For me it’s more the way we are playing - the way we keep making the same mistakes as last season etc

Wasn't McGoldrick injured for a lot of games at the start of the season? I ssem to recall us dominating play but Collins having an inability to find the net.
I thought it was a mistake to get rid of Rosenior at the time, our current league position and performances only seem to confirm that indeed it was.

We did play good football. Against Charlton, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury away we created numerous chances. Lincoln away was only the really poor one that stands out. It happens. We were crap against them at home under Warne.
Interesting that of Rosenior’s nine games in charge, we played 7 top half sides.
And our last game was a 2-1 win over Wycombe where we battered a fellow playoff challenger. Will we ever see such stats against a fellow playoff challenger under Paul Warne?

Having Derby County in 7th place in League One is clearly something no manager should survive.

Funny that. I thought that we were in 7th place, only just outside the playoffs and playing good football as opposed to pub football.
LR had only around 10 games and a very small transfer window. PW has had getting on for a full season on charge and 2 transfer windows.

Funny how some seem to think Rosenior played good football here. Pass, pass, pass, pass, lose ball, concede goal etc etc
Zero goals and points from the first 4 away games last season wasn’t it?

    This.
We were creating a huge amount of chances but we just couldn't get them all converted. We were top of the xG charts and top in big chances missed. We scored 0 goals from 5.5xG away from home. We would've been absolutely fine last season if we stuck with Rosenior, you could tell the attacking patterns were fine and we weren't conceding many chances (think we were 3rd best xG against).

You think people demand elite level football? After watching Warneball for 11 months, I crave for the days of Rowettball, never mind what we had under Mac. I firmly stand by my belief that Rosenior would have eventually got us playing a lot closer to Mac than where we were when he left.

Collins finishing cost Rosenoir his job. Missed 5 good chances in those 3 away games.

I think it was Lincoln away that did for him & we were poor that night. Unfortunately for Liam, we hadnt converted dominance into goals in the previous 3 away league games (Charlton, Shrewsbury & Fleetwood) and so the narrative of us being impotent away from home was born. Richie Barker even made reference to it in an interview pre-Bolton...brass neck of him to come out with that & then deliver that garbage yesterday.
Rosenior leaving felt at the time & still does as a massive missed opportunity. I don't necessarily think we would've gone up last season but I think the foundations would be much stronger than they are now. Possession based football takes longer to implement (certainly more than the 8 games he got) but has a much higher chance of long term success. He also had connections higher up the pyramid (which he leveraged to bring in quality players) & an obvious affinity with the youth ranks. He was the man to help rebuild the club on the pitch.
Instead we brought in Captain Pinball, with all the fanfare about his 'promotion record' only to spend the last 12 months being finger-wagged that we shouldnt expect promotion & how he always needs another 6 months from the point at which he is questioned. We've gone backwards since Sep 2022 & that is a damning indictment on his appointment.

The way I see it, there are 2 completely separate aspects at work here.  Do I like what Warne is doing, and do I think he can be successful doing it.  I think it's obvious to everyone that's read my posts where I stand on the first - I think we should make the ball ours and it should mostly stay on the grass until we decide to kick it in their goal.  But I absolutely accept that there are other ways of playing. I didn't like the way Rowett set his team up, but he was reasonably successful because he set his team up well, recruited to fit it etc.  He had a sensible plan and executed it fairly well.
Regarding Warne, obviously I don't like the way he wants to play football.  I want to see us having the ball, controlling the game, dictating it ourselves rather than focussing on trying to stop them etc.  But beyond that, I do not believe that his particular type of gas-out football can be successful at higher levels, you can't just work harder, you have to work smarter.  You can probably get it to work at this level if you have good players (i.e. better than most of the other teams), which we saw at times last season, and he obviously managed at Rotherham.  But at Championship level, you're facing teams with pots of prem money and good players who will rip holes in you if you let them.  We aren't going to have better players than most of the league, and we aren't going to be able to outrun them all over the course of 46 games.  I think we're trying to build something that just will not work at the levels we want to be at.  That's why I'm so anti-Warne, it's not just about not liking the way his teams play.  (And for clarity, I think his particular type of football is *very* different to both the solid, pragmatic Rowett/Warnock types and the gegenpressing that Klopp-type teams do.)
And even beyond that, we aren't even executing WarneBall very well.  We don't have the players for it, we don't seem to be able to recruit players for it, the academy isn't (wasn't!) developing players for it.
I think more than anything, he was absolutely the wrong appointment at the wrong time.  It's unfortunate for him (because I think he was parachuted into a situation where he was pretty much doomed to failure), and unfortunate for us, because we're quite possibly stuck with him.

The only reason we finished top half was because of DM's goals. Without him we would have finished nowhere.
The players brought in have made us weaker and 3 statuesque central defenders offers nothing.

I wanted him gone at the end of last season when we failed spectacularly from a comfy position to maintain play offs.

I regrouped and said let’s see what he looks like when he’s had a say in who we sign. We’ve gone backwards.

Honestly where do you see this going? Any decent young player who knows his way around a football sold and replaced by athletes?

I’ll eat humble pie in the event that I’m proved tragically wrong and he turns this around but Jesus I love Derby and his football makes me want to scratch my eyes out.

We need to be aiming to be a squad (predominantly when funds allow) of younger players who are all comfortable in the ball with a coach that improves the players so we can sell and reinvest alongside integrating good academy prospects. Instead we’ve got a coach who signs players based on how likely they are to beat Darren Moore for a header.

Keeping a bad manager is more expensive long term than the cost of appointing a good one.
We were rubbish towards the back end of last season and we are even worse now. We are getting slowly worse the longer he remains in the job.

Not laughing. There were times, admittedly few and far between, where Sammon displayed some exquisite skill and a great first touch.
The biggest problem he had was that somwhere along the neural path between his brain and his feet, there was usually a massive disconnect.

I seem to remember Connor Salmon (dont laugh) beating up Peterborough? They had two people on him, subbed at least one of them and still couldnt handle him.
Struggling with some specifics but definitely remember some players having truly great performances.
There were a few instances of Taribo (we're on a mission from God) West being a one man defence, and me going home claiming that one man will keep us up.
Didnt see live but listened to, Trollope v Man U 96-97. He walked (usually within 3ft of Cantona) so Wanchope, Sturridge et al could run that day.

I find it comical how quick everyone is to defend Warne. The denial of his faults is embarrassing, even if you're Warne in or out, people are making out him to be some God - he's clearly not.
It can't be denied his record against top half teams is diabolical.
We won 2/15 games under Warne against teams in the top half of the table. That's awful. Rosenior won 3 in more than half the games.

Whilst I’m grateful that we have a team one year later, I’m getting a little tired of that being continually pulled out every time a fan has a question on the absolute drab that’s being executed on the pitch.
The fact is Rosenoir bought some good players to the club. So we have, albeit small and albeit missing a couple of players in certain positions, but we have a good team of football players.
Therefore, I look at the current. The absolute dross that Paul Warnes tactics are delivering on the pitch are atrocious. Lumping it up but with no one in behind, playing into channels for either our none pacy strikers to chase or wingbacks who let’s be honest, we shouldn’t be wasting their time with defensive work, or the lack of imagination or creativity in our play.
The only reason I’m still supporting Warne is that he has specific tactics, he plays them and he he certainly doesn’t have the players to execute them. However, you’ve got to change your approach Paul. You need to work with the players you have, not with implementing a style which you don’t have players for. Show me you have the ability to do this.
However, I genuinely think that if anyone thinks we will get promoted to the Prem (one of the reasons Warne left Rotherham) plying his tactics is in cloud cuckoo land. It’s League One football and I can see, with the right players, how he could get out of this league but that’s it at most.
Right now though his tactics are costing us a League One play-off place. If we don’t get in the play-offs he’s failed as far as I am concerned.
I am not on the Warne out camp, I fail to see the value in constantly letting managers go and it’s too costly, but this season is certainly frustrating.
