1of4 got a reaction from Ram-Alf in Head of State
Myself. Wouldn't mind living in the lap of luxury and travelling round the world for a few years.
I could even cope with being followed around by the gutter press and all the rumours involving me with various actresses.
While making a few quid in bribes. No no not bribes, I mean contributions from lobbyists, like all those senior politician, who are supposedly running the country.
Then after a few years of diligently serving my country. I'd get a seat on the board of some company in the city and get paid an obscene amount of money for a few hours work each year.
Yep certainly take that position if it was offered.

Never mind the cost of a pint. What about the cost of the Babychams I had to buy the young lady, in the hope of a pleasurable end to the night. Paid out for three bottles of the stuff, cost an arm and leg.
Found out some years later the wife would have been happy with a couple of halves of cider.

Apologies to @Sage but I'm going to answer the different question of who we would get, and I would expect a vote in the near future would give us President Boris. You can have good and bad presidents and good and bad monarchs, and I think most would agree we've had a good monarch these past 70 years. Obviously having a monarchy is idiotic in many ways, but because of the way social media and the 24 hour news media has massively amplified and promoted division here and elsewhere, I don't think this is the time to change it as anything other than monarchy would prove very divisive. Like, for instance, Johnson as President. As would Tony Blair. As for the suggestions here, I detest Macca's music and I used to know Susie pretty well, and she's quite political.

Of cause things will never be the same. Over her lifetime Queen Elizabeth had met more British prime ministers, US presidents, probably more heads of state from other countries around the world than anyone else alive or dead. So she brought with her that history and knowledge when she met a present head of state.
Listen to what many present and former world leaders have to say about her. They speak of her knowledge of world events, the connection she had with their country. They also speak of the real and genuine respect they had for her.
Our new King hasn't got his mother's history and knowledge. So things are bound to be different, and impact on how he is perceived by other countries and their leaders . How that difference will impact on us as a nation, we can only wait and see.
We can only hope that he serves the people of our country with the same dignity and dedication shown by his mother.

With cancellations due to the Queens funeral and the international break, whoever we play our next game against will now be our 5000 league game. Just out of curiosity does anyone know if any of the other teams that played that day have already reached the milestone of 5000 league games.

I could understand if next weekend's games were cancelled, as this would probably be nearer to the date of when the actual funeral would take place. Cancelling this weekend's games seem a little excessive.

As a life long socialist, people assume I wouldn't want a monarchy. But I've always appreciated what the the Queen did for our nation. She was a true figurehead that brought to the country that sense of nationalism and respect from other nations round the world. More than some of our politicians have managed to do
Would I want us to become a republic, with the ability to vote for a president every few years? No thank you. I'll just point across the pond and the disaster that trump presided over and the on going turmoil he is responsible for.
No I'll stick with what we've got as long as the privileged family that provides us with our head of state, can carry on with honour and dedication shown by our late Queen.

I assume the Queen was like most people who knew they were dying, wanted to do so in the comfort of their home. So the people of Scotland should take great pride, in that she considered Scotland her home.
