I'm way too late on this band wagon to catch up properly. But here's one that's been pissing me right off recently... Polite drivers!

The example is, you're waiting patiently to turn right out of a junction. You've not been waiting long, you're in no rush. You can see a gap on the horizon, just after that red car, that's your chance. But then the red car starts to slow down. You're not sure what his intentions are or what's going on. You're getting a bit pensive, because you can see your window of opportunity narrowing as the car behind him starts to close the gap. Then eventually he comes to a stop and flashes you. You're not ready for that, so you're caught on the back foot and get your feet in a mess, and end up stalling. Then he's looking at you like a banker, while you're blocking traffic.

If he had just carried on his day as normal, without taking it upon himself to decide that the normal rules of the road are not appropriate for this situation, and they need him to give it a helping hand, everything would have gone quite smoothly.

Now, had it been a static queue of traffic, you leave a gap, that's the rule (and it pisses me off equally when people don't understand that rule, and beep at me for having to force my way out in front of them cos they didn't leave a gap!)

And it always seems to be the car at the end of a stream of traffic. The one where it wouldn't have made the slightest difference if he'd have carried on.

It also applies when you're a pedestrian. I tell my kids, 'we're going to cross after this blue car.' Then the sodding blue car slows down and lets us cross. Like he's doing me a ducking favour. He's a) thrown me off my stride, so now I'm half tipping my daughter out of her pushchair while I try to get off the curb, cos now I don't want to inconvenience him by taking too long about crossing, and b) not helping me to teach my kids how to cross the road.

So, in summary, don't be a polite driver. Just stick to the rules of the road, that way everyone is on the same page, and everything will work out fine for everyone.

Do what I do TT - refuse to accept the polite offer by being even politer - "No, No after you.  It's your right of way.  Thank you so much for stopping but I choose to wait. I'll go when it's the correct thing for me to do."  It irritates the life out of them

Scrambled on toast for breakfast yesterday, followed by sausage, egg and chips for tea, then two scotch eggs in the pub, plus scrambled on toast again this morning.

    Started to fancy an omelette...

I've rediscovered the joys of sausage, egg and chips in the last few months. Whenever Mrs Ilkley is away it's always on the menu plus bread and butter.  Probably good for my longevity that she's only away once a month on average.

People who commentate / manage their way through the match out loud. Yesterday was sat near some bloke and all game long it was 'that's it, out to Bogle, now forward, inside to Bryce, make your run lad, ooh he's lost it, get your shape back, get back Fozzie, don't let him get the cross in, challenge him, don't give away the corner, good tackle, now up to Mace, give it now then run the line, in you come Mounty, take your time lad' and so on for the whole bloomin' match. Kinda irritating - to say the least - even more so that the erratic outbursts you often get this was a constant drone of bilge.

I wanted to ask him why, whether it somehow made him feel that he understood the game and needed to make that point to everyone around him but I somehow guessed he wouldn't have taken the question positively.

If you sit near me Baalocks, may I apologise? I will try to do less commentary in future. But please can I carry on calling out the ref?

I don't think they  have the time or inclination to justify every thread deletion

Nothing contentious in the Skripal thread, so I checked with a Mod why it was pulled. He said they have a "zero tolerance policy" on any new threads that have the potential to cause political arguments.

It would be useful to be a bit clearer on that in the rules if each thread deletion is going to come with a warning

which is fair enough, though there don't appear to be that many pulled threads and we now know of the zero tolerance policy regarding 'potential political arguments', which in itself is an explanation

  5. David - while we're getting used to the no politics, religion, sex regime please could you either leave up a locked thread or give an explanation (that's not for discussion or challenge) as to why a thread has been deleted?

As an example, the thread about the Skripals seems to have disappeared since I was online this morning.  I presume it was thought to be political though when I left it, personally I don't think it was but maybe that changed. It would help explain the areas that are acceptable and those that are not.

What's the rest of the trick, Conehead? Does the dog out of shot to the right (except for a paw) also have a biscuit on their head? Or do they eat the biscuit that we can see? Or does he/she flick the biscuit up in the air and catch it?

  7. I've read all your posts loweman, as many of us have, with a huge amount of interest as these were the players and heroes of my formative years, never mind the success and enjoyment they brought me, and us as a club. It's great to see so many of them doing well and thank you for sharing it all with us.

I am though puzzled by one thing.  You've made a number of references to the players you've met not feeling valued by the club, and again with the report of your visit to the king. And yet, on the few times I've been behind the scenes at PP there are lots of references to the players of that era; we have Roy Mac on the board and in the bar; other ex players as ambassadors; Roger features regularly on Rams TV and at Moor Farm; explayers meet up at the Yard; we often have ex-players on the pitch making presentations; we have an ex players football and cricket team and, I thought, an ex players association; we have a stand named after Gordon Guthrie, statues of our greatest goalscorer and our greatest management team and an in house TV programme that regularly features ex players from a number of eras including the 70s. And we have an owner/Chairman of similar age to you and I who probably remembers these players with the same affection that we have for them. And who encourages connections with our past as well as our future. In short, from the outside, I think we do pretty well to maintain links with our past.

Given all that (and I may have missed examples or be wrong about others) what has the club done or not done to make the players from this era feel unwanted or unrecognised and is there anything that can be done to correct it? Clearly, from your contributions, some of them won't be interested, but some clearly are.
