Gerry Daly reacted to Ambitious in January Reinforcements
At some point we’re going to have to come to the realisation that with so many players out of contract at the end of the season, and with Warne turning Derby into a short-term stop gap for footballers, we’re going to have a complete rebuild to build a culture within the dressing room.
How on earth can you have faith in Warne/Thomas/Pearce.. to oversee that based on their body of work up to now?

I'm generally an optimist but they can't dress this up, they really messed up. No point trying to blame any individuals. The club messed up

I dont want to say too much on the matter but if we manage to get into the championship this season expect him to stick around…

I love this signing for nothing more than this being a competency test for both our recruitment and coaching staff.
A player, who lets be fair, hasn’t proven anything beyond fourth tier in English football has been bought in and plays a position where we have five or six options already on the books, potentially 7 or 8 depending on how far down the list you want to go: Hourihane, Bird, Sibley, Thompson, Fornah, Smith, Radcliffe and Robinson. A position of the pitch where despite the quantity of players and individual ability there still causes us a problem with regards to balance.
The recruitment staff have essentially nailed their colours to the mast and essentially said we can highlight a player, out of favour, who isn’t proven at our level because we can see ability. This is a good case study for their ability to judge a player and not just going off a CV and availability - like with Bradley, Elder, Ward and so many others we’ve signed. If he turns out to be pony, then we know that the guys tasked with highlighting players couldn’t tell their arse from their elbow and get them promptly binned off.
Warne, despite the options available to him, has brought this player to the club to address the balance and make us a better team. Does his analysis, coaching and strategy all click on the basis of this signing? Is he going to be the dynamic piece we all hope for, or have we just signed another Springett? Can he make use of this signing, does he win his place, does he facilitate what Warne wants to do?
I have no idea, which is the exciting part, because I’m really keen to see how this one plays out.

Gerry Daly got a reaction from Spanish in Where do you think we'll finish this season?
Play offs. No way will we finish in the automatics. Then it’s a lottery but seeing how we are so great at winning crunch matches I’m not at all confident

They are getting one of the auto places for certain. Can we finish above Bolton and Peterborough for the other one? I wouldn’t bet much money on it would you?

We only go for players who can get to training on the bus, ideally with a bus pass.

I'm not too stressed about us bringing anyone in, honestly. It seems like we're struggling to highlight players who can make then team better and that's a concern. I'd love to see what Mark Thomas has been doing for the past 12 months - there is clearly a disconnect between him and Warne that needs addressing.
If we're waiting around to see what Michael Smith is going to do, like he's the only striker in the world who can improve us, then the whole recruitment strategy needs binning.

When you set aside all the argument, all the theory and just go with your gut feeling about Warne where are you at. We can see and feel the evidence for that collectively by the atmosphere in the ground and the length of this thread despite our league position

Really?
It always surprises me when someone says no to him.
We would have had at least 1 more premier league season under our belt had we got Warnock instead of Lampard imo.
His football might not be too dissimilar from Warnes. But Warnock knows the game, has far more contacts than Warne. And if he can make Sol Bamba a premier league footballer he is capable of anything.

In hindsight he's right, however few of us thought that at the time. I thought Clowes decision was correct at the time and for quite a while afterwards. Its this season really that I've changed my mind

So do I. I’ve accepted there is little point moaning about Warne because we are stuck with him, but I have no faith whatsoever.

Gerry Daly reacted to i-Ram in No midfield control again…
The team are not coached to have any control. Another midfielder will not help if Warne continues to employ the tactics he wants us to play football.
I say football. It’s pinball. Players must be being encouraged to move it as forward as quickly as possible, taking no more than 3 touches. Chaotic, gas out type football.
I thought we might go up with our squad automatically, even with him in charge. I am beginning to think not.

Collo for TJJ for me. They're playing a high line and I want to see someone playing off the shoulder and making runs behind. Someone who can beat an offside trap.

Gerry Daly reacted to North East Ram in BBG photos
Nice one Admira. I’m in the pic of Bobby celebrating one of his many goals in a 84/85 Centenary Bass top down the Normo end.
Bobby is all trademark thighs, popeye forearms and Magnum tache. And I’m a skinny little 10 year old jumping for joy in the Ossis Upper.
I’d been to the BBG in previous seasons (but can’t can’t remember the games) but those years in Div3 were my first season ticket, and the crucial barb that has still got me hooked to this day, 40 years later.
Kevin Wilson was a hero in the beginning. But Bobby was God soon after. And Arthur was the king. Still is.

I take it you're not going to the game then. There is one thing drawing attention to their plight, another disrupting a game in which fans have paid money, taken time off work etc...

I never slag Max off and can see he is a far better player than Sibley. This is something that a succession of Derby managers clearly agree with. But I agree with your other comments, if we played through midfield more often then anyone in a central 10 position could affect the game far more

Why can’t we all just be pleased we’ve signed a player for a fee, albeit a loan fee instead of analysing how it might or might be structured. Maybe it’s a legacy from mad Mel. We’re no longer run by someone who got a bit lucky in the IT world, we’re now run by, in my opinion, a sensible businessman.
Lets just enjoy it as another step on the road to being run like a “normal” football club.

Sibley has had plenty of chances in what you consider his true position. Saturday for a start. He's consistent in his performances
