I would suggest that Yevgeny Prigozhin is very careful what he eats and maybe open his door with lead gloves.

    Yes.

He is marching his troops Moscow bound and then, despite travelling hundreds of miles capitulates to a Russian (Proxy) ally in Belarus.

I would suggest he was told "you retreat and go to Belarus, or we drop a tactical nuclear device on you and your men in five minutes'.  He, and his men, at least have a small chance of survival this way.

I think brands should be non political.  I think there is nothing to be gained.  But, then, many brands believe there is.

Tv money in tier 3 is truly pathetic . I have read £750k last year , up to £850k this coming season. Even though we get gates of 27,000 - many of us get very cheap season tickets . I wouldn’t expect David Clowes to make up a shortfall.

    But player costs are low.

A league up, our TV revenue will jump several fold but player costs more so.

The one thing going for us last year was so many players contracts were up when we were relegated.  I remember the issue with Portsmouth was when they went down they had loads of players on expensive multi year deals they could not reasonably pay.

In an ideal world football grounds should retain their historic names but I do accept that for financial reasons PP might need to be renamed at some point. In my opinion it shouldn’t be a showpiece for any kind of “vogue issue”. The same could be said of the shirt sponsor. I was very comfortable with NSPCC as that is national charity that even the most extreme person would probably find it difficult to take issue with.

    I agree with this.

Don't like the idea of sponsorship of name as Pizza Hut Arena, or The Gamble Now Ground. If we are going to do it, I'd rather be creative with it like above.  That is all.  I didn't mind - Sports Direct @ St James Park - ignore the first part, and they get the advertising.

I bought my first club top this season in twenty years as I don't want to be a walking advert(in my memory.

Nah. Stop trying to fool us. You were joking. 😀

    A little 🙂

I do think that it would work, though.

Practically no effect on the name, but some corporate gets to tag a vogue issue into a sponsorship deal.

How about we rename the stadium Prime Park.

A corporate could use showcase it's gay rights credentials.  Barclays @ Pride Park (all in rainbow letters).

This is not written jokingly or mockingly: I do think there is something there, but not finished article.

Any news on main sponsors for next season  although I assume nothing will be agreed until season end? Will stadium naming rights be agreed as surely that will bring in some income, perhaps structured in such a way that any promotion would trigger an additional payment?

Doubt we will see stadium naming sponsor.

Difficult with Stadium's that have names associated with them to obtain any value.  The value is in new venues that have no name - you can let the sponsorship lapse and people still think of the original name.

I don't think I ever called it the IPro.  Nor would I The Ron Brooks Toyota Arena.

The cost of doing it would be high, and the value low.  i doubt it'll happen.

If we don't accept a bid then he's got no choice really.

I suspect him staying or going depends on what Warne wants to do in the transfer market. If he's got a couple of strikers lined up that require a chunky fee for example, and selling Knight gets them in then we'll cash in.

I think it is what both of them want.

If he wants to leave, we would be mad to turn down c£2m for him in demotivated phase.  That could bring in a good striker, or pay higher wages to one who is available.

    Is that a requirement?

We've won points and lost points after Cup games. We've played well and we've played abysmally after resting players for Cup games.

Well, no, but was more a turn of phrase to express that it is my view we should not overly exert ourselves in it.  Whilst I think a lean squad is a good idea, it falls down in competitions like this.  Injury prevention is the key, and whilst I would be all up for it on finals day before that it is a luxury we cannot really afford.

To be fair, this is my view in all cup competitions.

The average engagement is very impressive, also.  I get that some must spend disproportionate amounts of time, but you would think they would be cancelled out by people who use to see a score here and there.

I have always estimated the full fan base to be around 100,000-150,000 seeing many who live in the city, like anywhere, don't like football (and those of us who live elsewhere are, obviously, unusual).  1/3rd to a  1/5th of fan base seems remarkable.  Or the fan base must be much larger than one would expect.

We have over 30,000 people visit this forum per month, guests can't vote. If the claim was true, those numbers would plummet when the window closes, they don't, they remain consistent through the season.

That is a useful stat.  Is that unique people or hits - i.e. some might visit multiple times a month.

If the former, that is very impressive.

This sounds brilliant and on a free. Hopefully this means there’s still money in the pot for a striker.
    COYR

Or as they say in Ausi land “She’ll be right mate”

I think the other thing to note is we are picking up frees on three year deals.  By going for good free transfers we can offer a decent contract length, so offering stability but without ruinous basically wasted costs of transfer fees.  I doubt we are going to pay for any players, as there are enough players coming to the end of their contracts that serve our needs.

Wow, Warne is building something I reckon. High calibre league 1 winners or promoted players so far. Looks like he knows how to get out of this league😂

Not at all.  I have it on good authority, via this forum, that he has no pull with players.  They don't want to play for him - simple as.  Any players he signs will clearly be desperate following being released.

  14. Someone has had some fun on Wikipedia.

On 8 August 2019, Elder joined Championship side Hull City for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year contract. The move reunited him with Grant McCann, his manager at Peterborough United.[29] Elder made his debut on 14 September 2019, in a 2–2 draw at home to Wigan Athletic.[30] He scored his first goal for Hull on 5 April 2021 in a 3–0 win against Northampton Town.[31] On 18 May 2022, Hull City exercised an option for an additional year on his contract.[32] On 6 May 2023, it was announced that Elder would leave Hull at the end of his contract that summer to join the biggest club in the world, Derby County.[33]

I’d have gone for Fankaty Dabo, based on his experience at a higher level.

Thank you.  That does seem a reasonable answer, but there appears criticism of him on the other thread.

What would be a shame is too much hindsight - either might be/might have been good signings, but we do not know yet.  Unless we are signing duds from League Two, or going for an "out there" signing, going for players in our sphere seems hard to criticise at this stage.

  16. Just now, Millenniumram said:

True, but to be fair Wildsmith hadn’t played that much for Wednesday. This guy has made like 200 appearances for Peterborough, so you’d expect their fans to have seen what he’s capable of.

I don’t necessarily think he will fail, no one knows that but it’s not a signing I would have made. That’s my opinion. I feel like there should be players out there with a higher ceiling as you say, who would be willing to join us.

    Who would you sign, then?

  17. 6 minutes ago, Kernow said:

To be fair nearly every player at this level will have negative comments. Nobody at Wednesday was fussed about leaving Wildsmith, who never established himself there and he was one of our best players last season.

I think there’s a small pool of players within our reach, who are also good enough to compete at the top of L1, in positions like RWB.

Like you’ve said before, a lot of comments about what he is or isn’t good at is opinion. The facts are we’ve taken a key player from a promotion rival who offered him a 3-year-deal at the same time as they put half of their squad up for sale, including the league’s top scorer.

I think he’s a good signing for where we are at the moment. 3 years might be a bit long as I very much hope we progress as a club beyond his ceiling in that time.

I agree on contract length, but that might have been necessary to secure the signature - especially if everyone else is offering him this (which, unusually, Posh have confirmed they did).

A free transfer is a boon - and if you think about it; we might reasonably expect to pay the same (1* transfer fee and two years wages or 3 years on free transfer).  Just get more bang for buck this way.

It’s just a question of fitting in a role and much depends on what is going on around you.

Bradley Johnson came here off the back of his best goal scoring season and never reached the same heights.

Jamie Ward came here on a free as he couldn’t get in Sheffield United’s side and went on to be one of the best wide forwards in the Championship.

David McGoldrick.  Had several poor seasons and many thought him a dud.  Then he knocks it out the park.

We have to give the management and recruitment team the benefit of the doubt that they know the strategy and who they want.

We are not going to be getting Messi, so we have to support the players signed.  Some will be a disappointment, others inspired.

You really think 20 players is enough?

Or do you think our record breakingly bad U21 side is full of gems?

I think a massive team is expensive.  I  think we have a budget.  I think by spending our money on who is going to play rather than sitting on the bench is a good idea.  I think building a solid match team is the way to go, and if required dip into the U21.

I get the impression with you that you think we are flushed for cash.  We are not.

spoke really well the only thing I don’t really like is this idea of character every team has good characters and bad characters If we had a bad character who scored the goals to get us out the league so be it tbh. Our current set of players might be nice but are they tough enough that’s the difference

That is an assumption.  I think he would agree with you, but he wants to build a team.

Generally, you want to build togetherness.  If he sees something special, I suspect he'd go with it - but he has a way of working that David Clowes buys into.  That is how it is going to be - his way or the highway.  If you do not like Warne's training regime, or you are Mario Balitelli-esque then you will not fit in (or you need to be so good he is willing to overlook the otherside).  Fergie did this with Cantona.

I suspect Warne would argue that when you have a side of twenty you absolutely cannot afford to have those with bad charactoristics as it affects everyone more profoundly than a squad of forty.

I don’t think Warne, Thomas and the recruitment team can really win at the moment.

If we get the players in quickly and then when some don’t work out, we’ll be told the club didn’t do their homework.

If we leave it late and then when some don’t work out, we’ll be told the club weren’t proactive enough or made many panic buys.

If we sign proven players and then when some don’t work out, we’ll be told the club should have unearthed some gems.

If we sign unproven players and then when some don’t work out, we’ll be told the club should have shown more ambition and signed players with pedigree.

Let’s show some patience and give Warne some time to actually realise his plans and deal with the task at hand.

Are we still a draw? Of course we are. Our very own manager left a stable club in a higher division because of our standing and potential.

The power and allure of hindsight.

Those who proudly proclaim we are behind the mark and not doing enough will gladly disappear into a sea of cheers should things work out forgetting their hitherto pessimism; should we falter - proof positive their assessment was spot on.
