The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to Crewton in Louie Sibley
Where are these £15-20k/week for Sibley's contract coming from? There's no way that he was awarded a contract of that value aged 19 after 10 albeit impressive performances at the end of the 19/20 season. The likes of Salary Sport have him at £8K, which sounds far more plausible.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to Rich3478 in Transfer rumours
We’re bidding outbid on wages for a particular player, there is a difference. Warne and club obviously have an idea of what sibley is worth salary wise. Rotherham seemingly value him higher.
sibley isn’t a keep at all costs player is he, is a player we’ve moulded into a wing back but otherwise struggled to force his way into team regularly.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to jono in Wayne Rooney
Oh yes ! When Curtis wrapped Mitrovic in birthday paper with ribbons and put him in his pocket. !
I remember Rooney trapping a ball like frozen nitrogen, a drop of the shoulder neat pass. Class. And a free kick against I can’t remember who, with Waggy playing daft lad, running the distraction; then the a perfect bender. GOAL.
But really it was the “ole ole ole”…. us against the world. We lost ultimately but we were never even close to being broken. Wayne played a part in that. He’ll get a welcome from me when they come visiting that’s for sure.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to jono in How much do you think we have to spend on actual transfer fees?
Missing a piece of information here. It’s not “we” …..there is a man involved and it’s his debt / liability / obligation / guarantee that would be on the overdraft .. So does he want to run up that debt which would be in his lap when everything is added up. ?
Sort of like, I should take finance out on a new car, pending my scratch card win in 2 years time.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to CapeTownRams in Lionel Pickering
One thing that consistently irritates me is how little fans talk of Lionel Pickering. Folks often talk about the great Jim Smith years (really our last glorious period) but they would never have happened without Lionel.
We also forget that Pride Park was also Lionel’s dream and vision - and he paid a good chunk of his own money to make it happen. In fact one really has to wonder why it wasn’t and isn’t called the Lionel Pickering Stadium.
Lionel in many ways reminds me of David Clowes albeit the latter is a more business-headed person. Lionel was a lovely man- maybe a bit gullible when he listened to everyone throwing their own advice and opinion in his ear at the pub……but a real Rams man.
Crikey, if there was one person who deserves a statue at Pride Park then it’s him.
(I would also like David Clowes to have the Club build a museum at the ground).

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to Gerry Daly in Finance
Clough. He spent our money very wisely and very carefully. He was a great manager for us and it was such a shame how he was treated. If he had been allowed to continue and given the backing Mclaren was we would not be in the position we are now

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go. His level is league 1 in my opinion.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to GangwayD in Summer transfer suggestion thread
Appreciate you posting and acknowledging the probability it's an unrealisable source. If there is any shred of truth then I think he's a player certainly worth pursuing. Not really sure why, but I'd prefer him to Barnsley's Kane, although I am only making that assessment from the games we have played against them. Evans was a nuisance and caused us problems.
No doubt someone will have the stats, data and pie charts to tell me otherwise.
Really enjoying all the rumours, hearsay and suggestions on various players (except those overseas as I haven't seen any of them play so can't really form or give an opinion), but as you said I like the way we do our business.
Fond Regards
Gangway D from the Championship Terrace

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to Anag Ram in Sibley too good!
I would respectfully disagree. LWB is the only position in which Sibley has looked competent. When he plays further forward he is unable to receive the ball under pressure. His first touch isn’t good enough and he gets outmuscled.
When he plays at LWB, he receives the ball under little pressure and has the majority of the pitch in front of him. He then has the time to pick a pass or develop momentum in a forward run.
Whether or not he can do that in the Championship remains to be seen but if he stays, I wish him all the best.

The Scarlet Pimpernel reacted to Loughborough Ram in Sibley too good!
We'll have to agree to disagree.
I personally don't think he'll make a championship number 10 if he played 46 games in a row under Pep Guardiola.

The Scarlet Pimpernel got a reaction from Grimbeard in Premier League clubs to vote on scrapping VAR
Refs and linos generally do a pretty good job. If they were given a bit more respect by pundits VAR would never have been introduced. Its the cheating players that cause most of the penalty controversies, the offsides are usually very marginal. Hand ball is now farsical. It used to be quite simple, if the hand plays the ball its handball. If the ball plays the hand it isn't. Scrap VAR and pundits for goodness sake!
