We ended up heartbroken too. He was one of our worst ever signings. He cost us the Wembley play-off final against Leicester in 1994 when he shot wide of an open goal when it would have been far easier to score. Jim Smith, about six weeks into his rein, hauled him off after less than half an hour at Portsmouth and he never kicked a ball for us again.

After that he was virtually finished in England. He went on loan to West Ham and did nothing and then joined Forest and played just three games in their 1999 relegation season before making his way home to the USA. He was a huge disappointment.

Stop talking about John Harkes. He was utterly dreadful. I hate thinking about him. Let us not do such things again. ☹️

Regardless of Accy’s weakness I noticed a lot more pass and move, running off the ball and willingness in general. Over recent times we had an almost suicidal desire to stroke the ball around as if we had all the time in the world. Partnering that was the standing still waiting for the ball to arrive at our feet. There was a new urgency yesterday, reverse passes, slipping players in, weighted balls for players to run on to. I hope we can keep it it. It works !

I think that higher tempo was due in no small part to Knight setting the tone.

A bit like Craig Bryson used to do.

100% that’s the best midfield 3 in this division so don’t change it. I also thought with no Collins up top we had to play it to feet more today and let’s hope they continue with that as most teams can’t live with us when we do. ??

Spot on. We used the ball so much better and Knighty’s inclusion seemed to give hourihane the confidence to get further up the pitch with good effect.

The back five were excellent again.

Yes. Hope it boosts his confidence.

Not man of the match for me though. I really don’t get this automatically awarding MOM to the goal scorer. I know he scored the only goal that won the match but to award it just for scoring sort of undermines the equally important contribution of other players. Cashin was my man of the match.

Yes - the back four were virtually flawless.

Whatever they have been feeding fozzie needs to be marketed.  We'd make a fortune.

Marriott averaging 1 in 3 mostly at championship level since going back.  3 in 5 starts this season.  Personally, i'd be happy to have him as an option  for 18 months. Especially if we actually played to his strengths in a two rather than drifting him out wide constantly up top on his own.  Only issue would be if he's still getting 5 games then an injury.

I did feel rather relieved when he fluffed that chance when wildsmith gave him the ball earlier in the season.

why has he not made it?

    i think he’s probably a knob.

he will always be a bit of a legend for that goal against the dirties.
