Easy. Tried to buy Derby and it didn’t work, even tried buying Preston and it didn’t work. Then trying to buy Derby again but it’s still not working. His mouth is trying to cash cheques his wallet can’t or won’t cash. Venture capitalist hoping to make a fast buck.

It could. Though Mel was like the ideal fantasy, a genuine fan with money buying the club. A local ambitious owner. Incredibly rare in the modern game.
I think a large part of the anger is a feeling of betrayal, a disbelief that a fellow fan could do this much damage. Which also comes with people willing to still defend him because he is a fan. Hoodwinked.
A question that needs to be asked is do people think he is/was a genuine fan? Or was that just lip-service to get the fan base on board while he screwed things up behind the scenes?
personally, I don’t believe he was a fan, he sees the club like a business asset and nothing else, there’s no “right thing” to do because he doesn’t believe he’s done anything wrong. It’s just business

Yes why are people still sticking up for him?
For s***ts and giggles probably. Easy to get a reaction from some.
I’ve ended up muting so many other users on the back of this thread.

Could someone* not contact DCFC about that ticket office vacancy & ask about job security with all the very public going’s on around the club?
*not me though, I’m far too lazy.

Pretty much anyone in that season. I don’t get how a team could be that bad.

Twitter link above. Lots of great goals this season and some I’d forgotten about, including Bird’s beauty on his birthday.
My vote is Ravel’s goal against Barnsley though, build up and finish is sublime.- CBRammette and MickD

I’d li’e to think so, but I think he’s struggling to pay 35p in the pound to normal creditors, so I doubt he’d be able to settle all outstanding transfer debts.
What makes you think he’s struggling to pay this?

About 1 in 24 as things stand!
Must admit, I'm not fully understanding the optimism about an immediate return to the Championship, given that we have no idea what kind of team we will field next season.
Optimism for the reset; absolutely! Optimism for the adventure; 100%. Optimism that the Club WILL find its feet again; you bet!
But to bounce back straight away? We shouldn't even be thinking about that yet. Let's see what the summer brings first... then enjoy the ride no matter what!
Agree with all this. We have no idea what state the club will be in if the takeover is completed. We may not have the squad we have now and be an unknown outfit.
If we have to recruit the number Rooney & KC have quoted then it will take longer than one summer (if Rooney even gets that depending on other factors) to gel them together and play as a team. The start of our League 1 adventure could be made up of 11 individuals as opposed to the team Rooney wants. -
I disagree to an extent, I understand the principle but I can’t see any of the top managers agreeing to players they have no say in. They have to coach/manage them after all.

My overall view is that Mel is akin to this guy
He came to DCFC, speaking of riches he had earned elsewhere. And he proved it, he had us all dancing to his tune, believing he could fund the team to the promised land.
So we let him invest in us without looking too closely, he said all the right things and challenged the EFL and we all loved it. He spent the clubs money, with some of his own of course, and The Derby Way was created.
but then, too late, we saw the truth, the cracks on the rail. The money-pit he had turned us into with ridiculous dealings. He tried to save face, but unlike Lyle Lanley, Mel hasn’t just skipped town, he still wants his dirty fingers in our pie and some leverage of control over the nonsense he created.
maybe he never wanted the club, maybe he wanted to just own the stadium and nearly destroying DCFC was a calculated expense in doing so.

It was -21 points.
just take a moment to let that sink in. Let the absurdity of such a penalty, combined with the transfer embargo, just mellow in your mind.
The fact the boys and the backroom & all the staff even had us in with a chance of surviving is nothing short of phenomenal.
League 1 will be tough, but genuinely getting out of this shadow of admin, points deductions etc, could be the best thing for the club after the ship-show of the last few years. A line can (hopefully) be drawn and the club can move on.
It’s not how we wanted to get out of the championship, but heck it’s something different for a lot of supporters. League 1 could be fun, new away days, new opponents, a new competition.
Bring it on.

There are many decent players out of contract, alongside many who will want to play in front of 20,000+ fans every other week.
We have a great support, but do you really think we’ll continue to get 20,000+ at home in league one? I think it would take an effort from supporters groups akin to organising the march each week to keep that support going.
I’ve a horrible feeling as soon as relegation is confirmed PP will be empty without constant drumming up of supporters

It just seems that his personal wealth is kept a secret and if he stated last year in an interview that he is not a multi-millionaire, where is the money coming from. It must be other backers to be splashing that type of cash for Derby if it's true about him being only worth £5m.
Genuine question. Why do you care?

I’m nearly at the point of checking out if this particular thread.
we’ve been given some good news for a long time in our administration process, and some are bothered because he’s not as loaded as they want him to be?What does it matter if it stops us being liquidated? Mel was loaded and look how that ended! I’m not saying it couldn’t happen again but we surely we can’t be worse off under CK?
I know we’re not at the finish line with this yet, but don’t look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. We’ve been given the glimmer of a lifeline and let’s hope the deal gets done and there is still a Derby County FC, regardless of how loaded the people at the helm may be.

Does the club, the name, the history, the support not carry any value?

I genuinely couldn’t care less about being docked more points next season, which league we’re playing in, what CK may have tweeted some 10 years ago, or any of that.
I just want to still have a club to support when all is said and done. Everything else is noise.
