We got promted from the champ to the prem with rowett, yates and stimac as a back 3.
what i will say is they were screened brilliantly by robin VDL and daryl powell.
we have nothing like that infron of our back 3 atm.
Going on yesterday Warne would play Powell pretty much as a 10 with his back to goal 🤣

None of them would get into this team
Probably not now they’re in their late 50s 🤣🤣 but then again?

After today i think its fair to say we need at least another cm.
I dont get the bird playing higher up thing either to be honest. If hes got to where he is now being a half decent holding midfielder why would we try change that? Its clearly not his skillset
I agree he has to play deeper instead of Smith or don’t play him he just couldn’t get on the ball yesterday and when he did he had his back to goal absolutely nuts and if Warne thinks he’s better further up the pitch then I am worried.

He worked hard but not much came off for him. He found himself in some positions he was only just getting used to in pre-season, but with far less time to react, including with his back to goal much more than we've seen him before.
It's early days and he's a good player - I'm not too concerned about anything from Max today, but it certainly wasn't one of his better games.
He’s much better deeper when he can get us on the ball not with his back to goal and I thought Smith was poor today but he’s not on his own.

I think he’s to similar to what we have Warne keeps mentioning players with pace and we keep getting linked with big and not very mobile strikers in their 30s. We need to get out this division and our best chance is keeping it on the floor and trying to play good football not trying to be the best long ball team in the league.

4 or 5 season's ago he would of been a great signing. Now he would be a typical Derby signing, picking a player up well passed his peak. Yes I know he's onlt 29 but he's not the player he was.
He’s a shadow of the player he was at Brentford he’s lost his way and they are taking the p*** offering him in any Bird deal.

I know we are in league one but if we are selling our best young player to Hull ffs I won’t be happy. Bird gives us control in midfield and can’t be replaced at our level. 😢

You poor, deranged fool! He'll clearly be announced as part of a triple signing with Chris Martin and a german centre half any day now. Someone on twitter saw them buying matching patio sets in B&Q.
I can forgive the German centre half but the other two should know Homebase has a sale on patio sets 🤣

I would hope our new scouting team has got better options than Rhodes and Sharp surely? If we are in for either of them I would be worried.

Yes, Warne got Rotherham promoted three times. However, he got relegated twice.
In fact Rotherham stayed up last season, 22/23, and he wasn’t the manager for 90% of the season.
To be fair I think he left them in 8th place in the Championship.

I reckon PW has fed the papers a rumour about Billy Sharp to keep us all chuntering while he’s away.
He’ll come back and sign someone far more exciting.
I hope your right we need some pace not a 37 year old

If one of them was going then Bird is in the frame with just one league goal and two assists in all the minutes played is a very poor return in the third division from central midfield but it’s all about the balance of the side. It’s up to the manager and his thoughts on what he wants
I would be gutted if we sold Bird and replaced him with someone who runs round a lot. He wasn’t the same player after injury but when he’s playing well we certainly play better football to feet not head tennis.

Speaking to a Notts fan and he said he didn’t think Rodriguez would be a starter for us and after watching him in the play off final I thought he looked bang average.

He was garbage against us please no.

Don't mind that team as long as there's some sort of plan not to leave the slowest 3 at the back combination known to mankind exposed!
I thought that 🤣

Please can we get Bird on and try and pass the ball on the floor please.

I see sense in appointing a proper head of recruitment (which we have) and appointing a manager suitable to bring success to this club. Warne is not that. He will not, I repeat will not, get this team promoted, no matter how long we give him. He’s at a big club with a small club mentality.
At least give him a chance to bring his own players in before you start sacking manager after manager.

That's a fair point, well made.
I've no problem with direct football, when Warne first came in, we scored a fantastic goal at home which comprised of 3 passes from defence to goal, end to end.
They were passes though, and what it seems to have evolved into is relentlessly front to back hitting the channels, cross field 60 yd balls, hitting a cross in regardless of if we have a man to get on the end of them or not, guessing balls I call them.
I'd just like to see a bit more nuance at this moment in time, especially given the squad make up isn't particularly suited to that style of football.
In the long term, PW can set up how he sees fit, and recruit to suit, but to not adjust his methods to suit the players currently at his disposal is limiting the success we can achieve.
TL/DR
I'm not wedded to any philosophy, just get the best out of the players you have now.
I agree when Warne 1st came we mixed things up not the possession we had under Rosenior but we looked more of a goal threat but yesterday was proper route 1 just launching long balls forward and hoping for the best. I hope that’s not the sign of things to come as it was pretty dross.

I still think we play some good football at times and the first half at peterborough was a good example, it was so one sided but in those periods we need to score and we are'nt and this is the problem.
We are toothless, once Didzy's form dropped off, and it was always going to where are the goals coming from ?
If you put two mobile pacey strong forwards in our side who can score the whole picture changes for me
We should've been at least 2-0 up in first half against Peterborough and then I believe the second half would've looked a lot different
Didzy had to score that easy header from NML cross in first half against Ipswich and Cashin's header should've stood and would've put us 2-1 up ..the differences are marginal not massive and 2 Centre Forwards would change a lot as I still don't see Didzy as a CF and Collins is very short on confidence
I'd be very tempted to play NML or Barks up front with what we have at the moment to give us something different.....pace !
Yes we are crying out for more pace in the team up top and in the centre of defence and hope Warne makes this a priority in the summer.

That’s a good shout, to get the best out of the two forwards we do have. Tell Collins to stay central, leave McGoldrick in a freer role, then use two of NML/Barkhuizen/Sibley/Dobbin/Springett out wide to get at the fullbacks and put crosses in. We might lose control in midfield but that’s been lacking a lot recently anyway.
Agree 100% and that will get the best out of Collins and Didzy 🐑🐑

I think it’s a contrasting styles of play thing more than anything. I think Warne wants us to be the kind of team where Collins does well (he said as much when he was appointed), but we don’t have the players to do it. The only time the midfield balance has looked right is with Bird, Hourihane and Knight pushing on, and with McGoldrick having to play (because he’s our best player), there’s no room for Collins. The spell where Collins did well, we were playing more of a regular 442 and while Collins personally did okay, the rest of the team didn’t function as well as in a 4231.
I think we need to try Bird and Knight as a two with Didzy behind Collins. It’s worth a try as we look so toothless at the moment with Didzy playing up top he drops deep and we have nobody in the box to get on a cross or pounce on a mistake.

I think for 5 at the back to work especially at home you need at least 1 quick CB out of the 3 and none of them can run. You also need very attacking WB’s and you can’t have 3 CM players who are to similar I just don’t think it’s going to work but hope I’m wrong.
