Except it cost Clowes company money last season. So I imagine it's the same this. Next season there will most probably less fan income and less broadcasting money. You have to speculate to accumulate. Clowes will want into the Championship asap. The more time it takes the more money it will cost Clowes Developments (are we tax-deductible?).

    Losses are deductible, yes.

Surely Brighton have left it too late to loan him out this Window. If he signs today he will sign knowing he has 4 months in their u23 team while he awaits a Jan loan.

Depends if it with us.  As everyone is in the same room, and contracts are being signed, it could be done all together.  For other clubs, absolutely.

Yes all good points but my post was just saying that money wouldnt be my main driving force at this point

Footballers are taught from an early age to compete to be the best.  Of their year of those trying out, 1% will make it.  A hundred good footballers is reduced to one.  For the premiership, it is one in ten of those left.

After all that competing, you are not likely to accept Lg1.  If I were him, and I say this as a fan of this club, I would be off like a shot.

I can't wait until Derbyshire Live becomes Derbyshire Dead.

I don't blame the writers, but the penny pinching barstewards who've stolen our local press.

And the fact that few buy local (or any papers) these days.  They have to make money online, which has no cover price - and per click advertising.  No room for proper investigations, but regurgitation of other sources, or "X", costs nothing more than the fixed cost of the writer.

I can’t see why he would sign a contract with us. I wouldn’t if I were him.
I guess the only reason is risk of career ending illness/injury meaning he wouldn’t get a move next summer but that’s highly unlikely at his age

And he could take out an insurance policy against that.

Waghorn is currently technically our best forward.

Yep, I just said that. Lord help us.

Looked at a different way, he is a Championship (or above) player for many years and has taken a step down.

The McGoldrick factor is in play, as they have experience and they are objectively better players.  Waghorn might struggle in Championship, but take a step down and suddenly he appears to have improved.

I suspect had we been in Championship last year, McGoldrick would have been ordinary.

No he is not blameless at all. I blame him totally for rescuing us from oblivion. I blame him for that feeling of walking up the steps seeing the pitch for the first match last season. I blame him for quietly trying to restore the dignity and integrity back to our club. I blame him for trying to run our club responsibly.
I think this thread and its title are disrespectful and ungrateful.

Absolutely.  There were people saying "please someone save our club".  The problem is, for all bar the properly super rich (who can do it as one big ego trip) for most owning something like this is a commercial enterprise.  I genuinely saw no one willing to "save the club", after all - why would they?  (would you, even if you had the money save Bury?)  We might all want to for DCFC, but I doubt there are many on this forum who can afford to.

Clowes was probably the only person in the whole world to have a) the enthusiasm and b) the money.  He stepped up to the plate.  The man can do no wrong in my book.

Is the plan that the next one in line succeeds the one who's just been sacked until they're all used up?

Otherwise I'm worried that if we have to sack them all at once we'll have no other ex-players-now-doing-something-in-management-and/or-coaching left to turn to. Except Igor. (Add him to the list?)

He's loving life - and being best buddies Narendra Modi. He's in India long term; no takeaway there.

When we sign players, I normally have a look at what the fans at their previous clubs are saying about them, maybe skim over their pages on whoscored, transfermarkt etc to get a feel for what they might be like.

Luton fans said Bradley's legs had gone.

Peterborough fans said Ward struggles to beat the first man with his crosses, and isn't comfortable at wingback.

Elder seems to have never played wingback before in his career.

Nelson was part of the (I think) worst defence (by goals conceded) in the Championship last season.

And that's just from 5 minutes googling.  You do have to wonder who's scouting these players.

Or more to the point: who we'd have otherwise.

Serious question,  was thinking whilst at the game yesterday relative to the level we are playing at and the standard of football we are playing I think this team is a contender for our worst ever side.

I only started watching in 2008 as I was 9 then and that's when I got into Derby, but this is definitely the worst team since I've been watching,  heard we were bad in the 1980s but I doubt we were ever this bad.  2007 Prem side would beat this team imo and wouldn't struggle vs average League 1 teams.

What do people think who have been watching for decades? Got to be up there at the moment imo.

    2007 team were unlucky.

Billy Davies, in my opinion, was a good manager, took a team that should have been relegation favourites to Premier League.  No investment once there meant - his 'friend', who Billy Davies would never not name drop, Alex Ferguson, would have been relegated with.  If we had lost the play off he'd have lasted a few years.

If we got rid of Warne, Billy would be my number one choice.  Should never have been sacked for what he achieved.

warne has told us how he speaks to potential recruits when they tour the club. It’s no wonder that we struggle to recruit good players - or that we lose them

beginning to think the way out of this league is to revert to the lampard /rooney model. At least they (and even LR) had pulling power. Who is the next Vincent Kompany

It may well be the model, but I don't think we are going to deploy it.

    Think the end is nigh.

Warne’s going to need a serious turn around to survive medium to long term. Even if our results even out, are people going to accept a 12th place finish with the inevitable poor performances that such a finish entails?

There’s discussions to be had on recruitment, interview answers etc which we’ve started already. But if the fans feel as negative as they do now that isn’t going to change with a win against Fleetwood. Especially when Bolton and Peterborough are waiting around the corner.

Think from Warne’s demeanour he knows it too. However, he has the cushion of compensation to make his tears go away.

Three wins and they do.  Two losses and one win they will not.

Is Warne living on borrowed time?...Yes!

There's an old saying in football...you're only as good as your last game, I went to the Wigan game but followed the other 2 home games on here, There's not too many posters I disagree with as most see it how it is, No sugar coating, No blinkers on just tell it how it is.

There's posters who have been positive over the summer and still as positive after the Blackpool game, But last night I get a feeling that PW is losing a lot of support from here, Is this a sign that DCFC fans in general are feeling the same...boooooing at home aint good, There's been those that have been vocal and negative for some time with PWs style of play...and to sum these posters up...they look to be right.

David Clowes the saviour of DCFC a year ago had better be aware...which I think he will be as he's a fan so he'll be know the feeling at this moment in time, He may have locked himself into a 4 year financial capsule where a sacking will cost, Being a Fan and a business man are 2 ends of the same road, Emotions will take you one way where finances take you another...unless PW walks if results do not improve DC has a decision to make...does he stick or twist 🤷‍♂️

I'd put myself in that bracket.  I was forgiving before but last night was shocking.

Waghorn did look good; everyone else very much sub par.

As I say, the devil will be in the detail. I’ve never seen it in any of my contracts  but accept it exists. As you say though, it’s probably very rarely enforced. In the world of football managers, I would imagine it’s either be a case of the club in question happy to see him go or, if he’s been poached, then any such costs are incorporated into the fee agreed between the clubs (not the manager). Hence why I said specifically.

I said rarely enforced except in highly paid jobs.  I suspect his is a highly paid job, so very commonly enforced.  CEOs have this issue commonly, for instance.

What if as a result of him being sacked after one game no one wants him?  That is the core risk to this club.

  15. 3 minutes ago, Tamworthram said:

The devil is obviously in the detail of the contract but I very much doubt he’d have to specifically compensate the club for finding a replacement if he chose to walk away.

My contract at work says that.  I have to give one years notice and if i want to walk away prior to end of notice need to pay for the difference and costs (that invariably includes recruitment).  Reality is, when I have resigned in the past I get put on gardening leave for six months and nothing more, but they can impose it if they so choose.

Cost of replacement is a common employment contract feature.  It is very rarely actually enforced except for quite highly paid jobs (as not worth the hassle of Court).

How many people have called for him to be sacked? 3? 4?

Plenty more are concerned by what they seen and heard, but have been told we aren't allowed to point out any issues.

Loads have tacitly.  Just because they prefix "I'm not saying he should be sacked, but....  That is exactly what they are saying.

The issues are clear.  But they take time.  We cannot (afford to) sack managers because something doesn't work or it never ends. No one is against constructive criticism.  The "he doesn't know what he is doing" vibe is madness; we have played one real match and a glorified friendly.

  17. 4 hours ago, Raich Carter said:

Not a Manager. Very different scenario, very different contract.

A contract is a contract.  A boat, a footballer, a dog walker, a manager, a tin of beans, a house.  A contract is a contract.

If we have said he comes for four years and he wants to walk away, he needs  to compensate for the difference (including finding replacements etc).  We would need to do the same for him.

Think it’s a myth that managers get paid for their remaining contracts. They’re paid off inevitably but normally it’s a settlement.

They can't get work whilst within the period term.  We would be liable to pay them in full, but they probably would want to work elsewhere and that is where the wriggle room is.

Gareth Bale, whilst at Real Madrid, said: I want to stay in Madrid and you have said you will be me this.  Pay me.  Nothing they could do.

If Warne decides you know what, this managerial lark is not for me I am going to do nothing and let them pay me.  Pay him we would.

I don't think he is that short term in his thinking.  I think if Warne does not rectify, and put plans in to rectify, issues then there might be a conversation to be had next year (certainly after Christmas); at the moment we have lost one game (and a cup game).  We get a win against Burton the cycle revolves and "we have this in the bag" comments will start appearing.

It isn't going to be as good as we hope or as bad as we fear.
