Good play with Bird central to it all. Barkhuizen did well to get the shot on target

    My guess is a 4-2-3-1;
                       Wildsmith
    Nyambe.  Nelson.  Cashin.  Forsyth
                   Fornah     Smith
         Sibley          Bird        Barkhuizen
                           Collins

How many people are saying "we're a shoe in for promotion"? Very few.
There are two main streams of displeasure.
    1. Style of play often resulting in an inability to pass the ball to a team mate
    2. League position being some way off challenging for automatic promotion. We're only 11 games in, but already 9 points off 2nd spot. Many would argue this isn't challenging for automatics.
One man is ultimately responsible for the first topic. He's the one who coaches the team and instructs them how to play on matchday. That criticism is therefore perfectly valid if those supporters do not enjoy the football on display.
When comparing a side to determine if they're overperforming or underperforming, budget vs league position is one of the main metrics. When looking at historic wage expenditure of clubs in this division, rumoured fees paid for players in the summer, etc.. it's very obvious that we have a 'top 3' budget. Since we're currently 9th in the table (7th on ppg), we're underperforming. People may disagree over the reason, but it still ultimately falls back on Warne.
    - Some say Warne isn't getting the most out of this squad due to tactics, player selection, etc... = Warne at fault
    - You say the players aren't good enough. Therefore, either of the following are the reason:
          - The recruitment team, which Warne helped to assemble, isn't identifying good enough players
          - Warne didn't choose the right players in the summer window
          - Warne couldn't convince the right players to join

Good point. I expect Warne will start with Barkhuizen and Sibley on the wings. Mendez-Laing probably won't even be in the squad, with Ward taking the spare spot on the bench. Something like this:
    Wildsmith
    Nyambe   Nelson   Cashin   Forsyth
    Fornah   Smith
    Barkhuizen   Bird   Sibley
    Collins
Subs: Vickers, Bradley, Wilson, Ward, Hourihane, Washington, Waghorn

Due to the weather and potential state of the pitch, I'm mentally preparing myself for the ball spending a lot of time in the air tomorrow. I couldn't think of many worse conditions to face Shrewsbury away, so it'll be a tough match.

There's a very obvious trend in every division between wage budget and league position. Just because Man Utd spend the most on wages doesn't mean they deserve to win the league, just like any side doesn't deserve to win a game just by turning up.
Given Man Utd are spending the most but still not winning anything, you identify the waste. Is the manager underperforming, or is the club wasting money on players? I see Maguire ans Sancho as two obvious examples of massive wages and little game time. Shaw, Martial, Reguilon are on a decent wedge and not playing much either.
Same will apply to us. We are currently underperforming against budget. Have we given our players more money than their ability deserves, do they need more time to settle in and adjust tonthe tactics, or is the manager not good enough?

That’s the second time today I’ve seen that phrase misquoted on this forum to sound more painful. 😀
It’s “bat an eyelid” not “batter an eyelid” unless you live in Glasgow and have run out of mars bars.

Do you want me to post screenshots for all of the spreadsheets I've used regarding the club's finances over the past 2 decades and explain everything line by line?
There's also the information we've been told regarding the business plan, turnover exceeding what had been budgeted for, League 1 restrictions, etc..
My knowledge of football finance also results a conservative calculated estimate for our turnover to be £16m, whilst a realistic estimate for this season is £18m. You can compare this turnover figure to our historic accounts to give yourself an idea of what a reasonable wages to turnover ratio is.
Our wage bill in 12/13 was £12.1m, which was our lowest since relegation from the PL (our turnover was also at its lowest, £15.4m.
Our wages were also at just £9.4m in 05/06 (turnover was £11.4m), the lowest it has been since 96/97.
In summary, the historical data for our club and others as well as basic information provided to us give me great confidence in a £10m figure being a lower end estimate for our wage bill.

In most cases, the most recent accounts for clubs in this division are a useful indication of current budget.
There is a lack of financial information available regarding Port Vale, Leyton Orient, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Wycombe, Northampton and Stevenage. However, it it very reasonable to make the assumption that these "small companies" also have smaller wage bills than ours.
Whilst there is limited data for Bristol Rovers and Oxford, the data which is available would suggest an absolute maximum wage bill of £9.2m and 7.7m respectively. It seems fairly obvious that Oxford have pushed the boat out a bit this summer, and will likely be around the £9-10m mark.
Reading were put under a £16m wage cap for last season in the Championship. With a significant drop in revenue and an owner seemingly unwilling to put more money in the club, anything higher than £8m seems unlikely.
Wigan had a £13m wage bill when promoted last time, but are reportedly under tighter control this time.
That brings us on to the rest, who have all disclosed their wage bill in the most recent accounts.
    Charlton - £10.6m
    Bolton - £10.2m
    Barnsley - £8.1m
    Portsmouth - £7.9m
    Blackpool - £7.7m
    Peterborough - £7m
    Fleetwood - £6.2m
    Lincoln - £6.2m
    Burton - £5.1m
    Shrewsbury - £4.4m
    Exeter - £4m
    Carlisle - £3.4m
My "top 3" budget claim is therefore very valid since a conservative estimate would put us at £10m.

I'm certain he'll start, but most likely on the wing. It's hard to see Warne breaking up the Fornah, Smith, Bird midfield at the moment.

TV companies want to have as many viewers as possible, so they don't just look at local support. Thanks to Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham are now known nationally and globally. For example, Derby currnetly have just shy of 400k Twitter followers, whilst Wrexham have exploded to over 550k.
