Too soon to be looking at the table?

I swear Warne said we were targetting 2 points a game at home. Logically, you'd therefore expect us to be targetting at least 1 point a game away.

Having spoken to one player (and without them giving too much away), it seems the more realistic expectation would be in the 55-60 range.

Who is this negative ninny you speak of? He should be flogged for a lack of faith in the New Derby project. Blasphemer!

5 games in is (roughly) a ninth of the season and we’ve (roughly) got a fifth of the way to 50 points - aka Championship safety

Even if we drop off, aren’t as good in the next 5 games, we’ve made a big step towards safety already.

Get to 50 points and then see where we are in the table.

Don't worry about the table at the moment - just get to 50 points as soon as possible and then review the situation. There will be times during the season why we lose 3 or 4 on the trot but when that happens there is no need for panic and calling for Manager to be sacked. After all that is the Stoke way !!!

I think our main issue might be injuries.

On evidence of the last two games our 'first 11' is quite likely pretty good in the division. Hard to say exactly how good but quite a bit better than relegation and probably mid table minimum.

However I think there is a cliff in quality in places of the squad. There is both a few key players who if were injured for a long time our prospects would be drastically worse and the same is true of some squad players if they had to play for a substantial number of games.

The table shows which teams have "hit the ground running" and is indicative of current form. It is not indicative of where clubs will be come May. Every club will have good and bad runs at some point in the season.

Thus far we've lost both away games and they were against the current 3rd and 5th teams. Next 2 away are against the current 6th and 2nd. We also have two winnable home games coming up against Norwich and QPR. Win both home games and maybe get a point or two in the away games and we will have had a very good start, especially considering we'll have played 4 of the top 6 away. Even losing the 2 away games could see us on 15 points from 9 games. Not a bad start at all, provided we get the points, that is.

As Ian Dury sang, reasons to be cheerful...

...but not to be OTT.
