    Matchday 20 – Saturday 4th December 1971 & the visit of title rivals Man City to the BBG
    City started the day in 2nd place, two points ahead of the Rams & so a win was essential to keep pace with both Manchester clubs;

    Goals there from Hinton, Webster & Durban securing a vital win. City’s goal not shown in the clip was a Franny Lee penalty – something that I gather was a fairly common occurrence in the early 70s

    Front page of the Ram reported that Derby were jetting off for a winter break in Greece shortly but without Brian Clough, who felt he needed a rest (and the players from him). We were also scheduled to have a friendly against Olympiakos, to be managed by Peter Taylor. Speaking of Taylor, his pre match column (also below) singing the praises of Sam Longson seems surprising in retrospect;

    Derby’s win saw them move back into second place, ahead of City & Leeds on goal average. Man Utd beat the ever hapless Forest to stay 5 points clear of the Rams;

    There's no resemblance between them at all and I am sure he's commentate on us before.
    In other news, if it wasn't for bad luck we'd have no luck. We hit the bar, they score!

    But isn't he in with Sam Rush? If you don't like the Rooney/Kirchner relationship then surely the Rush/Wasserman relationship should be just as worrying. In fact, it's partially to blame for putting us in this mess in the first place.

    Well 4 points from consecutive games against the Championship top 3, not a bad return. There are some outstanding players in our team, with new owners hopefully we can put together a very good squad for next season.
    For me , Morrison, CKR and Joz wouldn’t be missed. Fozzy unfortunately due to previous injuries can’t play the role Wayne is demanding and Williams needs to come in until Buchanan is fit.
    I fancy our chances in the next two if the lads keep their chins up.

    Fair result tonight. It’s just the position we’re in at the moment. Rooney took the handbrake off to open the game up and make it a 3 pointer for both teams and unfortunately for us every time they went forward it looked dangerous and we couldn’t get past the half way line. A draw albeit against a good side won’t do us any favours so kudos for going for it. The players gave everything and that’s all we can ask.

    Would it be that difficult for these youngsters to wait until their 17th birthday, then sign a contract for Derby, immediately followed by a transfer to the 'big' club and earn Derby a few million, instead of the paltry compensation they receive atm?
    I've said previously that Bellingham did this at Birmingham, the result, £25M for Blues and Bellingham still got his move to a big club, all for the sake of waiting a few months. The deal was agreed some time before his 17th birthday, surely our academy needs to try and sort this out. That's now 3 key youngsters lost in the last 3 years for a pittance, the difference between administration and solvency.
    I can understand the frustrations of those who feel that we've been short changed, even though we're a Cat 1 academy.

    He's a first year pro, so will be on a pro contract but can't remember how long the deal is for.
    He's certainly got a very good all round game. I like him a lot.

    I refuse to get too excited at this stage, but if things go well on Monday, I may just be buying each and every one of you a drink! ?

    I laid a bet last week... a 50p treble...
    1/  A 3-2 win over Bournemouth... DONE!
    2/  A 0-0 draw at Fulham... DONE!
    If we win 8-5 on Monday... with 10 men... and a hat-trick from Stearman, I think I'm due a return of £1,386,425.82!

    Wish me luck!  ?

    For anyone who wants a laugh. Not quite sure what their gripe is!
    Maybe next time a team kicks a ball out for your player down injured (we we're in a decent attacking position too) don't boot the ball out for a throw the other end of the pitch and not even let us take the throw without pressure!
    I'm glad that came back to bite them in the arse!

    Well we lost about £136m between 14/15 and 20/21 whereas Reading lost £57.8m between 17/18 and 20/21.
    We failed three periods by a total of £21.5m. They failed 1 period by £18.8m.
    I think I said yesterday that we should have had 21 points deducted. They should have had 12 points. Both have basically had that punishment halved.

    This thread has turned into an echo chamber of self-righteousness, whataboutery, entranchment, and opinion presented as fact but rooted in, well, opinion. Round and round it goes.

    Anyone else finding it really frustrating that MM started this fight with the EFL, runs away from it, puts us into admin then we have the book thrown at us and the EFL can carry on with their bullying ways and we’re left to look like the bad guys hated by everyone.
    He had two options for me keep fighting what he started whatever the cost, if the EFL are in the wrong let everybody see it.
    Or option two should’ve held his hands up, he’s not as smart as he thought he was, take the 9 point deduction and sell the club for whatever he could.
    Instead he’s royally shafted us it’s unforgivable, no matter how much he put in, his ego has ruined our club.

    What is all that Reading stuff? You have always seemed steadfastly against Whataboutery. Let’s just concentrate on The Rams shall we.
    To me, but I might be just old school, it does matter that we wanted to adopt an amortisation policy completely different to all other clubs in the league that we were competing against (in fact we were the only one applying a different policy amongst a membership group of 72). If we wanted to adopt such a policy we should have been more transparent and got the policy formally approved. Otherwise it is, to me at least, no more than wanting to seek some advantage.
    I am sorry I will not be swayed from my view, which is very long standing on this board, that Morris and Pearce were trying to gain some spending advantage by changing the policy. It gave them the ability to spend more, although they of course spent the extra monies lamentably and we actually gained no sporting advantage. Whilst I accept your key point, and have never argued differently, that ultimately the net depreciation figures for the two methods are identical what is different is one policy allows for accelerated spending and/or (if you like) puts off reporting judgment day. Well judgment day has come today and confirms our overspending and P&S breach in the years after what has previously been audited. An overspending, and breach, which would have happened whichever amortisation policy is applied.
    The EFL come out of this with little credit, but we, as a Club, have had this coming for a long time because of what I see as gaming. There is only one person to blame for that, and the fact that we are now heading back to the old 3rd Division next season. COYR!
