Pre season

Please keep us non-watchers posted on how we're playing as a team. Far more important than the final score.

Summary of the half so far, Vickers has looked shaky in general, half committing to coming out for crosses or to close down through balls and ending up in no man’s land. Defensively we don’t look fully at it, Cashin not himself but could be having to play rcb is throwing him a little 🤷🏻‍♂️. Elder and Wilson pushing high up the pitch to support attacks.

Midfield looks interesting, Ozoh and Adams typically playing as 2 “sitters” with Goudmijn further forward, every now and then Adams has broke forward, Ozoh looks physical and athletic and has covered ground well to snuff out a couple of counters.

Front 3 have looked quite decent, good pace and movement, but still guilty of overplaying or picking the wrong option. We’re still specialist into the pullback to no one in the box and Jackson/NmL both seem keen to lay a goal on for Yates (who’s link up play is better than I’d expected). Jackson’s pace and directness an asset, needs to work on his decision making.

Not brilliant but better than previous games, I can see more of the intent from the lads, signs of some combos building but not quite clicking, Warne and Barker allegedly yelling loads on the touchline when we’re out of position encouraging the press.

That’s my take anyhoo.

id drop him for foz. and i dont rate him.

cashin so slow. always caught out of position. we’ll get ripped to shreds this season down the left. i think hes bery overated

A bit worried about Cash to be honest. It’s early days of course but as soon as i saw him post close season he looked as if he’d muscled up a bit and i think it’s affecting his mobility.

Whatever it is he doesn’t look quite on it.

Mind u, why does PW want to tinker with a partnership (Cash/Nelson) that made us look rock solid last season !!?

As stated earlier Nelson is ill and not available tonight.

I can’t work out if Kayden Jackson is an excellent footballer who is terribly unlucky OR a poor footballer who is somewhat lucky.

The games I’ve seen had he’s had enough chances and opportunities to have 10 goals and 10 assists - I guess this has been largely the story of his career.

Nice tidy patterns of play, as expected we will look to go wide but we have at least managed to string some passages together and open up Barnsley, created enough chances to score 4. Elder, Wilson, Adams, Ozoh and NML all looking decent, Kenzo looking to have some class. Side note, Vickers gives me the same squeaky bum moments I thought were exclusive to Steve 'glass eye' Sutton.

Looks like Vickers has already been elected as our official scapegoat for the season.

I’m not for scapegoating anyone, and think he’s a solid option in the squad as backup. However tonight his decision making has seemed hesitant when coming for crosses or to meet a player chasing a through ball which is mildly concerning, could be a confidence thing.
Don’t think he’s completely to blame for the goal as it took a slight deflection off Cash’s heel and I feel it should have been dealt with before Hourihane could shoot.

Nelson is ill so he is trying an alternative

The Good: Kenzo, Ozoh and Yates all looking pretty sharp. Like what I've seen from them. Ozoh is a bulldozer and Kenzo makes things happen. He's going to be a great player for us. Elder had a shaky start but has grown into the game. NML and Jackson, too. Formation I think is a good one.

The Bad: Cashin and Bradley. Yikes. No surprises really from the latter but the former? What is going on with him? Sloppy. The quality of the final ball, and the passing in general, is still pretty poor. We're giving away way too many fouls again, too. Vickers? I think everyone else has summed it up.

Nelson is ill so unavailable tonight, seems unfair to call that “tinkering”

He has been poor in pre season, so people are saying he has been poor. That’s it really. He won’t be our number 1 anyway.
