dajstrawb reacted to Carl Sagan in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
Paul Warne at his first presser:
"I want to press, I want to get the ball back high, I want to stop counter-attacks, keep attacks going and for that you have to press, you have to be athletic but fundamentally you have to be really good on the ball and I think the lads have been really conducive to what we’re trying to do."
Athletic and a high press, being good on the ball and keeping attacks going are exactly how I want us to play. Let's hope we'll start seeing this on Saturday. We saw this sometimes under Lampard. I remember the Marriott goal at Old Trafford was the inevitable result of incessant pressure - we were unstoppable. They couldn't live with the waves of attacks.
I don't want to see us with the ball around the opposition box only to try to funnel it back to Wildsmith to start again. I don't want to see freekicks in the opposition half get funnelled back to Wildsmith to start again. Ditto throw-ins. If we're to be promoted we have to start looking in the right direction.

It’s a massive mistake. The whole of the footballing community has effectively been ‘silenced’, prevented from showing their respect. What a spectacle we could have put on. Once the opportunity has passed it is too late. The moment will have gone.

I see Korey Smith, who a few weeks back was considered far too slow, and too side-to-side with his passing, would have been man of the match today if he had played.
Keeping the ball is an underestimated quality.

dajstrawb got a reaction from Ram@Lincoln in Lewis Dobbin
It’s his first taste of proper blokes first team football. Seem to recall it taking Malcolm Ebiowei a couple of games to feel himself round. You’ll just get glimpses. And aslong as we keep getting a few of those in the next few games, he’ll be sound. Patience

Bullying probably not the right word but I agree I thought he’d have kept his place tonight.

Love his enthusiasm! However it does appear strange to be so excited about moving from first team football to (seemingly) sitting on a bench

His job is to be in a position to receive the ball, retain it, turn if possible and move the ball quickly into and through midfield or if prefereable to the situation put the pass down the line. His role is to drop into midfield not bomb on and put crosses in. This tactic is different to last season when the full backs went on the overlap and put in crosses. This season our two wingers are just that, traditional wingers. Im not saying the fullbacks can never overlap if the play dictates it right to do so but its not their primary role.
