JoetheRam got a reaction from hydraulic ram in Never Leave Early.
We have a saying in our house "remember Sheffield Wednesday" in reference to our 3-3 against them in the Bald Eagle days which is brought up any time anyone suggests we knock it on the head at 85 minutes.
Glad to see it still applies.

In most cases in life you get what you pay for.
We spend less as a percentage of GDP than the rest of the G7 and if adjusting for Purchasing Power we spend less than the EU14.
So it's not terrible, but it's not as good as it could be either and there's a million and one reasons for that but in the end it nearly always comes down to money.
Unfortunately, voters in this country tend to think public services should be world beating, but also don't want to pay to fund them.

JoetheRam got a reaction from TimRam in Finance thread 2022.
The way it's reported is deliberately confusing. No one knows what the average household that the £3.5k annual figure (assuming the cap stays the same for a year, which it won't) looks like.
State the increase in pence per KWH (electric in October 21 was about 18p on BG standard tariff, gas 3p) so the annual increase to 52p and 15p per KWH is three times and five times.
Then report that standing charges have doubled as well to take on the customers who were previously with the crap privatised firms that undercut themselves out of business.
Then report that we're gonna need more wind turbines, solar panels and hydro electric power and that these companies (and BP) can pay for it using the stacks of cash that they and their directors have creamed off the common man for the last 100 years else we're gonna come round their mansions and stamp on all their toys. The party is over.

JoetheRam reacted to Carl Sagan in Carabao cup third round draw
It's all the way to Liverpool midweek to watch Derby against the Liverpool U21s, so I'd expect there will be plenty of tickets to go around. It's not a bad draw because it should give DC a decent payday which will help towards the running expenses of the club, and because of the likely Liverpool team (proximity to the World Cup) we will stand a decent chance of making the next round.
I'm surprised by some of the comments in the thread. People forget that now is the best time in all of human history to be alive. Everywhere was a dump in the 1970s. Liverpool, Derby, London. They're all way better now and this will likely be a great evening out for everyone who goes (result-dependent of course).

Wasn't fun, after all.
Reserve price of 32k, offered price of 28.5k.
Waste of time.

Paris and LA.
Nowhere near as bad as people make out and actually quite good in places. Both dirty and unsafe in parts and the people are very much of their city and have little time for tourists. I think both just require a fair bit of scratching below the surface that doesn't really lend itself to the average holiday/city break timeframe.
Stoke is horribly scruffy and run down but most of the people are salt of the earth, traditional working class. Unfortunately I do often find such people quite unappealing so it's rated appropriately for me.

Though obvious, It's worth pointing out that what you experience as a general visitor/tourist will usually be very different to what you may have experienced as a visiting football supporter, certainly in the 1968-1990 period. Experiences stay with people, good and bad. I've had few experiences bad enough to dislike anywhere particularly, and certainly not in Liverpool, but I've come across nobheads everywhere. Good people though tend to outnumber bad people in most places.

The state of Washington, USA. It's widely mocked in movies and Americans in general as grey and rainy. But the thing is , they aren't comparing it to our standards of grey and rainy!
In actual fact it is stunning. Vast white sandy beaches without a sole to be seen. Unspoilt temperate rainforest. And a couple of hours inland and you're in Alpine style mountains with stunning views and great hikes. Breathtaking and so unexpected.

I’m hoping some grow up before the game comes and realise 50 years have passed and things change. Will be very embarrassing if chants of sign on and reference to Hillsborough come out because of people stuck in the past like you.

I think priority should be given to those fans that only come out for big games like Liverpool away, only fair really.

Just having a few days in the sun as the Prem's slightly hipster choice aren't they so not all that surprised. If I do my best to be objective it makes top third at best purely down to the strange capitalisation on F0ReST
An utterly bizarre list though.
Wolves is top 10 no quibble and Newcastle is good, but the rest are nowhere near. Barrow's looks like it's made on clip art and Luton's is a semi-decent 6th form design project.
Liverpool and Man Utd would struggle to make the top 50.
He's even got Wella hair gel rip off Bournemouth at 20.
Ours is top 5 easily.

I'll take that tbh.

Lies, damn lies and statistics.
Wasn’t one sided at all. They created some chances (which you’d expect), so did we. most of theirs were ‘half’ chances. Couple they should have scored, just as we should.
Those stats don’t really paint an accurate picture of the game (one of the many reasons I hate modern day fan obsession with stats. Football is an art not is science and over analysis is killing the enjoyment). Go by what you see, not what the stats suggest!
