start to realise that this passing around the back isn’t working, we just look scared to do it, we mess up the fans get on the backs and we struggle all game, we also need to change up the midfield because it really isn’t working

People forget that we’ve been absolutely awful playing away for 3 years playing this style of football - nothing will change until we stop playing this style of football in away matches.
it hasn’t worked in the past, doesn’t work now and will never work in the future !!!
it’s very simple really, the manager needs to change the style of football, or we need to change the manager,,,,,,, it’s that simple !!!!

LR's "philosophy" isn't really working . I'm not advocating a sacking...but we need LR to try a different approach; learn quickly, and adapt. We have sufficient quality to re-form. We need a better engine and that engine starts with Knight in midfield. It's starting to look like stubbornness now.

Take us back to basics, 442, collins and mcgoldrick, bird and knight im midfield. This is shocking to watch. You can forget about promotion of this away form continues. We’ll be lucky to survive in the league this season if half the games we can’t get any points.

We lost the midfield because we were no longer pressing from the front, or driving forward with the ball throigh the middle after McGoldrick came off.
It should have been Sibley and Dobbin coming on for McGoldrick and Barkhuizen

Bring Jake back off the bench when you are defending a lead.
We brought on slight and/or forward thinking players with no game management skills

I think there might be a case for young Rooney at DM. Max is better further up the pitch anyway and Jake, despite his youth is a promising public convenience made from the best bricks.

Well that’s been coming at home - we concede far too much of the central midfield especially at home and have done in every home league game this season. I honestly don’t think Bird and Hourihane are a good combination as they are both very sluggish mobility wise.
we will continue to see opposition teams swamp midfield and control that area at Pride park
If we are to continue to mess about with the ball at the back it has to be with a meaningful purpose and we seem to only encourage the opposition
    we missed Smith today

Disappointing loss that. Poor subs cost us imo. Dobbin should have been on for Barkz, Sibley should have been on for Didzy. It all became a mess after those subs. I agree that Conor didn’t play well and Rooney on to help shore up the midfield would have been the better option.

It felt like Liam just wanted to give some minutes to Tommo some minutes and get the the new kid on for his debut rather than managing the actual game in front of him.

Plymouth were very good, apart from when we pressed them high up the pitch. Thought we actually started the second half well, for the first time this season, and could have been 3 up with better decision making from Mendez-Laing and McGoldrick. Then they scored and Rosenior seemingly panicked. The subs were crap and played directly into Plymouth's hands. McGoldrick didn't look like he needed to come off but if the plan was for him to just play an hour, Sibley should have come on for him, not to play on the wing. Bringing Thompson on was so negative, he's in really poor form and it just invited them on to us.

Knight 2 year deal v v close, doesn’t want to leave and is 100% committed to the project LR has put forward to him. Bird in new contract talks too. Told he’s eager to stay too. Unsure how far along his talks are. Best news this window of it happens

No, but it seems to be apparent that Coventry have been interested in Sibley for a bit and there due to lose Hyam so will have funds and Burnley for Knight has been doing the rounds all summer.  Mike Ashley has been round at David Clowes house a few times .  That's concrete from a source I have who's very reliable .  Bit odd but there you go.  Additional investment maybe.
